So after living in Boston for 4 years and being chained to the MBTA I've finally gotten my first real job and am now able to buy a car. With a little luck I'll be getting one today, a used Yaris 3 door hatchback. While this is my second car the first was purchased from the dealership of a family friend and I got a great deal and didn't have to worry about them screwing with me. So this is my first time buying from a dealership so I'm sticking to certified pre-owned Toyota dealerships that I know (think) I can trust. I'm bringing the boyfriend, but he knows about as much about cars as I do so we'll see how helpful he is.

The T isn't that bad, but nothing compares to being totally free of public transport when you need to be.

The only thing I've tried when buying a new car is financing it at a bank, and then going to the dealership and saying that you're going to pay cash. It forces them to remove around ~20% of the bullshit they give you.

Hmm, I would think one of the nice benefits to offset the horrible shit winter weather of Boston, would be not having to pay to own a car, as the transit system has been described to me as being fairly good.

The T is Boston is awful and now they want to raise fares again and cut back service. This includes eliminating some bus lines and all commuter trains after 7pm and on weekends. They also plan on messing with some of the subway lines, and the green line I live on comes every 15 minutes on average as it is so making that less frequent while making me pay more sucks.

have you guys heard the story of that guy who wanted really bad to drive trains when he was a teenager

so he'd sneak onto the subway train, lock the door and drive it

he did it so well that the people on the train had no idea

he was arrested for it like six times but the judge just kept letting him off because he thought it was funny

I like to imagine that this was my friend Justin.

He is twenty-two, and in school for civil engineering, and he still has a train set in his room, with all the bullshit still working, bridges and switches and shit. Motherfucker loves trains.

to be fair, I don't like fast-food subs in general.

I'd rather go to a local place where the food is (almost) invariably better

and you can get really good sandwiches at places like Panera Bread

In a city like ours there's no reason to eat at Subway or Quiznos.

Remember when you were young enough to make riding on a train a magical experience and you kept waiting for George Carlin to come around wearing a cool hat, instead of riding a train being a stupid experience where you're shoved between families of fat tourists who don't know how to fucking stand on the standing side of the escalator?

    Good times.

We take history way too seriously. It's how we justify every thing that is old and in desperate need for updates/demolition that we can't afford to do.
