I've been reading The Armada (I know it's 16th century), playing quite a bit of Empire: TW and remembering how much I loved the Horatio Hornblower series. So, naturally, I now wanna read some great fantasy novels set in an early modern period.

Do it.

The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik is pretty good. Not very complex, but they are entertaining reads. Basically it's Master and Commander with a dragon-riding air corps.

    I'll definately check this out.

And... apparently there will be a film. With Peter Jackson directing.

The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson is a good read. Everybody loves a good pirate yarn. Also, Isaac Newton's in it.
