PC speakers?

I've been using these Creative speakers for what seems like forever. I think I bought them back in, oh... 2002? It's an older 2.1 model. The speakers were pretty novel back then; they're flat.

Thing is, they don't sound all that great. They don't have any nice features, like heaphone/microphone inputs up front (not that those are terrible important), and they have this maddening volume control that's seperate from the speakers. The stupid thing has no weight to it at all, doesn't stay put, and is always falling off my desk.

I plan on building a new PC in a few weeks, anyway, so I figure this is a good time to upgrade. Sort of. Maybe downgrade? I don't want a subwoofer. If I want really good audio quality, I've got a pair of these. Besides, I live in an apartment. All a subwoofer is good for is pissing off the neighbors, and I don't want to be that guy.

I'm looking for a basic 2.0 set of speakers. But sound/build quality is hard to measure online, so I'd like some suggestions. They don't have to be cheapo crap, but I'm not spending $200 on them just because they're Bose, either. They're just going to be used for my PC & 360.

This may not be very helpful, but I have always run PC through my Hi-Fi. If you have one in the room anyway, it makes sense (if you have a spare input).

Since every small Hi-Fi my family buys ends up with a crapped out CD player after 2 years, there tend to be a few about. And the speakers are fine. SO I'd imagine something like that is easily found, and likely with relatively good sound compared to the computer speakers I've encountered.

I use these. They kick ass.

    Another listing, same model..

They also have a quite nice DAC onboard if you feel like hooking them up digitally.

If these are as good a deal as the higher-end models in the line they would also be a good choice.

Look into Audioengine A2s. They've gotten great reviews across the board and have a very small footprint.

I listen to music or podcasts on my Ipod, and play games with the sound turned low (mainly because I dislike repetitive game sounds) to partly mind the people around me as well. Who the heck really needs a pair of $200 speakers, when a $20 pair would do just as well for the majority of your needs?

    ...

Yes, I specifically said I wasn't looking for a set of $200 speakers.

Anyway, it's a non-issue. Already ordered the ones I want.
