I just heard someone talkin smack about Odin Sphere who was it I'll kick his ass I'll kick his ass

    Looking forward to this though!

In all fairness, if you told me there were a hundred people who had the patience to fully complete that game and see the story through to completion, I'd be stunned.

Count me on that list. The story was too good for me to not go through to completion. I just watched Gwendolyn's story last night and I remember what got me through. That and I have some odd affinity for collecting junk and then putting it together to put it to good use. The restaurant/alchemy system was sweet. Also the art, music, and voice acting. In fact, I loved everything aside from the slowdown and that block and attack were the same button.

I saw it through also, true ending and all. It was worth it, but I'm wondering how many people who got the game(and if it really went GH, that must be a lot) managed to pull that off.

After seeing the scene tree and realizing that I'd have to do some of the last boss fights with every fucking character, I became a little bit reluctant, but after searching on youtube for the true ending and only finding it in japanese, I decided to just go for it. I cheesed a couple of the bosses so it really only took me about 10 more hours. Definitely worth it at the time. At this point, probably not so much.

Out of curiosity, did anybody here have big enough gamer nuts to finish the game on the hardest difficulty?

Bad news, or maybe good news?

XSeed aren't publishing it anymore in the US.

    Maybe Atlus will be?

Oh hey, I posted some gameplay vids of this a few days ago.
This was just released in Japan for Wii and is scheduled for some time this year in the US (and Spring 2010 for EU). It looks pretty awesome, replacing Odin Sphere's somewhat slower and clunkier controls for really quick movement and a few (slightly) different fighting styles depending on which weapon you're using. It's also super stylized as you'd expect from VanillaWare, although in very much an Eastern vein.

The basic system is that by doing defensive shit, your weapons erode and then break. Some boss attacks will instantly destroy your weapon. They regenerate somewhat quickly, but you're helpless without them. You get three swords at once though, at can switch between them more or less at will.

    Poor timing?

    Muramasa Loses Its American Publisher
By Luke Plunkett, 9:30 PM on Mon Apr 20 2009, 5,443 views
What is it with Wii games losing publishers? First Fatal Frame, now Muramasa - which was about the best-looking thing due on the console in 2009 - finds its American release up in the air.

Vanillaware's gorgeous 2D side-scroller was supposed to be released by XSEED in North America later this year (it was released in Japan earlier this month). But the company today issued a statement that reads:

XSEED Games confirms that it is no longer involved with the North American release of Muramasa: The Demon Blade. XSEED Games and Marvelous had previously announced the game as part of the initial line up between the two publishing partners. We firmly believe in the product and will look forward to seeing it release in North America. We enjoy and respect our relationship with Marvelous, and are committed to working together to deliver an amazing line up of games in the US including the highly anticipated Little King's Story, the epic RPG Arc Rise Fantasia and Suda51's intriguing mystery adventure Flower, Sun, Rain.

So now Marvelous need to find somebody else to publish the game in the US. Or, going by the tone of that release, have already found one, and for some reason aren't announcing it just yet. Either way...please hurry!

On another slightly related note, is Grim Grimmiore worth it?

It's really short, and a bit less fun than RTSes already are on the PS2 because it's pretty easy and not very deep. But the style's aces.

There have been a number of fun, stylish 3d games that used cell shading, but you just can't fake the effect of actual hand-drawn art.

I love the way this looks. I wonder if I need to buy a Wii.

Muramasa is confirmed to be released by Rising Star Games. It's just they'll take an eternity to localize it. Methinks they'll be lazy and wait for the US to translate, which means that this change of publisher may also harm us Europeans D:

Don't you be negative about MH3. Just don't.

Man why can't Atlus pick this up, did Odin Sphere do too poorly? They'd no doubt be able to produce a good localization after their efforts on Persona 4.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

It made greatest hits, so it had to have sold at least 400,000 copies. That's pretty fucking good for a niche title like Odin Sphere.

I was praying that Atlus would pick it up after hearing that XSEED dropped it, but who the hell is this company that picked it up? Looks like they publish bullshit shovelware for handhelds and they handle SNK's stuff in Europe.

I'm happy we're at least getting it, but I've got pretty damn high expectations after Odin Sphere's localization. This game looks incredible and an Atlus-caliber localization would be icing on an already wonderful cake.

Does everyone who thinks it's A-OK all understand Japanese? Because if you don't, like the vast majority of people in the US, and hence the vast majority of their customer base in the US, no english is BAD. Nothing good about leaving it out. It be good if they had the english dub AND the original japanese on the disc. Both is good. Cutting the english one is just to save $$$$.

OP could use some updates too. I was confused at first on release dates/publishers when I saw this thread. Game looks nice, though. Hopefully the subtitles do too. :)

This is the nichest of the niche games anyway. It's likely not going to affect the game's sales much.

And what does this have to do with understanding Japanese? The game is translated. Shit, you think not including an English voice track affected Shadow of the Colossus' sales?

Because they'll be talking in Japanese. That's fine if you understand what they're saying. It's less than optimal if not. Unless I'm really misunderstanding something, I admit I haven't actually heard the game yet...

I make no claim one way or another wether it will help or hurt sales. I'm saying it hurts the experience and the're doing it to cut costs. These are hardly wild claims of insanity. Game could still be stellar.

Odin Sphere despite being a bad game had pretty good English voice acting. Muramasa though is a very Japanese game so I think it's right that Japanese voices be the only option. English voice acting would have added extra expense to an already niche game so I think Ignition are being very savvy.
