The beauty of it is that Technician boosts the damage of all the attacks (Pursuit is very nasty is a person switches out; 40x1.5=60x2=120).
Pursuit doubles its attack. So it becomes 80 and not 60. Therefore, it won't be boosted.
Yeah, Emerl was just multiplying in the wrong order. It will do the pursuit boost first (40x2=80), and then it will check the power and wont apply Technician.
Variable-power moves like Pursuit, Payback, Natural Gift, Hidden Power, etc. are all checked on the fly to see if Technician applies.
Man, for some reason I thought the list was due the 1st. It still says the tourney starts on the 1st though, which I assume is wrong.

Hmm, for some reason I thought that it increased Pursuit's power to 60, then doubled it if they switch out. Oh well, in all the time I've used Hitmontop, you don't really use it that much, so it doesn't matter that much.
another critical and you're fully paralyzed twice in a row. Hey, you wanted my luck to improve right?
Crit #3 second in a row. haha and its all for nothing
Good game Rockin. My luck came rushing back at the end there, maybe i'll start doing better in fights again.
I'm just having a lot of trouble choosing a good team now. I have good teams, but they're always the same pokemon that I always use.
I made so many novelty pokemon and I want to use them all but put together they make horribly weak teams.
I'm really quite sad that this Lapras isn't working out. It just isn't a suitable replacement for Empoleon at all. Gotta make that Snorlax...
If there's anyone else out there with an incomplete set of starter pokemon, I'd like us to try to fill each others holes.
Fill those holes HARD. A battle would be fun too, why not.
Cow King: I have a regular Squirtle, in case you don't have any of that family.
What I'm missing are the Charmander & Bulbasaur line. I Also don't have the G/S Pokemon yet, but I can get them from the GC games, so char and bulb have priority.
I have both bred and hatched whenever you want to pick them up TunnelRunner. Surprisingly they both came out timid for some reason (without an everstone mind you.)
EDIT: Probably not tonight though, its getting pretty late.

I have the family I need the Squirtle for rapid spin to give to Kabuto to give to Tentacool. Because you know Staryu can't breed with them . What do you want for it? I don't really have anything but I can try. But I won't be on till tomorrow at like 8ish EST.
Just getting into Pokemon for the first time... Have both Diamond and Platinum. When exactly is this tournament taking place? And is this an official Nintendo one, or just a PA tournament?
The tournament is starting in just over a week. It's a PA tournament. Note that if you don't already have most of a team of pokes to use, there's pretty much no way you'll be ready in time.
If you want to participate with an ingame team that's fine but you probably won't have much fun
Jayson: Seems OK, nothing really jumps out at me as a huge weakness. Alakazam would probably be the best lead. Of course, just the types doesn't tell me much about the team but those pokemon are all fairly solid.
Man why does Pidgeot have to have such crappy stats?
It seems like alot of my favorite pokemon are also really shitty in-game.
A lot of the pokemon from the first gen are like that, it seems. Moreover, many of the newer pokes are just plain better than most of the older ones. Why bother with Dragonite when you can get a Salamence or a Garchomp? Or Blastoise when you can have a Swampert or an Empoleon?

Maybe its just me, but I find Blastoise infinitely cooler than all of the other water starters. I mean, hes a huge fucking turtle with literal cannons coming out of his back. Though I will agree that Garchomp is pretty awesome.
I have also always been pretty pissed off at how crappy most common bug Pokemon are. I mean, Beedrill are just awesome looking, yet their stats are so crappy.
I don't completely understand as to why Game Freak even chooses to make some pokemon so shitty. I guess it makes some sense both realistically as well as mechanically for some NPC's (which are meant to be pushovers), but when the player wants to train it, they are basically throwing a big FUCK YOU in their faces.
I disagree, there are quite a few pokemon from the first generation that are still very good, either through stats or updated movesets. Gengar, Snorlax and Gyarados, for example. And zapdos, if you're counting legendaries.
Looking at the OU list, all of the 'good' pokemon from the first generation are still there. Given the number of new ones introduced there was bound to be some pokemon overshadowed.
(also dragonite does bulky dragon dance and defensive better than salamence. It also gets superpower, making it at least as effective at mixed sets. And, um, agility, if you want to use that. Its massive support movepool is one of its best attributes.)
Game Freak's logic for the weakness of Bug-types is obvious if you listen to what in-game trainers say about them: they level up and evolve insanely quickly compared to other types. Their stats suck compared to other fully evolved pokemon because they're *not* meant to be going up against them to begin with. They're meant to go up against pokemon that haven't earned enough experience to evolve yet.
Yeah, basically. Game freak has only recently started to cater to a more competitive viewpoint (as evidenced by move tutors, and the woman who gives a ribbon to a pokemon with max EVs.)
Even now, there are no references to such things in the main game. On the plus side, there were fewer crappy bugs introduced in DP, and the ratatta/pidgey equivalents are actualy useful- staraptor kicks ass and really stands out from other normal/flyings due to close combat, and Bibarel has unique abilities that give it a niche.
Well, yes, but it's also the only pokemon to have Unaware (if you don't count Numel, it's the only pokemon to have Simple) which gives it some options. With Simple, one Curse will give it +2 atk/def, making it quite powerful. On the other hand, Unaware gives it the ability to stop setup sweepers, since their attack boosts will simply not apply to Bibarel. It also gets Super Fang.
With 2 Pokemon that are x4 weak to Fire you might want to get something that resists.
It also seems like there's a lack of diverse attacks. Any Ice attacks? Electric? Fire?
Most teams will have a Water type so Grass/Electric can be very important.
Those are all solid pokemon though, it should do alright.

You said a second ago that it doubles before checking for Tech but now you say that it gets the Tech boost before it doubles.
When the opponent is not switchin out, Technician does apply because the base power is 40 and goes up to 60.
I... still don't have anything that can handle Scizor effectively. Oh well!
I'll head online in a minute.

What is up with your recent shitty luck? Honestly, it's becoming a bit annoying.
I haven't been doing well recently. I can't seem to form a good team anymore.
hahah even paralyzing you with the Static ability isn't good luck for me.
ooph, big critical. Now thats good luck, though it only evens things out

I'm trying to figure out the reason behind that Avalanche, but I can't quite come up with something.

By the way, I know the feeling, it's happened to me before. Like near the end of 2007, and it was one of the reasons I took a break.

Bare in mind the sand storm Hippo brings is going to be hurting most of the rest of your team.
