I want to install east-asian languages on my computer (running windows XP), but I don't have the installation disc. How can I do this?

Do you need the CD? I thought there was a download from Microsoft you install, or you just install it through Control Panel -> Regional Settings.

I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I've done it...

I think you're out of luck. Firefox comes with some sort of plugin that lets you read Japanese webpages even if you don't have the language pack installed though.

I ]recently encountered this mess after I entrusted a friend to reformat and re-install XP Pro on my laptop (it was a complete mess, there was no valuable data on it and I just wanted a do-over) but he neglected to check the box for East Asian Language support when he installed XP SP3 (the whole operating system, not just the service pack). My copy of Windows is legit, but OEM, and the only CD I have is for a different computer (also OEM) and for XP Pro SP2, and thus won't work because my machine insists that I need a copy of XP Pro Service Pack 3.

This is extremely frustrating. I've downloaded both the .exe and .iso redistributables for Service Pack 3 (just the update package, not the whole OS) from MS Update, but apparently the files I need are on neither. The internet as a whole, including Microsoft's own support forums, have been screaming for years about this stupid (stupid stupid stupid) error on their part. Normally I'm not too critical of Microsoft, but this problem is long-standing and it's absurd that they haven't bothered fixing it.

ATM I'm waiting for my friend to physically mail me the CD of XP Pro SP 3 he used, but I'm not sure if it was just an OEM copy that he registered with my sticker-code or a full retail version. I'm worried that if it's the former it still won't work, because I don't know how gimped OEM CDs are as opposed to Retail versions even when you have a legit, paid for code.

The only other option I can think of is to uninstall SP 3 and install SP 2, then try using the OEM CD I do have and see if it will magically work for reasons that are completely beyond me at this point. If that doesn't work I'm going to start calling MS tech support and screaming like a lunatic until they provide me with an actual solution to this problem, because I need to fucking access East Asian Languages IMEs for school you shitheads.

    Hoo-boy am I pissed.

You can no longer download the language pack. It comes on your system disks. I believe it is also on the Microsoft Office disks.
