It can be a special sweeper and sometimes is, but its good defenses and lack of weaknesses (only ice and rock, and both of these are negated by roost) coupled with good speed mean that it can be an effective and annoying wall.
Although because its defenses are somewhat low compared to a lot of other walls, and it relies on Roost to tank things in a manner similar to spiritomb (no weaknesses) it's vulnerable to extemely powerful neutral hits, thus...

Zapdos is very possibly the best Scizor counter there is.
Won't an SD'ed STAB Technician Bullet Punch break Zapdos into tiny bits, though? I thought that the only thing Electric resisted was Flying, though if it also resists Steel, that's pretty awesome.
RockinX: If you've still got one and are willing to part with it, I'd like a Mew. I don't really have anything good to give you in return, except maybe a heart scale or shards (I haven't even finished the single player game, so I haven't messed with breeding or natures, etc). I won't be able to get online until later this evening (say, 7:30pm Central time), though.

Yeah ^^. I'm glad I learned that the IVs/nature are set when the player talks to it at fullmoon island, not when the player first battles it in the wild.

@Rami and/or maytag: Do you guys use steam or something? I seem to have the worst luck trying to catch you guys in the evenings. If you use steam, my name on that is dakkon. I usually have it running in the background when I'm near my comp, even while playing pokemon. It might be easier to catch you that way instead of this thread/PMs.

I have two fully trained Starmies up for grabs, as I don't use them in battles anymore.
Both are Modest (because I was dumb), and have Surf, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. One has Psychic, the other has Grass Knot. I'm done with them, so they're free to whomever. I'd suggest that people let newbies who don't have Power Items yet take them, so that they can blitz the Battle Tower with them and get a bunch of easy BP against Palmer.

After about 400 to 500 cumulative hours on 3rd/4th gen Pokemon games, I finally encountered my first shiny: an Articuno on Fire Red with a horrible nature and IVs.
I might as well keep it, as I still have a decent one from a previous playthrough anyway.

Also Speed Bold is a good nature for a Zapdos, assuming you're using it as a tank.

Zapdos only counters Scizor if it has Heat Wave, because Thunderbolt can't hit hard enough to beat out Roost if scizor has it.
Most Zapdos do have heat wave, though, for that reason.
(also rotom-h is a better scizor counter)
