So next wed I'm travelling down to London to have an illustration masterclass with Dave Gibbons! Major whoop! But my mp3 player's library has become a bit neglected and I really need some solid recommendations to make the travel go a bit smoother.

Things I Like:

Muse
Eels
Coheed & Cambria
Prodigy
Death Cab for Cutie
Bat for Lashes
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Queens of the Stone Age
Decemberists
The Arcade Fire
Rasputina
System of a Down

...that's all I can think of right now. Any suggestions?

Pandora doesn't work over here unless you are creative with vpns as far as I know.

Ive been using last.fm and getting good results!

I don't have much to explicitly recommend besides:
    The Postal Service
    Franz Ferdinand
    The Strokes

    Any of Mike Patton's bands:

    I personally recommend;
    -Mr. Bungle
    -Faith No More
-Lovage (my god, Lovage is spectacular, makes you tingle in all the right places)

For electronic stuff I'd give Chemical Brothers and Photek a listen and go from there.

Last.fm is probably your best bet though. It'll play 100's of different artists based on what you put in. There's a lot of good music out there and last.fm and pandora are the best ways I've ever found to discover more of it.

This is a great song, by a great band:

    VAST - Touched

Though ignore the movie... Fuck I think I'm going to post the song without some shitty AMV on youtube soon.

thanks for all the suggestions so far! Yeah Pandora doesn't work here too well thanks to copyright laws- lets you play a few and then tells you to bugger off if you're not American last time I tried it. Will definately be taking a look at last.fm, haven't tried it before.

A lot of suggestions of bands have been ones I've head on mix cds, gone "ooh this this good" at but not looked into further, which is probably a good sign (Someone still loves you Boris Yeltsin, The Strokes, Faith no More in particular) Franz Ferdinand I'm sort of on-off about, though I picked up their latest and I like quite a bit of it.

Will be looking into those recommended. and trying last.frm, thanks!

    Try killswitch engage.

Or would that be too hard?

While I don't like them (death to false metal), they might actually be your bag for "hard" stuff.

    Wait. False metal? Really?

Well, they are nu-hardcore-something other than metal-metal.

I've seen them live and I've listened to them quite a bit, so I'm not just trashing them for no reason. I guess a better way to describe my opinion is "I don't actively like/dislike them."

Silversun Pickups have a new album out, Swoon, that's really good.
