It's worth noting that I believe Wii Sports Resort also will have disc golf. At least, I read a passing mention of it once in an E3 writeup, but I can't remember which one.

It has dog frisbee. I'm guessing the difference will be the multiple kinds of discs you have access to in T10, whereas Wii sports might just be a single kind of frisbee?
I'll check out the campaign modes of Tiger Woods, Grand Slam and Virtua Tennis more in depth today as this seems to be many people's question.
As for why I prefer Virtua Tennis over Grand Slam, it's not about the controls. I'm not a true tennis player, so I can't really tell which game emulates real tennis the best with perfect professional eyes. However, the way I "felt" it, both were excellent and picked up your moves fine. My problem with Grand Slam has nothing to do with how accurately it plays. It's all about the presensation and the graphics. As I've said, they suck ass. They look like shit compared to Virtua Tennis, in fact, they look like shit even if you're not comparing them to anything. The ball, when moving fast, skips a lot of space between each frame of animation. This is the biggest problem. The animation is SUPER choppy. INCREDIBLY choppy. And I've got component cables. Virtua Tennis plays much more smoothly when you're on the field.
Still, I think that for a non-gamer, Grand Slam might be the better choice. Virtua Tennis is HARD. With motion+ controls and the ability to move your own character, we haven't won a match yet.
EDIT: RE Carrier mode in Virtua Tennis
Yeah, there is such a mode. You've got more than one save slot, which means other people can play a World Tour too. After editing your character with the customisation tools, you choose your location, and like in previous Virtua Tennis games, you play matches and earch money, have a limited ammount of stamina, etc. You can buy new clothes from the store, and also other rackets, which have different stats. It's very much like the previous one.
It's worth noting that I believe Wii Sports Resort also will have disc golf. At least, I read a passing mention of it once in an E3 writeup, but I can't remember which one.
ya its been mentioned in a few of the sports resorts write-ups from e3. also in some of the videos in gametrailers you can see the option for disc golf along side the option for disc-dog. i read somewhere that its a full 18 hole course too.

It has some sort of Frisbee Golf too. It was in the E3 demo. You can see it in the options here:
Then we jumped into Frisbee mode. We skipped the dog catch mode in favor of the full Frisbee Golf option. We love the Disc Mode in the upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010, but it's clear that the version in Wii Sports Resort is much tighter with better disk handling and more attention paid to the physics of the throw. You can play a short three hole game or take part in a whole 18 hole course, with multiple courses available to take part in.
I've played some more Virtua Tennis, and I have to admit that the ball leaving no shadow CAN get a little annoying. It's NOWHERE near game-breaking like my friend said it was, but it is an annoyance, and you have to deal with it.
MAJOR UPDATE ABOUT MY OPINION OF GRAND SLAM
After playing some Virtua Tennis, I've put Grand Slam back in. I don't have any friends home today so I'm currently playing some single-player, and holy shit, is it day and night. All my issues about the framerate are gone in single-player mode in Singles. Yesterday we were playing Doubles in 2P, and it was very choppy, but now that there are only 2 guys on the field and only one human-controller, it's smooth as butter. The cardboard cutout audience even moves now. I'll make some more test, see if it's because of Doubles or more than one human players that the game gets so laggy, but right now it's great.
Also, now that I've played some more and that it isn't as raw as it was, I can say with confidence that Grand Slame replicates your moves much better than Virtua Tennis. It is incredibly intuitive. This is sad because now it seems both Grand Slam and Virtua Tennis have they ups and downs.
EDIT:
In Doubles with only one human you only barely lose any smoothness at all. I'm starting to think it's the number of human players that make it choppy.
Dodge Aspen: The actual golf in TW 2010 is awesome though, I don't think you need to miss on it.
My golfing needs are taken with Tiger Woo '09 on 360 right now, predominantly for online play with friends; I was mostly interested in Tiger Woo '10 for the disc golf, but if that's in Wii Sports Resort, along with a solid-ass table tennis, I'll probably just pick that up and wait for future MP+ titles.
I want to know how in-depth the character customization is, and if there are any courses that are not based on real world locations. Not much hope for it, but y'know.
I don't know for the courses, but character customization in TW2010 is VERY in-depth. You select your appearance with various sliders, then your general posture, include how much you knee down and your general grip on the club for your idle position, when backswinging, swinging, etc. You obviously can select which clubs you want, your clothes, the basic stuff.
As for courses, I don't actually know golf courses. I'll check it out.
RE: Disc golf
I've never played Resorts so I can't compare and say which one is better, but I'll only say this: This is the most accurate use of motion controls I've ever seen in any videogame whatsoever, and it is fun as hell! I'll bet if you did the same throw with a real disc and M+, they'd both land at the same place. This is incredibly intuitive and fun. This one mode will be the king of family parties. I was throwing the disc around, curving too much to the left and giving it some bad spin. I remember I do that in real life too, so I adjusted my wrist, and the hand on screen adjusts in real time. I've calculated my power, thought "This is the perfect move, it WILL land in the basket." I throw the disc, it perfectly lands in the basket. It wasn't a lucky shot, I wanted to throw it like that, I did, it worked. Dare I say this is even more fun than Tennis or Golf?
EDIT: Birdie!
EDIT2: If Resorts is said to have even tighter controls and physics for the disc game than TW2010, I'll be sure to pick Resorts. I'm honestly wondering how it can actually get better than this.
Silellak: I don't think you need to re-calibrate often, in fact, I don't think I've conciously recalibrated during tennis games, and have never felt the need to. I did it between each of my shots in Tiger Woods, but only because I had to wait anyway. I didn't need to.

The setup is probably the same as other recent Tiger Woods games. Tiger '09 has the dual-slider setup for character generation, and the PGA Tour Game Face setup is probably the deepest and most varied character generator I've ever seen. There are something like 80 different variables, everything from width of eyes and jawbone to percentage of crows' feet and freckling.
The courses are all grounded in reality, but there's some good variety and course setups in the later courses (that tend to be harded). A Greece course with ionic columns and shit sticking up, a Japanese course with cherry bloosoms, etc. Nothing that hits Mario Golf levels of wackiness, though.

Silellak: Yeah, I've pretty much been able to make my character do whatever I want. It is true that sometimes he doesn't seem to want to move from fore to back hand and vice-versa, but usually it works perfectly. I don't know what might be your problem, really. You sure you set up your left/right hand setting right?
Sporky: As far as I can tell, TW2010 has no fantasy courses, just real-life ones.
Tiger Woods: Awesome! It's a fine game, which obviously doesn't have all the eye-candy of its HD counterparts, but the controls with M+ are just fantastic. Intuitive enough that a non-gamer can pick it up and enjoy it (so it could be a success at family parties). We've set all the controls to the most "advanced" and "realistic" possible, and in three holes both my friend and I were at 1 over Par only. The putting was the most impressive use of M+ I've seen. Someone NEEDS to make a miniputt game with M+.
advanced and realistic, but you and friend only 1 over par.... are you that good of golfers in real life?
to me this is distressing. How much do you know about the fundamentals of a golf swing (trying to gauge how realistic this game is)? Does swing path matter in this game, for instance if I draw my club back to 4 o'clock and follow through to 11 o'clock (assuming my club head is square to the ball) will it produce a hideous slice? Also if the club head isn't square to the ball and closed/hooded in the same scenario does it produce a snap hook?
can you top a ball?
I'm really hoping to hear the realistic settings are as brutal as real golf.

I've never played golf in real life, so I wouldn't know. I'm reviewing this as I feel it, if that makes any sense. When I say this is accurate, I don't mean compared to real golf (although I might be without knowing it). I mean that it's accurate because my golfer does what I believe I'm doing when hitting the ball. It's not jerking all over the place while I was trying to do this one specific shot.
Plus, we were 1 over par after 2 holes. We bogey'd on the third one.

I get the idea of what you are saying, but wondering if you could try out a swing for me based on the above. If you are right handed make your swing path like this \ on the backswing draw the club away from your body and on the downswing come in towards your body. This is common among bad golfers and is "cutting across" the ball. It will normally produce a result of the ball veering way off to the right in a drastic slice. Try that out and let me know what happens or if they even allow for that goofy swing pattern.
I'm just afraid that even the "realistic" settings in the game are like all the other Tiger games I have played where it is too easy to get shots where you want them. I'm looking for a kind of realism where like even Tiger and the real pros will mis-hit a ball and put one in the woods on occassion.
edit:
topping a ball is just how it sounds, you hit the top of the golf ball causing it to just roll on the grass and never get in the air, normally the ball will have lots of top spin and run down the fairway fast, but not have much distance. I could see this happening in game, get to address at the ball and take notice of the current height of the remote, now on your downswing try and follow through with the remote at a slightly higher elevation than where you were when you started the swing. is this possible?
I don't know how the swing really works for the Wii versions of Tiger in general, but I'd love to try and recreate some of these beginner mistakes of golf. Because if these are possible then when you hit a good shot it will really have that satisfaction behind it that it is more of a golf-sim.

I turned on Mulligans and I've tried what you said.
I first did a very good shot that went straight and at 87% power (with realistics settings on I seem to always sacrifice some power for straight shots, because it's sensitive to angle).
Then, I tried the shot you've described, going from away to towards my body. The difference between the two shots is as follow:
1 - Fairway.
2- OB, and how!
(I was aiming at the fairway both times, it was all in my swing)
I then tried to do the cutting across motion without exagerating it, as if I was actually trying to do it right. I sent myself in a sand trap.
EDIT: I don't seem to be able to top the ball. The height of the Wiimote isn't taken into account for such a shot. This said, I've noticed you can "flop", "punch" the ball, and can choose to hit the ball in a very upwards angle (like, from the bottom of the ball) or horizontal angle. It still sends the ball in the air, but it rolls more.
edit: if you aren't getting full power on a straight shot it may be because the ideal swing isn't straight. sure you can hit it swinging from 6 - 12 o'clock like this | but less power and accuracy issues would be common. \ was the very bad example given, but the ideal swing path for a right handed person is / from like 7 to 1 on a clock. you could try that and see if you get a bit more power.
there are even some odd swinging pros out there, think Jim Furyk starts out on the backswing like this \ but on his downswing he corrects the motion and then goes to / . it is an odd looping motion he does at the top of his backswing.
Tiger Woods games have, for like 10 years, been giving you horribly unrealistic scores. It's just part of their design -- they want you to feel like you're having a kick-ass game, even if you have the difficulty turned all the way up.

That could be, but I think it's more because I don't swing all the way up backwards and forwards, or don't do the swing motion fast enough since I'm trying to stay as straight as possible. I can do 100% power easily, but if I want to do it real straight, then I need to concentrate on my shot, and it usually results in slower motions. It's not the game, it's me. I just need to practice.

Djiem, is disc golf unlocked from the start? And if so, how does it feel? If you answered this before, I missed it.
I did answer it, look up my above posts. In short, the same courses unlocked from the start for regular golf are unlocked for disc golf, and it feels amazing! It's really fun, too.

The same could be said for Mario Golf, as sometimes you can get near 350 yard drives.

Sorry for asking again then. I've been following the thread and must have missed it when there was a burst of posts between my checking.
So, regarding Grand Slam, I've been playing some more of it, and I've tried some more 2P Doubles by holding both Wiimotes with their M+ (one in each hand). For some reason, it's not as crippingly choppy as I thought it was yesterday. Does it depend on the court? Was I hallucinating? Either way, it isn't as smooth as 1P, this much I can say without a doubt. It is a little choppy, but it's not game-killing like I seemed to think yesterday.
It's just that the framerate sucks compared to Wii Sports Tennis and Virtua Tennis. On its own, it's "acceptable".
So, in conclusion, I'd recommend you RENT Grand Slam and Virtua Tennis and make up your mind yourself. Both games are great, but both have their problems. I might recommend Grand Slam more for people who want to play it with non-gamers.
Tiger Woods, however, is an instant buy.

So I just picked up Tiger. Djiem's impressions sold me. I might pop back in after some play time to give my opinion.
Played a little of Tiger. It's the first time I've played an EA Sports game unless you count SSX.
Damn, this game is in-depth compared to every other golf game I've played. I like it. All kinds of modes, stats, guides and options. The character customization impressed me a lot.
I watched my friend play, having chosen All Play style. He thought he had the hang of it and was doing awesome until I noticed it was snapping his club angle back to perfect center at the end of every swing. We didn't really try out the advanced mode much.
I played some disc golf and it is awesome. I have one main complaint: once you are on the green and using the putting disc, and are aimed right at the "cup" as is default, you will never miss. Ever. I swear I tried, I threw it vertical, angled, with lots of power and with almost no power, and it always went straight in like it was magnetic. If you adjust your aim with the d-pad though, then it becomes fairly easy to miss.
Also I am one who tries strange things a lot in games just to see if they are possible. You can't throw the disc behind you (trying often results in semi-decent forward throws!) and you can't roll it along the ground easily. It's clear you must play it the way it was meant to be played. I was also disappointed that while golfing, you do not have club control before/during the shot like you have disc control. Your character goes through a canned animation still, although the resulting shots do feel very accurate in terms of how I swing.
That's just some quick tests from a short impression. Overall this one is going to take a long time to absorb and learn and I'm looking forward to it.
I've got both Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger 10 but no MotionPlus thingy so I'm not even going to bother playing them yet. Did anyone buy a stand-alone one and if so, where did you get it?
Got 4 motion-plus (from Best Buy, which only had 10 of them), Tiger, and Grand Slam. Only played Tiger. My biggest problem is that I never played a previous Tiger on the Wii, so I have no way to compare how much it's improved. The swing is 1-to-1, of course, which apparently it wasn't on previous versions of Tiger. Anyway...seems fun enough. I also have the 360 tiger, so I'm anxious to see how they compare for once.
Man, why did you get 4 of them? Go big or go home, I guess? It would indeed be pretty cool with lots of people.
Why didn't you get pack ins to take care of some of the M+'s? Do you not have access to it where you live? It saves you $10 (in other words my copy of Tiger was $60).
I only got two because I'm planning to get another one with the new Wii Sports, and then one with Red Steel 2.
Same here, I expect more pack ins, no rush. Of course not everyone is interested in those games (I pity the ones who aren't looking forward to Wii Sports Resort ).

I couldn't find the bundle and was impatient. Yah, I have 4 controllers and thought why not, ya know? Got enough couples coming over to my house that I'd be disappointed if I didn't have one on each controller for some tennis or 4-some golf.
I'm almost certain it does. We only had 2 Wiimotes with M+ turned on at the time, but there were symbols for player 3 and 4 that could be moved to their side of the court along with our 2 symbols.

Have you been able to emulate this video in practice mode? http://tennis.easports.com/onCourt.action
My big issue is that my character seems dedicated to staying in the backhand stance, even if I'm clearly in the forehand stance myself.
Sporky: As far as I can tell, TW2010 has no fantasy courses, just real-life ones.
advanced and realistic, but you and friend only 1 over par.... are you that good of golfers in real life?
to me this is distressing.

Wikipedia says Hazeltine is in the game.
Djiem also says Hazeltine is in the game. However, it's locked. I need to do some tournament on Hard mode apparently.

I suppose I could have looked there. It's one of those lazy days in which I'm disappointed in my effort in life today.

I did answer it, look up my above posts. In short, the same courses unlocked from the start for regular golf are unlocked for disc golf, and it feels amazing! It's really fun, too.
Sorry for asking again then. I've been following the thread and must have missed it when there was a burst of posts between my checking.

Why didn't you get pack ins to take care of some of the M+'s? Do you not have access to it where you live? It saves you $10 (in other words my copy of Tiger was $60).
Same here, I expect more pack ins, no rush. Of course not everyone is interested in those games (I pity the ones who aren't looking forward to Wii Sports Resort
