I just got my first ps3, please inform me what games are must haves. I already have Valkryia Chronicles and designs on Little Big Planet. I am the clay in need of molding. Mold me my fellow penny-arcaders.
HDMI cable and a good tv/monitor. Then some good Blu-Rays. RE5 and SF IV if you don't have them already. But really, the first three things I mentioned are more important.
Uncharted if you like action and a great Indiana Jones style story
Ratchet and Clank Future if you like platforming and shooting and awesome fun times
Warhawk if you like online multiplayer shooters with awesome dogfights
Metal Gear Solid 4 if you've played the previous 3 games
Rock Band if you like music games and don't have it for the 360
edit: Hakuna Matata/Afrika if you like photography and animals (but you have to import it), Siren: Blood Curse if you like horror, Flower if you like relaxing artsy games (it's on PSN), Folklore if you like um... well it's hard to describe Folklore, check out some trailers
LittleBigPlanet is an obvious choice.
If you like puzzlers, there's Lumines on the PSN store.
There's also Burnout Paradise for very cheap if you don't already have it for the 360.
I have to make a suggestion nobody else made, though. If you're willing to import, Afrika is actually pretty damn fun. If you get it, get the chinese version called "Hakuna Matata" because it has an option for english language.
Oh, if you want the good version of Super Street Fighter 2 HD then I suppose you could get it. (I base this on the fact that the joypad on the PS3 is miles better than the 360's)

Uncharted if you like hiding behind cover and emptying half a clip of assault rifle ammo into every mook that bumrushes you.
Learn to aim for the head. Those headshot trophies exist for a reason.
I have the headshot trophies. 2-3 headshots per mook. There are tons of these guys. They must have used a cargo freighter for the bad guys to reach the final island, judging solely from the amount of bodies I left on it.
Edit: Look, I don't want this to become a bashing thread. It was a throwaway comment, and I apologize for potentially slightly derailing this thread.
My solemn suggestion towards Drakes: Uncharted is that it is a solid rental. You should be able to beat it easily in a rental cycle, and replays change little to nothing except for further increasing mook health and decreasing your health.
Just make sure you get the most out of your console, and not just games. Check out some Blu-rays, import all of your media from your iPod, connect to PSN to get some cool games or movies, etc.
Also, Motorstorm and it's sequel may be worth picking up if you like arcadey racers. You can pick up the first one for pretty cheap.
I know you have a 360, but you're doing it wrong if you don't own Fallout 3.
Honorable multiplatform-mentions go to Resident Evil 5**, Prince of Persia, Dead Space**, BioShock**, GTAIV, Devil May Cry 4** and Mirror's Edge**.
On PSN, check out
-Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty
-Echochrome**
-Fower
-Pixeljunk Eden ** and Pixeljunk Monsters **
-Siren: Blood Curse (again)
And of course there's the multiplatform goodness like
-Penny Arcade Adventures
-Mega Man 9
-Bionic Commando Rearmed
** = game has a demo.

Nice post, you win the thread. I am going to do some fancy footwork and get LBP and possibly Killzone 2 TODAY.
I have a few blue rays already as well, so I am enjoying the PS3 quite a bit already.
I got one myself a few weeks ago just for Cross Edge.
What the heck is up with LittleBigPlanet? People sing about that game constantly but every video I watch makes it look monumentally fucking dull. I have no interest in making my own levels or downloading other peoples, should I bother with it?
And isn't Valkyria Chronicles just a SRPG with neat camera work?

It's a pretty bad SRPG at that. I'm no LBP fan either but I guess it is fun to mess around with for a few minutes.

The pre-made campaign rivals Yoshi's Island in both quality and charm. And I guess this is just a personal preference thing but I can't imagine someone not finding the level creator interesting. It's like playing with legos on crack.
Several reviews, most say "DIGITAL IS DIGITAL LOL!" which is basically true. I haven't gotten mine yet so I can't speak on quality, but I think there are enough satisfied reviews to warrant trying it out.

-Afrika -Aquanaut's Holiday...same level of must have as Afrika from what I hear. My copy is arriving from China this week.

The "neat camera work" makes it a lot more accessible, IMO. I pretty much hate SRPGs, but VC was easily my favorite game last year.

I've only played the demo myself, but it did seem all kinds of awesome. The "neat camera work" does indeed make it a lot better. Honestly it's what makes the game fun.

The OP has some decent recommends in it.
I'd also through in the usual LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, and Ratchet & Clank.
Ratchet and Clank Future if you like platforming and shooting and awesome fun times
Warhawk if you like online multiplayer shooters with awesome dogfights
Metal Gear Solid 4 if you've played the previous 3 games
Rock Band if you like music games and don't have it for the 360

Forget it...
A lot of the good suggestions have already been mentioned, but in terms of FPS, it would be remiss not to mention killzone/resistance 2
And it's Little.
But also, it's Big.
And you need to buy it.

Yes, I have a 360 but the only games I keep around for it are RPG titles that are mostly 360 only.
I will be checking out Killzone 2 for sure, forgot about that one. Thanks again for all the advice.

Yeah I just got a PS3 yesterday actually, scored an HDMI cable off of amazon for $3 a few days before. Not really too hard to find one cheap.
Also, Motorstorm and it's sequel may be worth picking up if you like arcadey racers. You can pick up the first one for pretty cheap.

You can download (to keep) SD movies for 10-15 dollars, if I'm not mistaken. EDIT: you can also rent them, no clue on the price.
You can rent HD movies, but can't keep them, and I think they cost around $5 or so....
Also, do you like baseball?
If yes or kinda, get MLB 09: The Show.
It's a pretty bad SRPG at that. I'm no LBP fan either but I guess it is fun to mess around with for a few minutes.
MGS4 has a demo too, last I checked

The humor is a little forced and the story isn't grand, but it's one of the few games I actually wanted to go back through and play again.
