Nobody keeps ravenclaws because you're playing on wusscore.

But seriously, most people who power level have many more options than hardcore. You can get uber'd fairly safely, and nobody cares if you die there. Last I checked they had public ChaosANDBaal games going on.

Killing things and looking for phat loot. A rather misleading name since most valuable items are not magical or rare or unique.

It increases the chance to find magic items. For an over the top look at the subject see http://forums.diii.net/showthread.php?t=412453

Basically, the rule seems to be that when looking for uniques you get the stated benefit up to 200% and after that you get diminishing returns.

It amazes me the amount of knowledge people possess about games like this.

One of the reasons I stopped playing WoW is because I play games to relax and I felt like there was too much homework involved.

    That guide frightens me.

I'm building a meteorb sorc (because dropping flaming rocks from the fucking sky that crush and burn everything is FUCKING AWESOME), so at lvl 10, I mostly just use Nova to chill them while I'm whiffing away with my little pansy 4-6dmg orb.

Yeah. The easier rule of thumb is that the sweet spot for MF is around 200-250. The other thing to know is that the best bang for the buck boss if you are looking for loot is Mephisto.

Some builds like to max out block and they need dexterity. Most don't really go for block so the odds are you don't need dex.

Either base dex or 200ish dex for maximum block.

The big question for max block is "are you going to use a reasonable shield". A Spirit monarch requires 337 dex for max block, which is way too much. In contrast, an 'Eth' Visceratuant requires 217 dex. Other max-block options are Whistan's Guard (absolutely silly block rate), 'Sanctuary' Troll Nest (high res), both of which require ~200 dex or so, give or take 30.

In my experience, if you have a good connection, then you can rely on teleport and a good merc to save your ass most of time. So 156 str to equip a Monarch, and base dex.

So I still can't play for longer than 1 minute at a time without getting dropped from games. What gives? Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on with me? It keeps dropping me about a minute after I join a game (or create one) saying that my connection has timed out. It doesn't drop me out of battle.net completely though, and I don't think it is my router because I've played WC3 online since this started happening and I didn't have any lag at all, nor was I dropped from any games. I've tried restarting my router and Diablo 2... I'm all out of ideas, what gives?

One of my favourite memories of early Diablo 2 were the adventures of "Nakedbabe", a guy who was running (as I recall) a hardcore sorceress that punched things to death while wearing 0 equipment.

I seem to recall him dying a few times and being 'caught' in a screenshot or two wearing some gear, and thus restarting.

Yes. Spirits are not expensive: Nightmare countess will drop all the runes involved (Tal+Thul+Ort+Amn), and they're all pretty common. Early in Ladder it's actually pretty profitable to make lots and lots of Spirits and sell the 35% fcr ones.

Getting a single 4 socket Monarch is easy: follow a Chaos bot around and pick up a Monarch. Then talk to Larzuk.

A firewall issue, I daresay. What happens when you join other realms (test Europe)? Telnet to useast.battle.net:6112 and see what happens.

I'll bet it's an overzealous firewall cutting off the connection, though.

Lolz thanks for the image. I think it might be my firewall, I'll give joining other realms a shot to see how that goes. Weird thing is it never did this when I first started playing, and I haven't changed any settings on my firewall between then and now.

Edit - Ok, so I tried making a game on the Europe Realm and the same thing happened. It dropped my game and said my connection was interrupted, bringing me back out to the chat area. Does that still mean its a firewall problem, and if so, how do I fix it?

Quit diablo, look at task manager (assuming windows), and see if there's still a copy of diablo running. I think it may be called game.exe. Kill it, and try again.

Wrong error. That's the cause of the error when it says that your cd-key is in use :P

Firewall, yes. You said Warcraft III works, so I assume 6112 tcp in/out are both forwarded already. What about 4000 tcp out? Also, try turning off all your software firewalls (Windows Firewall, etc.) and router firewall features temporarily. I note that if you play fullscreen on XP you may miss the Windows firewall popup asking to unblock Diablo II....

Well... I just had it happen to me when I re-installed a couple months ago, so that's the error for "stupid thing that happens when the executable keeps running" at least some of the time. I never got the CD-key one (which is why it took me so long to figure out what it was for myself).

mcchris is a tool that had a good thing going, and decided he'd rather associate with pop-punk and was embarrassed about being "nerdcore" and started flipping shit at his fans.

All he's got left now are a few funny songs that are years old, and underage fans that only think he's cool because he raps about weed.

...sorry. I've had nothing but bad experiences regarding mc, ranging from a really shitty show to his blowoff of PAX08.

Which is why I'm going to name a hardcore necro "mcchris" and let him die against the first monster I find outside the rogue camp in act 1.

I'm just getting back into the swing of things, but there's a non-zero chance I might decide to stick with my Necro, ladder or not. I'm not in the running for anything on the ladder, so while losing out on some runewords (that I'm not making at the moment anyway, due to rune hoarding) might suck, it's still a character I've devoted enough time to that I'm warry of re-rolling.

Also, it'd be a nice perk for those who wished to keep playing their now non-ladder characters; you lose runewords, but gain a respec!

If you were booking acts for PAX, would you invite back a guy that ditched after you'd already booked him? I certainly wouldn't.

And the show I went to sucked. mc came out way late, put on a half-assed show, it was 120deg, nothing but annoying stoner teens wall to wall. Best part of the show was FSR opened.

I don't care about the characters I have now, I care about the characters I'm going to have. A skill respec is something that D2's needed for a long time, in my opinion, and has been shown through third party mods (along with shared stashes) to be something the engine is not incapable of delivering on.
