Well they opened with "Underneath the Stars" and I loved it, "Lullaby" is one of my favorites and "Out of this world" is the first song I ever heard from them, which I really digged.

Color me disappointed when I listened to their "Greatest hits" album and found out it was pretty much all happy lively music (With sad lyrics)...

So, what songs/album should I be looking into for this darker side of the band?

Pornography is one of their better albums.

I was first interested in The Cure when someone compared them as being "a rival gang to Cocteau Twins", so that can give you an idea what I'm shooting for :P

    Disintegration.

I believe it is statistically responsible for 57% of all suicides in the 18-29 age group for the years 1989 through 1994*

I was disappointed by them. Doubly so because I left Public Enemy to catch them. I left after about half an hour.

Disintegration is definitely one of my faves, you can also try out Bloodflowers, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Wish.

Disintegration is one of the best rock albums. Ever. Seriously. And buy it so you can rip it to FLAC and play it with the volume up instead of getting mp3s—there’s a ton of subtle sounds buried in the mix.

I've always liked the Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography trilogy. They're all very minimalistic compared to their later records when they're just started layering the sound quite heavily. Seventeen Seconds is all sad and melancholy, Faith is just bleak and Pornography is a bit heavier and kinda angry. But if you want the darker side, then Pornography is probably a must.

Outside of that Disintergration, Wish, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and the Head on the Door are probably the better albums. I didn't take much to Bloodflowers, or their self titled album and I haven't picked up the new one.

Join the Dots is actually a pretty good catchall to get, it's their rarities and B-sides album, a lot of them better than what ended up on the albums.

Sweet, these are all good recommendations, thank you guys!

Nimble cat, I left after Lullaby, I was really tired though I regret it now. I can't stand rap/hip hop though :P

I can't say I was crazy about their set, but atl east they were doing greatest hits rather than an album tour for a not-very-good album.

Did you listen to my bloody valentine or throbbing gristle? you might like them too.

Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. Has some of their great songs, including their two saddest One More Time and A Thousand Hours.

and if you're specifically searching out "depressing 80's music" you might also enjoy the smiths. i'm pretty sure you're already familiar with at least one of their songs.
