Oboro Muramasa -- Spiritual Successor to Odin Sphere
This was just released in Japan for Wii and is scheduled for some time this year in the US (and Spring 2010 for EU). It looks pretty awesome, replacing Odin Sphere's somewhat slower and clunkier controls for really quick movement and a few (slightly) different fighting styles depending on which weapon you're using. It's also super stylized as you'd expect from VanillaWare, although in very much an Eastern vein.
The basic system is that by doing defensive shit, your weapons erode and then break. Some boss attacks will instantly destroy your weapon. They regenerate somewhat quickly, but you're helpless without them. You get three swords at once though, at can switch between them more or less at will.
The real question is if it will have more originality.
I gave up on Odin Sphere when I was almost done with the fairy queen's chapter and I realized I was playing the same levels and fighting the same bosses over and over, just shuffled a bit.

There are (supposedly) only two characters, each with their own stories. Albeit with 108 swords to collect each.
