Idiotic Audacity question [SOLVED]

I'm gonna sound like such a useless moron saying this but...how do you delete bits of a track. Cause I highlight it and no obvious method of deleting it works

    Delete key? Edit->Delete?

    Nope, don't work.

    Something's wrong, then. What version do you have? The delete key should always delete something, and Edit->Delete should do the same thing.
