I have played Endless Ocean, I owned it but traded it in because I knew I was getting AH. This game is similar, but in many ways really different. AH is obviously WAY better looking, but the addition of a bit of back story, and the whole searching for specific fish and stuff really makes it the better game. (imo)

It's a fairly small fish, look in the first area for a fish with little symbols coming out of it's mouth. You also can hear it's song get louder the closer you are to it.

yes I know that, I mean its what they look like in the manual. I only found one in front of the base. otherwise I've spent much time going all over the fucking place looking for a goddamn fish that sings, with no luck
A fair few support it now. Motorstorm Pacific Rift does and a couple of other titles. Hit the PS button and browse to you music tab. If you can play any of the music saved on your PS3 then custom ST is possible in the game.
I've noticed it's implemented differently in every game. Some allow you to play them from the XMB, some require you to use an in game menu system. I'm pretty sure Burnout Paradise, Superstardust HD and Wipeout HD wouldn't let me play music from the XMB, but they had menu systems set up in game to play music on the hard drive.

Ah, I'll have to get more into it. I'm probably just where you are now. (I've just found the first myself)
I'll let ya know when I find another.:^:
wouldn't be so bad if it'd still let me explore new areas without finding the god damned fish but I'm guessing I need the second fish to get the extra depth upgrade
I am officially addicted to finding these fish, it's a weird compulsion, and I love it.
I have found a total of 5 singers now I think. (I can carry 2 batteries now instead of one, and have the camera for my sub...so photography has been added, and it now has that Hakuna Matata feel added onto the already great game.)
After searching for a bit, and then suddenly finding one, you really feel that YES sensation.:^:
The sea life I've found are beautiful, and some of the little additions are pretty damn cool.
Anyhow, I had to force myself to stop playing...I'm liking it that much.:P
*edit* Also, don't think this is just your run of the mill, "oh look, I found another fish right there in the open totally obvious" you have to LOOK under every seaweed to find every breed of sea life. It's a real fish hunt, there are some tiny fish, and even sea slugs for shit's sake that you can barely see.
I think I like this game a bit better than Hakuna Matata.
Does this game have a laptop you can access with e-mail for receiving missions and so forth? I really like that aspect of Hakuna Matata and Endless Ocean, and I'd love to see it in Aquanaut's.

think you get the camera regardless of singing fish. unless you can get upgrades like filter effects or some ANTI ALIASING goddamn
I signed up to search for ruins and wrecks and shit, not little aquatic divas
You haven't even gotten anywhere yet man...just wait. This game is the very definition of gorgeous graphics and atmosphere. I've made it pretty far now, and I gotta say, I love this game. More than Hakuna Matata for sure. (and I loved that) This game takes a little bit to get into, but it's SO worth having. (I can't imagine not having this game in my library...I would have missed out on the experience)
They are different games from each other, but so great in their own ways. HM has the realistic camera attachments and stuff, but AH has SO much more to find, trophy support, and if you TURN OFF THE BGM and turn up the volume...the audio is stellar.

No, no laptop, it's more of a deep sea diving expedition type deal. You explore in a robot mini-sub of sorts, and are contacted from the main base above directly. It's not so much a "go do this job" thing, as it is an "explore and uncover the mysteries of the deep" type of experience. Your mini-sub gets upgraded, not your camera.
I don't expect the finding stupid fish aspect to get any better. you enjoyed the first two at least whereas I LOATHED them. dem fucking fish man. dem fucking fish. besides the gay singing faggot fish, the game is fun

You may not like the game then, the fish get easier to find, but they get harder "Simon says" wise...that's for sure. Fortunately you can come back to a fish if you screw up too much and it leaves you.
I dunno, the singing fish thing adds to the game for me, I'm sure it will for others as well. (to each their own)
I do agree that if the singing fish aspect wasn't there, it's still worth the price of admission...easily.
I'm enjoying the shit out of this game.:)
probably safer to buy it from an actual hong kong online store. was only 61 dollars canadian (plus all the other shit for importing/shipping etc). also I have this 5 dollar gift card I got with aquanauts from play-asia and I havent used it yet because nothing I want is in. bah
Can someone buy either Afrika or this game in Japan, but get the Chinese version with the English in it? I have a friend who is teaching english in japan, and I figured if he could get them locally and send to me it would probably be cheaper than an import site.

That's a good question, and I really wish I had an answer for you. I guess all you can do is tell him to check around for you, never know. It says clearly what version it is.
I'm gonna blame everyone in this thread for potentially buying Aquanaut's Holiday and making it sold out on playasia.com. The situation finally occurred where I simultaneously have extra cash and there's literally nothing out in America on consoles that I want to play but haven't, and can move on to other countries, and it's sold out.

It's cool though, just bought Afrika.
There was always YesAsia or eBay. :P
I bought Hakuna Matata on eBay for 44 dollars, and the seller is only a state over! It should arrive today or tomorrow. Most of the eBay sellers for Aquanaut's are in Hong Kong, though, but they're all pretty much power sellers with nearly perfect ratings.

at least it tells you when it restocks, unlike other ones that are "you know, whenever"
Is that a trust-worthy site? Also, the one you linked to was the Japanese version. The Chinese/English one is currently in stock and can ship the same day. I might have to bookmark this if it turns out to be a good site.
From your posts, you just seem frustrated with the game is all.
If you still need to find the first fish, seriously, turn off the background music in the options, and listen for a high-pitched musical note as you travel around, (The very first area) the closer you are, the louder it gets.
I assume you know that, but thought I'd say just in case. (also, just to be clear, anything I've said hasn't been meant to be offensive, just trying to help) :^:

Damn, this and Afrika are the only 2 things Ive seen so far that sell me on the PS3, but they're selling it HARDCORE.
If only a platform just commited to "interact with real life animals games", I'd be ALL over it.

I've just been zooming around slamming fresh batteries into all the sonar buoys.:P

I'm doing pretty good though, I've only screwed up a couple times so far, but I'll admit that I hope they don't get too much harder.:x

speaking of which, I need to order demon's soul
edit: apparently yesasia has a limited time up to 80% off a shitload of stuff sale going on right now, till the 30th. aquanauts is 5 bucks off.
man so much cool stuff on special. the biohazard 5 special PS3 is 50% off
This game has made me say "aw cool" under my breath many times.
If none, man, I can help you.
I'm finding them all over the place now...serious.
Yeah yeah yeah, I know...but if you haven't even found one fish...you aren't going to move ahead.
Maybe sell the game to someone else?
