    Blue one of what, loom?

The prints in a not-quite-done state, its got its first layer of paint but I'm going to change some of the designs and go into more detail. its also missing some fur and she'll maybe get a butt loin cloth too.

The feathers look awesome. Are you going to do something with the shoulders? The attachment to the body looks unfortunately ugly.

Well, the arms aren't at all glued because I still have to paint. (hence my finger holding it up, they will hold on their own with the glue.) There wont be any wire showing and some smaller feathers will be attached there

The printed model doesn't have the same feel as the sketch in my opinion but... hearing that it was printed just kind of blows my mind and makes the model equally interesting (but less aesthetically so)

Your paintings are all neat though... I agree with everything tam said about them (I wish I could think of something more constructive to say...)

That was kinda my crit from my teacher. It was a class about our rapid prototyping machines on campus, so I didn't have a ton of options (I couldn't, say, do this out of clay by hand for the class). In alot of ways I have no idea how to get that "feel" from the sketches, because I think alot of that is just lost in the digital reproducing? Or maybe my kinda lack luster modeling skills.

Its a good crit I just don't know what to do about it. I figure I'll polish this model to the best it can be and ponder on it for the next print.

The paintings will continue though, as they are part of my thesis.

One of the problems I think, is the legs. They have a more fluid design in the sketch (their thickness varies) than in the prototype (mostly consistent round shape throughout.). I'm not sure how easy it would be to sand down, but it might be worth a shot. Any other problems might be more difficult to fix considering you've already printed it out.

also, will the joint between the wing and the shoulder be more seamless when finished? It seems a touch to glaringly obvoius at the moment

Well, shes hollow. So I cant change the width of anything by sanding. one thing to note with some of the differences is that, I wanted the thing to be stable and stand on its own, even with the wings (which it does) To do that it needed somewhat beefier feet than what I sketched originally, because the mask makes it top heavy.

    as to the wings:

EDIT: Oh snap, was trying to save yo the trouble but you beat me to it Iruka!

EDIT2: And I think the biggest difference between the model and the sketch is the size of the head/mask thing to the rest of the body. On the model it appears to be a lot larger.

I can see there being balance issues... I guess my solution (for next time atleast) would be to have semi large feet but let the legs be trim like the original design but I don't really know much about the strenght of the medium that printer uses.. so that might not be a viable option.

@ wings Well, I did read that, I guess i just somehow didn't pick up on the "fix". sorry for the redundant question.

@head: I thought so too... but I can't decide if its just my eyes playing tricks or if it really is larger. I also think part of the problem is that the drawing has a relatively thin neck to separate the head from the body where as the model doesn't (or atleast, it isn't as apparent)

The problem with the medium is that, while strong once sealed with the super glue, its a bit... crumbly when it first gets off the printer. If I had more money I would have taken more risks with the model but the longer neck and thinner ankle would have been prone to snapping right the hell off. Especially because you don't get to take it off the printer yourself, so the tech may fuck up your day.

There are work arounds, building supports within the model and such, so I'll keep the shapes in mind next time. As an object, I'm pretty pleased with it though.

Yeah the Drago-pillar does contain much kickassedness. As for the design I think it is good but perhaps a different placement. Like pushing it up so it crosses from the right pit to left shoulder. Maybe have the tail peaking out lower down from where it is wrapping around the back lower on the shirt. That sort of asymmetrical front to back design. I dunno just a couple of ideas.

    Look! Lil' Vivi's growing up.

The drawing for the dragopillar is awesome, but you're right about it not quite working on the shirt yet, and I don't think enlarging or morphing the graphic would really help. Perhaps you could toy with a less central positioning of the image, like down near the bottom? Alternatively, if you wanted to introduce some more graphical elements, you could take some inspiration from traditional Asian art, since you've already got that aesthetic going. Something like this, I guess, except in your style.

I'm trying to think of a useful comment, but I got nothin'.

EDIT: I wonder what it metamorphosises in to. *daydreams*

Ok this gave me an idea. What if you shifted it down to be more in the lower left of the shirt (our pov) and had the dragonpillar looking up and to the right at a dragobutterfly that looks down from the top right? It would of course be a whole new drawing to do, but it would be pretty sweet to see both of them.

Threadless, Yeah. This one will go up on threadless. I put Mouthface up on DBH. Its doing alright. I'm trying to be loose not let the idea of winning get me all caught up. just get a hang of what works for tee shirts. DBH is better for instant feedback, I find, because theres no mystery about how well its doing. Its an interesting exercise.

I have quite a check off list of portfolio building this summer though.

On threadless tees, the only other color that is light enough is white, which works but it loses the inner shapes in the dragopillar. If it does awfully I'll work out some other colors, it would probably require the negative space to be filled.
