Staying slightly on the character design topic while moving away from the creepy...
I started SMT by playing P3, then moved on to Nocturne. After getting my ass handed to me a couple of times this weekend in Nocturne (Trumpeter I think, could be Beelzebub, they all suck), I thought I'd make a start of P4 and wow, the art style really didn't work for me. The characters seemed really sort of stuck on top on the scenery and the wrong size. Am I alone in this? Was I high? Help me PA!
reposted cus it's on topic and doesn't include weird pictures (and cus i'm interested in what you guys think :P)
To expand slightly, I love the look of Nocturne in-game (to add some perspective to my tastes), most of my friends say it looks old-fashioned to them. As I said in my quoted post above, I feel P4 has characters looking odd and out of place.
Visually, I think all of the SMT games are pretty bland. Environments are repetitive and boring, character and monster design is typically pretty pleasing to me though. I haven't played Persona 4 yet, but I have played Nocturne, DDS, Devil Summoner and Persona 3. I don't think any of them looked all that great.

I have a similar problem with the visuals. While the character and monster design is great, and town areas are well-done, the dungeons can get very, very repetitive. I mean, Nocturne had some funky visual effects and all, but there's only so many identical corridors I can run through before I get sick of them. It'd be nice if there were more dungeons like P3's, where you actually traveled through different environments rather than neon-glowing corridors all day.

I'm at the last chapter in SMT:DS:RKvsTSA. On the upside, I'll be ready for SMT:DS:RKvsKA when it comes out, but this means I still haven't gotten to DDS or Nocturne yet. I have to admit I didn't really enjoy the gameplay in TSA all that much. Like most action RPGs, a base strategy of run in and keep hitting the attack button works for pretty much anything but bosses. Blocking, as usual, is also only required for bosses. It's not that the game was overly difficult or annoying, just not that great. The characters, setting, and story are more interesting and kept me playing. Hopefully the next installment will sort out those issues.
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

Old song was generic, boring, and terrible. Also permanently marred by being tied to the disgusting battle backgrounds of the original.
New song would actually be pretty good if the vocals were even passable. If they'd just scratched the vocals for a cello or something, it would be amazing.

Just what is it that avatar-Chie is freaking out about?
Guh. I did the second 100 demon battle (9th floor of the Training Hall) and my god I hope that the second game has a move to break guards. It was so annoying when those stupid Gasha-Dokuros would not stop defending so I could hit them. They would defend for 10 seconds at a time. Only I am allowed to do that!
That piano in the new battle music should've been turned down a little, it sounds out of place against the rest of the music. If it weren't for that, it'd make better battle music than the old or Dream of Butterfly
Jesus Christ stop making excuses and piss off already.
When two jailed guys with four letter names starting with "r" and ending with "t" agree completely on something, YOU SHOULD FUCKING STOP DIS
I get our posts confused constantly.
In more relevant news, I'm probably going to restart P4 soon, but not too soon because I'm not looking forward to that intro. It'll be nice to actually START the Hierophant link this time around, though.

It was better when you had your pony avvie and I had my VC combo av/sig
As an aside, I remember the first avatar I ever got was because someone confused my post for your, resulting in you going (paraphrasing) "Huh? I don't remember writing that."
Also, yeah seriously fuck that intro. Worst way to start off an RPG ever. I mean, having beaten it I realize why it was so fucking long, but it's still waaaaay too fucking long.
Question- should I get and attempt to beat P3: FES? I have a week and a half before I leave the country and be rendered incapable of any access whatsoever to a PS2. Mostly, I'm jonesing for more Persona.
So I know Devil Summoner's coming out in like a week or so but didn't know its Japan release was freakin' months and months ago until just now, so I decided to buzz Youtube to get a hear of the soundtrack.
Did they axe the Goumaden or something? I didn't hear anything Goumaden-y, and the whole Frankenstein-esque retro approach to demon fusion and management was nice. And there's just something to be said about blazing organs, SMT staple or not.
It's possible to beat The Journey in 60 hours (including Monad and getting to level 99) if you play really efficiently
Sounds about right. I managed expert in just shy of 70 hours. If you skip most of Elizabeth's Requests - the rewards for most of them are total shit, and there's no super secret final quest that is only unlocked by completing everything - you could probably lose ten hours of grinding, talking to every NPC and going to every area because you don't know what the fuck, and general tedium.
You can beat The Answer in around half an hour. If you can stomach the entirety of the introductory sequence, congratulations, you have won the game. Eject the disc from your PS2 and insert it into the nearest microwave.

You really have a penchant for hyperbole don't you?

You can always use a gameshark for 8x exp or higher so u can save time wasted on grinding.
I went back to EP last night, and realized I'm in an incredibly annoying dungeon. I'm in the Sumaru TV station of the nega-realm and I'm supposed to open these doors in a specific order, only someone switched the signs or something. I'm not sure if I'm going to try to figure out the puzzle or just look it up on GameFAQs. Probably the latter.

Anyone know if the PSP Persona portmake kept the old experience system or if it uses a more traditional one?

There's some impressions posted by someone at the Atlus MB who bought it.
General consensus seems to be that the new music is awful compared to the old.
But I love the new battle music, so who cares?

^The new map.
Much sleeker dungeon crawling.
Best improvement.
Love or hate it, new battle music:

And just for comparison's sake:

I do like them both (but, seriously, ENOUGH WITH THE ENGRISH), but if doing direct comparisons, I like the original more.

Also I agree with CJ that dream of butterfly would have been better suited. Man I can listen to that song all day.

It's a very special surprise.

Actually the high school system is related.

I think P4 took like 70?
I haven't played it in a year. I'm partially through EP and P3 now that I think about it.
That's a really bad habit.
