So how can you tell which "server" you're on? Just drop a note and see if someone you're trying to co-op with can see it? I'd love to co-op the Maneater fight, but of course I'd prefer to play it with some of you fine folk.
Anyone up for some Chimera slaying this evening?
You can play with anyone else who has a US copy of the game. You're all using the same server(s). You just have to find some way of arranging a place to drop your blue stone so the other player can pick it up before anyone else does.
Good to know, thanks again Eight Rooks.
3-2 is fairly dark and has plenty out-of-the-way places to place a blue stones, so it should be fairly easy to coordinate a co-op entry point. Anyone else interested in co-op tonight? (I'm at like Soul Level 33-34). I have no problem switching from Soul to Body to Soul form again, as I'm pretty much drowning in ephemeral stones right now. So if anyone needs help in another area, I'd gladly kill myself after 3-2 to join your game
I'd be down, Carbon. What time/where/who's gonna be a soul? I'm on a pretty good streak for being a human right now..
Getting a bit frustrated with my soldier. Is anyone else not playing Royal?
I was playing the heavy armored knight type, worked pretty well for me until I decided that I gypsied my stats and stuff. I did lots of co-op, so..
Soldier is definitely heavy armored knight type, although the stats are more well rounded. Right now I'm switching between Bastard Sword 2 handed and Spear and Shield. I *think* can down the jackass with red eyes using turpentine, but not sure.
Anyone played a Thief? Is it actually possible to sneak up on people? I know with my Soldier even with the ring it's... not easy.

Yeah, you can dual wield. Shields if you want too!

Kas, sounds good. What's your soul level? I have no problem being in soul form (I was rocking in body form as well till the 3-2 boss), but I need to be in Body form at some point to clear the damn Maneaters. I'll even give you an extra ephemeral stone if you want to switch to soul and then come back (I want to kill those bastards that much :P)

"You dodged? You dodged? GOT'CHA! GENESIC.. EMERALD.. TAGER.. BUSTER!!"
Is it cheating to use the blue stone before bosses, so I can develop a good strategy against them? I did this for the first time against the 2-2 boss, and got my body back that way, then tried it myself (with another partner) and had a great deal of success (not to mention it was pretty awesome, in a very Monster Hunter-esque way.)
You don't lose souls when you're co-op via blue crystal, right?
Getting a bit frustrated with my soldier. Is anyone else not playing Royal?
I'm playing a Wanderer and doing fine. I fight with light enough armor to roll around in but hide behind a huge shield and generally fight with my falchion or bow.
The sweet ring the Royal starts with is not that hard to pick up:
In 1-1, if you save the knight, he gives you a telescope.
In the beginning of 4-1 (which isn't terribly hard once you get the hang of the skeletons, I 2-shot them with enchant weapon), if you go to the first gate and take a left inside and explore in that direction (I can be more specific if someone needs), you can climb a hill and a find a tree with a bird in it that wants to trade for your shinies. If you drop the telescope for him, he'll give you the ring when you come back/load the game.
Damn wish I had the US version now. Just platinumed my asian copy. Tower of Latria is hands down my favorite stage in the whole game. Cept for the 3-3 boss. Other than that great atmosphear cool level design fun... kinda frustrating enemies. Though I imagine that the flayers would be kinda easy with back up to stop them from face-hugging you.
Edit: You think if I took my asian copy up to gamestop to put toward brutal legend would the staff notice it's not the US version.
I used one Fire Spew (or whatever it's called, the first fire spell) on him to get his attention (took down like half his health, if i'm not mistaken) then finished him off with a couple good slices from my Falchion +2.
What spell? I went back to try him, soul light barely scratched him, he charged me, I died messily. Magic was at 26 or so.
Soul Light. I basically did the same thing I did with my Spear, only with magic. Walk up with shield up until he takes a swing or tries to shield bash you, move back and to the side while hitting R1, magic starts casting but you don't become stationary until you actually spurt the beam on out... If he doesn't get his shield back up in time, 90 damage. Took 3 hits to drop him -- he was charging at me during the narrow hallway, I just kept backpedaling while casting mostly.
Also, I was doing as much damage with my spear unblocked as he was doing with my spell blocked. So it was just a matter of time.
If you have your shield up and get close, he tries to shield bash you: If you're already moving away then you're safe and he's left wide open. When he attacks, just block and immediately start attacking/cast, you'll usually get one hit. Walk away while your stamina regens.
2000 souls isn't shabby. I'm going to save and try again as my soldier, this time setting fire to my spear.
(Spoilered for those who don't know the 1-1 farming method from the deluxe edition guide)
Or just introduce him to the stairs. It's a concept he doesn't fully grasp.
Fun story: I actually missed one of the torch guys lower in the tower on my way up for a Red Knight farming run last night. He jumped off a little ledge but lived, and I was too lazy to go fetch him. Fast forward to the Knight, and I successfully use the barrel trick to get him to fall. I hear a scream, and get 2k souls... followed by another groan and small green soul flash.
Yes, he landed on the other guy and killed him.
I love this game.
Unrelated question: does Enchant Weapon work on bows/crossbows?

So I get to the 1-2 boss (by accident mind you) and was crapping my pants at the thought of facing him. Ran up the stairs, took out all the archers and then magic'd his ass down from afar with little trouble. Magic to head > dodge > rinse > repeat.
So I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but...
I arrived at the Tower Knight, FINALLY having made it passed the dragon area. I wanted to turn back to spend my souls but instead I pressed forward into a fight =(
And I completely devastated the poor guy.
I am a soul 15 or so mage with 10 str and dex and a +1 scimitar and all the rest of my gear is what I started with (besides thief rings and the one that gives you 3/4 health in soul form). I thought I was in a lot of trouble...I enchanted my sword with sticky white stuff (terrible name!) after I killed all the archers and figured I was going to my death, 6k souls down the drain! I hit each of his legs about 2 times before he fell and then 3 large attacks and one or two weak ones completely destroyed him before he got up once.
I don't know if he's super weak on the first play through or just REALLY weak vs that enchant, but I thought I'd share. I was pleasantly surprised. Of course, then I couldn't get in the door right behind him but I'll worry about that later. Now I guess I need to go back and try to figure out how to kill the nesting dragons

Oh, Tower Knight's very easy with magic or a bow. Melee's not as hard as some make out, though.
Co-op'd Leechmonger with two other guys and tore him a new orifice in less than ten seconds. If in doubt, kill it with fire... all the first bosses down, whoo.

<AtlusParker> Sorry I'm playing Pokemon and vomiting at the same time so I'm not following the conversation in a linear fashion.
whats the difference between the import version and the us version?
The US version is largely the same as the Asian version patch 1.04, though 1) online is hosted on a different set of servers, so you can't co-op or PvP with people who have a different copy of the game, and 2) Atlus re-did a lot of the translation. All the items, menus and player chat messages were not so great, and they've been substantially tidied up and re-written.

So I now have a Scimitar +4 and am doing much better. Basically I'm running into 4-1, killing the 2 monsters at the start, then leaving.
When can I start learning magic and miracles, btw? I have to rescue some people I guess, they're in.. 2 and 3?
There are two stats that are key will and faith. Once you have one of these up high enough to get you a magic/miracle slot then you can learn them. Though you will need a talisman or catalyst to use them or the talisman of the beast works for both.
I'm very saddened that soul levels are now above 10,000 souls a point. When my roommate told me that he had perma-lost over 30,000 souls, I was thinking "Well, that's not much at all".
From what I've heard, it only gets bigger and bigger, too. But... I can't stop playing this. What a tensely relaxing experience this game's becoming.

The people that sell magic and miracles appear in the nexus after you clear 1-1. The miracle guy is behind where the blacksmith is, and the magic guy is off to the left if you are facing the pool with all the messages.
e: you probably know this already and were referring to something else.
Anyway, I'm getting tired of being randomly attacked by dragons.
Hm. I'm up to the point where I can take out everything up to the first fog door in 4-1. Might try getting past that damned dragon passage in 1-2 now.
You know what totally fucked me over with the dragon bridges of 1-2? I completely forgot you can run. I felt so stupid.
Also if you're really having trouble, buy a couple hundred arrows. Then go to the top of the tower after the first run past the dragon. Shoot him for 40 minutes as he swoops back over and over. Victory for you and the dragon is gone forever. I think you also need to do this for a trophy.
Those flying Stingrays on 4-1 really drives home the shitty targetting system. Haven't mentioned how much I hate it in a few pages, but yea. Don't make me fight Gold Plated skelly's - when you wont let me spells go off in enough time to bring them down unless they are directly overhead. . .and even then not assured.

That's one of the most annoying areas in the game, because it highlights some of the weakness in the lock on system. There is, however a shortcut that lets you skip all that if you want (and once you've seen that part of the level, I can't ever imagine wanting to go back). It's more like a glitch shortcut than the regular shortcuts from 1-1, 5-2, etc., and it's sort of hard to explain, so I'll just paste this in from the wiki (note that this is a great way to get the HP regenerating ring at the start of 4-1):
There's a shortcut to get to Adjudicator location from near the start of the level, but it requires carefull rolling. So make sure you aren't burdened before attempting it. You don't have to sprint at the wall, and some have done it from a standing start at the right place.
When you enter 4-1, and you encounter the two archers shooting from above the first fog door, there's a tower to the right that you can access by climbing the stairs in the left tower and going across the rampart where the two archers are. Remember, at the bottom of the right tower is where you pick up the copper key to free Blige, and there is a trap down there if you fall down. As you walk onto the top of this right tower from the walkway, you can go left around and down the stairs, or if you look right towards the far corner you will notice a part of the wall that is crumbled and is missing some blocks. From the top of the tower, if you run and then roll toward the broken part, you will land on top of the tower wall instead of falling onto the stairs. Sometimes you will see a message on the ground like "Run Here" , and sometimes people leave a message on the top of the wall where you should aim to land. Once you're there, look down and see where the wall below separates the starting area on the right (where you picked up the Talisman of God under the tree), and you can fall down to your left (down to where the HP regeneration ring is). This left path will take you right next to the area with the last staircase down to the Adjudicator (and it's a great way to rush the crystal gecko on the ledge).
