My girlfriend is taking a trip to Houston and Vegas in a couple of weeks. The twist; with her parents. She's 18, and with parents so most of the fun stuff in Vegas is out, but I'm wondering if there is anything else that you fine gents recommend checking out? I know she plans on going to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, and seeing a few shows in Vegas. Other than that it sounds like shopping will be the main goal for her, but she'd like to get out and see some cool stuff while she's there.
In general I'm looking for mostly touristy stuff, places to eat, and any geeky stores I can ask her to visit for me.
The Galleria in Houston is the huge tourist mall that she'll probably want to check out.

Galleria is good for shopping, as is Memorial City mall. If you want geek, Bedrock City Comic Shop is straight down Westheimer past the Galleria, the best shop in the city. Or she could just go down Montrose and check out the artsy fartsy stuff.
Alley Theatre has some plays coming up
She could check out an Astros game at Minute Maid Park.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is always nice, and gets some good exhibits ahead of others.
The Museum district right next to Rice University/Medical District is also worth a trip.
Houston has a lot of good stuff in the city and surprises people when they come for more than a day.
If she wants some good Vietnamese food she should try Kim Son, it's got two locations downtown and is very, very good.
If she likes animals, the Houston zoo is pretty amazing. I second the museum of natural science, that place is great as well. I'm gonna have to plug Midnight Comics, it's right on Westheimer and Highway 6, pretty good place to go geek out for a bit if you feel the urge. The Galleria is also very nice, but it's expensive so watch your wallet. The ice skating rink is pretty cool, it's in the center of the mall on the bottom floor and it's a lot of fun to go skating there. Man, I miss houston...why do I have to be stuck in the Northeast, this place is boring
Thanks guys, all great advice, they weren't sure what to do with their time in Houston so this is a huge help! She's also wondering if there are any particularly great music stores in either Houston or Vegas that she can go to?
having grown up in vegas, i know there isnt much for <21's
shows are a great idea, and there are a few rollercoasters if she likes them ( Newyork newyork and the sahara)
we have a gameworks right on the strip near the mgm grand
circus circus has the adventure dome, which is an entirely indoor amusment park, worth checking out
if your willing to go a little farther from the strip we actually have a pinball museum, which is really cool and has pinball machines almost a hundred years old, all of which are playable

located at Richmond & Sheperd.
It's one of the oldest music stores in the city and kind of in a neighborhood. It's really neat.
