Race 16 Dead. The main difference (besides more survivors) is there are no winners. If you manage to make it past the two dozen witches, (literally) endless hordes, occasional spawns of 5 tanks and a boomer in your face, and actually make it to the end... your reward is a "safe" room filled with witches. And if you kill them... well. I guess you could win, unless either Roland or I notice and respawn the witches.
The Director ain't got nothin' on us.
I haven't actually seen the director do his fucking job in a very long time. Team getting rolled until they ragequit? WHO CARES!? Let's throw another witch at em with no T2s or heals.
Then when it's our turn, we slaughter them and get rewarded health and nades.
Seriously though, wasn't the director's sole purpose is to even it out, so it doesn't become uneven and/or bland?
The Director has moved over to TF2 were his sole purpose is to stop you getting a huntsman.

Kind of the opposite really, it's stacked against the team that are survivors first. The infected get the element of surprise first time around, then they know exactly where everything is when it's their turn.

Oops. Yeah. That's what I meant to say.
It's supposed to be stacked against the team that goes survivors first. They're winning. Thus, it's a little harder for them.
Most of the time, this doesn't matter much. Good teams can tell the tank is coming a mile away thanks to the music. Witches also aren't much of a problem thanks to the autoshotty (and any team that gets itself ambushed around the witch deserves to die anyway ). Plus, you should already know the various spawn points for weapons and grenades and have a set plan to scout them out without slowing you down.
Competitive mods do it right You get a tank every round at the same location for each team, a witch in the same place for each team, same placement of weapons, grenades, pills, and health packs. It's really quite good.
Same weapon spawns are stock. I don't think there's even a way to make grenades, pills, and health packs spawn in the same spots or even to equalize them. Not yet, at least. Health packs are turned off to compensate for this (as well as to make the game a lot more interesting). I don't think pills and grenades will be equalized, either, as it would make it so much easier for the second survivor team. I think as far as that will go is maybe making sure that if one team gets a molly before the tank, the other team will as well.
edit: Also, in CEVO at least, teams go in an ABABA format, so survivor/infected first advantages are fairly evened out.
I just hope Valve keeps the competitive shit out of the normal server pool, so that me and my friends can still enjoy hijinx-filled L4D with all its random hilarity.

I think most teams keep their servers private so there shouldn't be any worry.
Hmm. Tried a a L6D coop earlier where either Roland or I were a director... and even after turning off the director through the commands, he kept butting in. I mean Roland and I were cruel, but he'd just toss salt into your wounds.
And I like my idea of witch traps. Oh look, medpacks and pipebombs over in a corner. Let me just heal here...
I really think Roland and Mandalore would be better directors than the director. For one, they want everybody completely dead, not just barely walking. That alone sells me on the idea.
When one plays as the director, is the line of sight limitation still in place like in vs?
When you play director, the world is at your disposal. You have nothing to bother you, no silly limitations or rules. You do what you want, when you want.
The best way to play director is to just fly around like a birds eye view RTS. You can make things spawn in a certain location if you want, like having a medpack and guns laying around near a witch.

L4D Tournament Finals
Area 51 Gaming vs Exigent
Despite the fact that the tournament website, L4DDER.COM, has been down for weeks, the teams still want to play out the finals. Talk about good sports. A51 and Exigent have scheduled to play out the finals on Monday at 8:30PM EST to see who would have walked away with the $500 cash prize (now $0).
Go to www.pwnage.tv at the time of the match and click on the broadcast tab to view the match. Also visit #pwnage.tv in irc.gamesurge.net or irc.quakenet.org for shoutouts and discussion of the match.

Wait, why is the prize now 0? did it take all the money to fix their makeshift site or something? That's kinda lame.
Yeah, the good/evil director is a neat concept, but it'd require many, many rules. If a director wants the survivors dead, they're dead. Theres nothing you can do five tanks and 10 witches spawned directly ontop of you. And the good director would be limited, too. Either he's allowed to give them a constant supply of pills and able to block off entrances, (making it impossible for the zombies to get close) or hes limited to the point of mostly just watching.
Balance is best. Sure, you guys can have three medpacks. They're right next to those three witches.

Yup. Just change the tank spawn chance to 100% and turn off medkit conversion, and you've pretty much got it.
And I like my idea of witch traps. Oh look, medpacks and pipebombs over in a corner. Let me just heal here...
Is anyone interested?
I'd be interested in trying this too.
DONT TELL ME TO PLAY ZOMBIE MASTER
hehe, unfortunately no.
Ok, someone send me a PM so we can try to set up a time for this.
Toss fire, shut door, bake at 500 degrees until witches are cooked thoroughly through?
Well sure, if you want to be a bitch about it.
Although with their directoring, you might just find 40 when you open it the next time.

Seriously, have you seen these videos? I've seen better matches from race4dead rounds on a pubstomp.
And GOD I will never watch any of those again if the stupid commentators are back again.
that would be interesting. One sets up zombies and such, while the other sets up weapons, medpacks, and pills.
The issue is that it's quite hard to do anything about the fact that, every game, it'd be "MILLION-ZOMBIE DOGPILE" and "POOL FULL OF PILLS".
