Borrowed HDDs and XBL gamertags

I know that if I get content on my hdd while it's in a different console I need to 'verify' my gamertag each time I use it. My question: does this also apply to free content? I don't have internet so I was going to take my hdd over a friend's house to download a demo that I'm anticipating.

    My experience has been that it doesn't need verification for free content. You'll be fine.

    Do you think it matters that you need a gold account for the demo? I have a gold account I can use to download it but I'm concerned that the delineating line might be blurred by the content "level".

    No idea. But it's free, so give it a shot.

    Common sense seems to say that the Gold-only restriction only applies to the download, and not the file once it's on your hard drive, though.

    free content is the same as paid content to your xbox.

    However once you have the demo downloaded it should work, even on a silver account. The gold restriction is only the download.
