Kissing Gourami tank mates

I have two kissing gourami's in my tank right now and I'm looking to add a few more fish. I'd like some advice and suggestions on what type of fish would be good to have in the same tank with the two I currently have.

Thanks! :-)

    Depends on tank size.

I'll assume it's around neutral PH and mid 70's for temp.

Since they are mid/top level fish, they likely won't pester your bottom feeder types:
    Pleco (everyone loves a pleco!)
    Loach (Love clown loaches)
    Cory

I could see a speedy group of tiger barbs or tetras to fill out the upper level of the tank.

Do you have any live plants at all?
Since gourami's arent super agressive and they like typical tropical type water, you have a lot of options depending on tank size.

I actually do have a lot of live plants in there. I keep on having to buy new ones though because the Gourami's keep eating/ripping the plants apart. But I don't mind too much.

I have a 30 gallon tank, so I was thinking something like a Neon Tetra but the more I read about having those two fish in the same tank, the more I think the Gourami's are going to eat the Tetra's. But I'm getting mixed reviews. Some people say its going to be fine and others say the Tetra's will be eaten. LOL!! I don't know what to believe!!

Well, you have two of them, are they ever aggressive to each other?

Also, eventually, 30gal tank will be too small for the 2 gourami's as they can get fairly large.
They may become agressive later on when the tank space is limited for their size. But I think if you have a group of tetra's or barbs they should be fine, though barbs can be kind of nippy if there aren't enough of them so keep that in mind.

You could also consider some of the more docile cichlids.

no pleco's for a 30gal tank, they get much to big much to fast.

There are smaller varieties that would be well suited for a 30 gal.
Clown pleco comes to mind. They would look neat next to a clown loach(can get kinda big), similar color variations

A good aquarium shop will take fish that have gotten too big off of your hands; you'd probably get trade/store credit for something like a pleco. Check with your local specialty aquarium shop to be sure.

From what I understand I think pleco's will grow depending on how much room they have.

I would also like to suggest a clown loach, especially since you mentioned you buy live plants for your tank. I foresee a snail infestation in your future, and clown loaches love snails, I would say maybe even more than french people.

Bigger neon or cardinal tetras would be fine with gouramis, especially in a well planted tank. You'd need a school of them in there, but they look really really pretty swimming in and around the plants.

They cast a shadow like a sundial in the morning light. It was half past 10.

Okay well I got rid of the pleco and the fish are happy again. I think I'm going to wait to get another fish. Maybe get a bigger tank before I get more fish.
