Well, then my next question would be, just how much does Acid Rain tip the balance? Is it even more over-centralizing than, say, Stealth Rock? Because if not I don't see the need to get rid of it.

Yes. It is more over-centralizing than Stealth Rock. It really ruins battles with both Pokés receiving up to four times the damage.

    hahaha weather clause

you would think, if they want a simple fix to this problem, that they would simply ban Pursuit first.
I mean its 1 attack or 3-5 pokemon, 4 moves and whole teams dedicated to a particular strategy.
    They banned the second option...

well, its only a new option so whatever. Its not something we need here though.

It wouldn't be easy to build a team based around Acid Rain though, given that with its weird effects, it'll hurt almost every Pokemon out there once it starts. Its also got a fairly specific trigger, which doesn't always get a chance to come into effect. You'd basically be building a team around hoping that your opponent gives you the chance to get off a killing Pursuit under a given battle effect, so that.. what? You'd all slowly lose health?

Not that I'd doubt some people would attempt to abuse it, its just far easier to hack a max stat Pokemon if someone is dedicated to trying to mess with people.

I guess, but it bothers me sometimes that the effects of sandstorm are permanent. I'm working on a solution for that, though.

Whether it's a glitch or not is completely irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. The only thing that matters is whether or not it fucks up the metagame too badly.

Well if they are going to ban all weather related Pokemon and moves, I would say it is fucking up the metagame a bit.

Wow, I can't believe I've never seen that before. Hilarious.

Rockin, where are you seeing this weather clause? Because the only post I can find on the matter is in the policy review, and currently 'do nothing' is the most voted option, followed by 'ban pursuit.'

Oh, and one of the new wifi tournaments has weather clause, but nowhere does it say that such a clause is now official smogon policy- seems like it is the decision of the organizer. Any change that momentous would surely be listed on the front page, and it's not.

Shoddy is completely unchanged, just checked.

There's a glitch in platinum where if you use pursuit on a switching-out pokemon during weather, it creates some weird condition where every type of weather goes into effect, each of them doing damage like hail or sandstorm. In other words you lose 1/4 of your health every turn.

I think there are some other weird effects in regards to Pokemon with weather-based abilities like Dry Skin or Sand Veil but I don't know the details.

I've heard it sends the game into a soft lock if Cherrim or Castform are out. They keep transforming and there's no way to get out of it but to turn off the DS.

Guys, Smogon has invented the Weather Clause. Tyranitar, Abomasnow, Hippowdon (and Groudon/Kyogre in ubers) are banned along with weather-inducing moves. I think it's a bit extreme, but I'd rather ban Tyranitar than Pursuit.

Also, while looking for the specifics of the clause (although it was really obvious, I wanted to know if there was more), I found out that they made a new version of Netbattle called Supremacy. This is nice. For some reason I couldn't stand Shoddy, so maybe I will be able to use this comfortably for old times' sake.

Is... anything you just said true? All I can find on this "Weather Clause" is a poll that asks people what to do about the glitch, where zero people vote for said clause. I call shenanigans unless you post some proof.

Also, Shoddy is significantly better than NetBattle was, strictly because of the "Find" tab for finding matches. I would like it if they cleaned up the presentation a bit and get around to implementing Natural Gift, but otherwise I don't see any problems with it.

Ah, strange. There are no threads on that topic, it just seems arbitrarily tagged on to various tournaments.

Either way, it's insane. I'd rather ban Pursuit than Rain Dance.

Rain Dance isn't banned because it doesn't activate the glitch.

And I'm surprised you thought I was lying.

That thread you found was for an immediate solution in Shoddy, where they want to implement the damn glitch for whatever reason.

Well, it seemed odd to me that smogon would implement any kind of ban on weather, when they love stall teams with sandstorm. I also assumed it applied to Rain Dance, which is also a fairly popular strategy.

Anyway, I'm not overly concerned about that glitch for our tournament.

The weather clause is just something tossed onto a few tournaments, it's not really "official". Hippowdon and Tyranitar still aren't normally banned (and aren't here).

Yes, Sunny Day boosts Hidden Power Fire. The same is true of HP water and rain dance, but considering pretty much every pokemon you'd want to use on a rain dance team has a water attack already that's not that useful.
