There are a few games I compulsively buy.
I'll start with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I own two copies for the SNES. I had it on the GBA at one point, but I have no idea what happened to it, and I plan on buying it again soon. It was the first game I bought on the Virtual Console on the Wii. That puts me at 3 copies in hand and one more as soon as I come across it.
I don't know how this game happened as I am not particularly good at it, but Killer Instinct has found its way into my gaming collection 3 times!
Next is Metal Gear Solid. I own the original PS1 version (non Greatest Hits, psh), the PC version, the re-release in the Essential Collection Box, and the Gamecube remake. There's 4. If they put it on the PSN I would buy it there, too. I also have 3 copies of MGS2 (original Sons of Liberty and two Substance), and 3 copies of MGS3 (original Snake Eater, Limited edition Subsistence, and the version that came in the Essential Collection box.
I have 3 copies of Ikaruga. A dreamcast, gamecube, and XBLA version. Same with Rez.
I have 3 copies of Castlevania: SOTN. I have it for the PS1, XBLA, and PSN. If I found the saturn version I would buy that, too.
Basically any time I see these games I seem to buy them. They're my catcher in the rye.

I have 2 versions of SOTN
That's about it.
If I could have multiples of Street Fighter 4 and it's respective controllers I would though.
I have RE4 on the GC and Wii (for good reason). Samurai Shodown for the Genesis, VC and the SamSho Anthology for PS2 that just came out.
Both original Resident Evil and MGS and their remakes.
Chrono Trigger - 2xSNES
Toy Commander - 2xDC
Team Fortress 2 - 360, PC
Civ2 - 3xPC
Worms - PC, XBLA and something else I cant remember. DC?
Jagged Alliance 2 - 4xPC
Alpha Centauri - 2xPC
I think thats it.
ahahahahahahaha that is too funny.
XBL - Follow Freeman
Did him a favor. I'm still pissed I got that instead of Goldeneye for Christmas.
XBL - Follow Freeman
I think I have two copies of F-Zero X for the N64 in my house, but one is lost in a labyrinth of storage boxes (this being the reason for the second copy).
The only other game I have multiple copies of is Fallout 3. I bought it originally for the 360, and then picked up the PC version for mods when I just couldn't stop playing the 360 one.
At one point I also had 3 different versions of Ocarina of Time.
2 copies of Half-Life 2/ Episode 1
2 copies of Starcraft + Brood Wars
Thats it.
GM: Rusty Chains (DH Ongoing)
I've bought Advance Wars: Dark Conflict for a gift and then later I bought another copy for myself. I bought two copies of Chrono Trigger for DS at once, but one of them was a gift.
My cousin is a complete Zelda whore. He has Ocarina of Time on N64, Master Quest that came with The Wind Waker and on Virtual Console, A Link to the Past on GBA and VC and both the Wii and Gamecube versions of Twilight Princess.
Ikaruga on Cube and Xbox live arcade
Mass effect on PC and xbox
DMC 4 on PC and xbox
Fallout 3 on pc and xbox (although the pc one doesnt work -.-)
No more heroes for the wii twice
Dead Space on PC and xbox
Banjo Kazooie on live and N64
Stalker twice on the pc
Link to the past 3 times on the snes, once on GBA (god knows why)
Super metroid 2 times on the snes and once on wii
Sonic 1 on Megadrive, Cube collection, xbox collection etc etc
I can't think of any others though I'm sure there's more.
Youtube Channel!
I have Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 on VC and Sonic Mega Collection Plus for PC that includes both of those and much more.
original SNES version
Playstation Re-release
and the GBA enhanced version.
I also have 2 copies of broodwar and starcraft.
and two copies of HL2
thats about it.
I have like five copies of this game.

First time, bought it used, had a scratch (rendering unplayable), exchanged it, froze about midway through the game, returned it, rebought it new a couple of years later, lost it, rebought it, left it at my parents house, and am now looking to buy it again so I can finally, finally, finally actually beat it
No, I'm not kidding
I must've played through the game 4 times, at least, and at some point I stop right before Sin (This is with, like 50 hours of playtime) to max everyone's Sphere Grid/ beastiary/ get Ultimate Weapons and end up never doing it, and then for one reason or another never get around to actually beating the goddamn game
Even that mini Mega Drive Sonic plug-in for your TV.
No idea why I keep buying it but I just can't resist!
You just threw down the Challenge, now TSR is gonna come on in here
Final Fantasy IV 4 Copies (PS1, Snes, GBA & DS remake)
Chrono Trigger 3 (Snes, PS1 & DS. I'll probably buy any others that come out as well)
Deus Ex 2 copies (both PC...unsure how I got the second copy)
FF Tactics 3 copies (2 PS1 [thought one was stolen from me] and PSP)
PS3 Trophies
The original I bought. I thought I lost Warcraft III when I wanted to reinstall sometime later, and bought another copy.
At some point I picked up an extra copy from a LAN party that no one wanted to claim.
Then finally, I bought a copy for my wife.
We also own several dublicates of good SNES games. LttP, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World. But thats just because she owned them, and I owned them, and then we got married and we owned them.
Pokemon Safari - Sneasel, Pawniard, ????
Super Mario 64- 2 copies on the N64 (same reason as with OoT).
A Link to the Past- GBA and SNES
Super Mario RPG- VC and SNES
Mario Kart 64- VC and N64
Sonic the Hedgehog- VC and Genesis
Odin Sphere- I bought it three times since I stupidly traded it in twice.
Grandia 2- Dreamcast and PS2 (the latter of which is beyond buggy)
Chrono Trigger- PS1 and DS
Sonic Adventure- Dreamcast and GCN
Zelda 1: NES, GC Compilation
Zelda 2: NES, GC Compilation, GBA Classics
Link to the Past: SNES, Wii VC
Castlevania 1: NES, GBA Classics
Rez: Dreamcast, XBLA
Half-Life 2: regular + Orange box, already gifted the other extras I had though.
Final Fantasy 1: NES, GBA Remake
There's probably more, nothing too bad I don't think.

when remakes/re-releases are involved, however, I have 3 copies of FFIV (SNES,GBA,DS) 2 of FFVI (SNES,GBA) and 2 copies of Chrono Trigger (SNES and DS.) If you include promotional discs and unlocked content, I also at least 2 copies of Metroid (NES, unlock from Prime (maybe 3, isn't there another metroid game that has the origianl?) and 2 copies of the original Legend of Zelda, AoL, OoT, and MM, owning both the original release and the gamecube promotional disc that has all 4 games on it. I once had 3 for OoT, owning the other promotional disc with it and the Master Quest, but gave that to my cousin.
...and it likely won't end there. I'm probably going to get the Sega Genisis collection which came out recently, which would mean sonic 1,2,3, and S&K (1 and 2 VC, S3&K from the PC Sonic Mega Collection) I might get MM when it comes to VC stateside, and not only am I hoping for another FFVI, but I'm also hopping that either a) is released on the Wii instead of the DS or b) has some crazy use of the DSi's SD card slot, or simply waiting untill the next handheld generation, so I can get it with better graphics than FFIV DS had...
and 2 copies of Final Fantasy viii (PC and PS)
I have bought many game multiple times.
The worst offender is Super Mario World.
I think I am at 5 or 6 times.
3DS FC: 5343-7720-0490
Dawn of War Gold & Dark Crusade
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee & Exoddus
Civ IV
Titan Quest
1. Greatest Hits. Bought used at EB. Disc 1 freezes at the cutscene where you get Cid, but the other discs work.
2. Black Label. Bought from someone off Kijiji. Pretty much mint condition.
3. Greatest Hits. Guy I bought copy 2 from included a free disc 2 and 3.
4. PC. Got off Goozex.
Once it comes to PSN I'll more than likely get it a fifth time.
Do... Re... Mi... So... Fa.... Do... Re.... Do...
Forget it...
Then Link to the Past on SNES, GBA, and the VC.
Ocarina of Time Gold cartridge, grey cartridge, Masterquest (GC), compilation (GC), and VC.
Original Zelda for NES, GBA NES series, and VC.
I like Zelda games.
I also have Final Fantasy 2 and 3 for SNES (4 and 6) and then I have copies of them again in the anthology collection for the playstation.
Then most recently I bought FF6 for game boy advanced off ebay. I was told it would be shipped within a week, 2 weeks go by and I look online and he's deleted his profile, so we make a grievance with ebay and they refund my money. I put down another bid on another version of ff6 for GBA and win it, 3 days later I get it in the mail. Woohoo, then 2 days after that I get the first one I ordered...I felt a bit bad...
So that makes 4 copies of FF6
I also have Chronotrigger for SNES and NDS.
I bought Myth 1, and then I bought the gold edition of Myth 2, which was Myth 1 and 2 together.
I also have lego star wars II the original series, then I got Lego Star Wars the complete series, so that's kind of the same game twice. I also bought dungeon keeper 2 twice, because I thought I lost my original (I didn't).
That's all that I can think of!
I have Mega Man 2 for the VC, I got Rock Man 2 for the Famicom, and am trying to find a cheap copy of the game for the NES. God I love MM2.
As far as re-releases and VC go... hundreds of dollars. Half of my collection I've probably rebought in another format.
Reason, because I cringe everytime my four year old grabbes Sonic Jam and tries to put it into her PSP.
Now that's never happened but you get the picture ...
LIZ: Different.
VOICE-OVER: It's September 24th, I'm Liz Parker and five days ago I died. But then the really amazing thing happened. I came to life.
