Team Fortress 2 Sets my Video Settings Way Too Low

So, since its launch, TF 2 has run smoothly, with all the bells and whistles turned (almost) all the way up. But, after having to remove and replace my video card, the program has decided to reduce all my settings to their bare minimums (including monitor resolution). I don't spend much time on the PC these days, and it's certainly possible that this glitch occurred before the system overhaul, but now I'm stuck with a game with gimped settings that - here's the kicker - refuses to return to their former, optimised settings.

Curiously, this isn't a problem with Left 4 Dead, which plays smoothly with all settings (automatically) turned way up.

So: is there any way to get TF 2 to re-scan my system and revise its settings accordingly? Unlike L4D, there doesn't seem to be a way to do it in-game.

I'm not sure about rescanning, but you can just mess with the settings under Options>Video>Advanced and toy with it from there. I run the game a fair bit above what it recommends for me anyway. Make sure to alter the settings while you're not in a server though, as the program sometimes crashes or glitches if you are.

Are you sure your video card isn't hard-defaulting to lower settings? Most NVidia and ATi cards have control centers where you can manually adjust your preferences; see if your new card is still using factory standards, etc.
