Diplomacy.
The board game of... diplomacy.

I have decided to GM a game.

You can find the rules book here.
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/prod/diplomacy

7 players needed

Communication in and out of the forum allowed (of course)

Players to agree on a turn time. Anyone not doing their orders will get to do nothing.

Please post the turn time you wish to have along with your manifestation of participation.

    I'm so down!

By turn time, I'm guessing you mean rate of time? I think a turn per day basis has worked here in the past no?

The hell does manifestation of participation mean?

I guess it means you want to play. And by turn time I meant the time you have to submit your orders to me. In RL it is 15 minutes. I have never played via boards so did not know how long...

Well, every 15 minutes might work when everyone is gathered around a tabletop, sure. But I dunno how well that would go down on the forums for a PBP. I mean, we might get a few rounds down, but people aren't gonna be able to stick around for that long are they?

    Of course not
Which is why I leave it up to the players to decide. 1 day is actually faster than what I was thinking.

boards usually run 1 day turns for the Mafia/phalla games Visiblehowl ran this on DnD and did twice a week I believe. It gave plenty of time for planning with people and setting up and backstabbing.

I would be glad to participate. Though my ideal turn would be a day or two. That gives us plenty of time to private message and create a more interesting game.

If you wanted to play a game for strictly this evening then 20 minutes would be good. I'm not familiar with how many turns this will take but that sounds like the minimum to organize with multiple people

Okay, seeing that I would personally prefer 2 days

I think set days each week (either MWF or MTh deadlines) might be best. And if you'll take people who haven't played Diplomacy before, I'd love to be in.

Er, can I request that the deadline be switched to sometime in the evening? 9am EST is 6am my time, which effectively means if I don't have my orders in the night before I'm not going to get them in.

Hmmm. I could say sunday/tuesday/thursday Midnight EST, but I won't be posting results until 10 or 11 in the morning. So I don't think it would actually change anything.

OK then I'll take submissions until tomorrow 9AM. I will make the game thread after that.

Still I'll not be making the thread until tomorrow morning, where I'll use the randomizer on interested people and countries.

For these sorts of things, I think an open sign-up period and then choose a group of players (via whatever method) is probably the best way to go. The sign-ups give you a show of overall interest, plus provide for potential subs in the event that a player is unable to continue in the game.

edit: You may or may not want to drop an announcement in the main boardgame thread. Up to you.

Thanks, I won't really have the time until around the 27th though.
And I know how anti-climatic it can be if someone quits at a key moment.
Being a reserve player is ideal for me.

I was just sitting here wondering to myself if I should start a Diplomacy pbp game. And lo, someone has done all the work for me already!

    Reserve up!

    Whichever is needed.

My original thought was to have MT be Spring and RF be Fall, with W and weekend the day to resolve everything and break, but that's just me.

Also, I recommend the rectilinear diplomacy map found at http://www.crockford.com/wrrrld/diplomacy.html. I use it for all my RL games and find it invaluable.

I will not tolerate bugbears that are not under my direct control! We Germans are a proud, Bugbearian race - all those bugbears who oppose us are blood traitors, and shall know my coming by the trail of the dead.

The people of Germania will only agree to such a plan if all nations deport their bugbear citizens to Berlin.
