Tough case for a cell phone

For safety reasons, I'd like to be able to take my cell with me when I go out on long bike rides. I don't have any pockets in my bike clothing, typically, but I have a little pouch below my seat for repair supplies that has some room in it. My cell phone would fit, but it's tight, and I'm afraid both of it getting crushed and wet.
What I need is a tough, waterproof box to put my cell phone in, one that is as small as possible. I can't really google around for this because I'm not sure what to call it. It doesn't need to be an honest to god cell phone case, because I'm not making any calls. I just need it kept safe and available in case of emergency.

I use one from Timbuk2, and it protects it well. I've taken mine biking too, just on paved trails, though. It's actually a soft case, with nylon on the outside:

I usually stick mine in my camelbak in a plastic bag, stuffed into my long shirt. What kind of riding do you do? I don't know if I would feel ok about attaching my phone to my bicycle at any point, since it's bound to take a beating from road/trail vibration, and that kind of constant shock is generally not typically good for phones. So, I would say get some kind of hydration pak with pockets. Pelican makes excellent little hard waterproof cases of nearly any size, so I'd check there. Alternatively, you can always wrap it in a cloth (or something to absorb shock) and stuff it in an empty water bottle. Just make sure the cage is TIGHT.

Depending on how expensive your phone is, the $1/month insurance may be your best option in the long run.

Back in the day, bucko, we just had an A and a B button... and we liked it.
