Tuesdays, 9pm on Discovery
I was surprised to see a popular show like this lacks a D&D thread, especially with the new season starting uh, 30 or so minutes ago.
The familiar captains are all back.
The crazy swedes Sig and Edgar Hansen are back on the
Northwestern. His crew is very much the same this season.
The Hillstrand brothers, Jon and Andy, return as well, to captain the
Time Bandit. They have a new deckhand, who they've known for a long time to watch and use their boat during the off season. He's eyeing the captain's chair for when the Hillstrands step down.
Keith Colburn is back, still in the wheelhouse on the
Wizard. Will any rookies try and confront him this season? It remains to be seen.
And now for the shocker, Captain Phil Harris
will not be captaining the
Cornelia Marie this season. His boys are still there, but now his engineer, Murray Gamrath (over Phil's right shoulder), will captain the boat. Phil's blood clot remains and as they are setting to sail, he was recommended not to go out on the boat for the possibility of his death.
This season looks like it could be exciting, especially with the change to the Cornelia Marie. It brings something new to the show. Plus, Edgar is always bound to do something crazy.

Oh shit
Sig is my favorite captain because he runs a tight ship and don't take no shit from nobody, but Phil was a close second. Makes me sad he won't be there, but if it's for his health, I'm glad he didn't. Poor guy

Yeah, "not the safest thing in the world" may be a touch of an understatement.
Man, the shit factor of this "Out of the Wild" show is only amplified by having to directly follow the awesomeness of Deadliest Catch.
together?
I'm just sayin'.
But yes, the end of the first episode is pretty epic. Could be down two captains for this season.
Gotta wait for the repeat later tonight

Holy shit that opening showcased some seriously action-movie-trailer editing. It was quality stuff

Ah, Damnit! I hadn't seen it yet.
GM: Rusty Chains (DH Ongoing)
That should be fucking intense.
Critical Failures - Havenhold Campaign • August St. Cloud (Human Ranger)
It is so unbelievably awesome
Summary: Crab fishing is not a noble profession. You're most likely a crab fisherman if you:
1. Didn't graduate high school.
2. Inherit a boat from your father.
Don't act like you're the proverbial "poopshit" when you probably can't even read.
Did a Crab fisherman rape your dad or something?

There was Greenhorn last season, on one of the non-4 big boats. It was the portly guy that they made wear a Viking helmet with green horns on it. That guy worked his ass off for them. He had one little breakdown but then get his shit together for the rest of the season. The biggest problem was that he just wasn't that good at being a fisherman. It took him a long time to get his sea legs.
But the real problem is that the crew of that boat wasn't helping. There was one scene where they tried to get him his sea legs, and he was trying, and he kinda got it, but after that they just derided him and yelled all the time. When it came time to decide if they were gonna bring him back next season, this old fuck wasl ike "No, nope, never want him on this boat again" despite the fact that, from what they showed on TV, this guy worked harder than anyone on that boat. They ultimately let him go.
I'm just sitting there like "Whatever rookie you bring next year is going to do just as bad and might not work as hard!" These guys cut their losses too quickly. It'd be like a sports team letting an untested rookie go just because he wasn't an All-Star in the first season. If you give a hard working guy like that an extra season to develop, you might find you have a great employee out there.
Actually...
Yes.
It's like, yeah, we get it, your dick is huge because you can throw a hook over the side of the boat and 9 times out of 10 you'll get the line. Big fucking deal. You'd think that 100% turnover with the greenhorns might clue them in to the fact that they're being colossal assholes to the new guys for absolutely no reason. They're not doing the greenhorns a favor by being jerks all the time.
Fucking help the new guys out and teach them how to do their jobs. Everyone will be happier for it.
Also he gave that greenhorn a jacket, that was great
Though to be fair, though I agree that some of the greenhorns get ridden for too long or for too little, some of them just are not cuttin' it. Like that cowboy guy who worked super slow despite everyone saying he needed to work faster, and then walking off and throwing a tantrum for a couple days, then coming back and working even slower
There was another greenhorn there I think who was basically doing all the work and they kept him on for another season

Also, who the hell has a black life raft?!
This episode is the saddest thing. Ever. Ever.
