Acting like there aren't dozens of miles of squalor surrounding Mexico City is a disservice to those living in that squalor.
ok now you're being an ignorant douche
common sense tells us that if the people that had died were living in squalor and already malnourished and unhealthy, the WHO would have already taken that into account and there wouldn't be much of a mystery
but no, because it's Mexico let's just assume they're living in squalor and it's just a normal flu that killed some people that were just vulnerable because of their living conditions
that makes much more sense
For fucks sake Dru, which straw man is that last paragraph directed toward?
and how did your previous comment have anything to do with what I said? I never denied that there are some very impoverished areas of Mexico. Absolutely true. But it's amazingly idiotic to wonder if the WHO is expressing concern over a possible epidemic that killed people that were just a bunch of broke ass, malnourished peasants.
Like I said, the WHO would have taken that into account if it was likely to be a significant factor in their deaths. The reason Americans haven't died from it yet probably has much more to do with the simple fact that there have been far more cases in Mexico than in the U.S.
We do not know why people have died in Mexico, and not elsewhere, according to federal officials.
Mr. LB wondered if it might not be due in part to the very real situation of poor living conditions in Mexico.
And you flipped shit, and now we're here. I'm out of cigarettes and now I have to go. PEACE YA'LL!
yes, AND I EXPLAINED WHY IT IS A STUPID THING TO WONDER
you've created a doubly subjective set of categories basically
Muse are terrible lyricists. I don't really know if they take themselves seriously or not and I don't care. I sure do like listening to their music though!
thank you fallout that is what I wanted to articulate but couldn't find words for.
When I think about how "seriously" fleet foxes or animal collective take themselves I can't help but fucking laugh
believe it or not most of the members of hardcore bands are normal decent guys making music they like.
i hear that
or when i listen to a good, cheesy power metal band, and someone says "omg are they serious???"
well... sort of? what does that mean? they're not sitting in a cave brooding about goblins or anything, but they're also not going "LOLOLZ HAHA DRAGONS!! HOW GAY IS THIS SHIT??"
or, like, take this video by the gods that are Impaled Nazarene
you're drawing distinctions between bands and their attitudes towards their music based solely on your like or dislike of their music
if you were some kind of music producer who observed these bands in the recording studio and saw them working through the process and writing lyrics and testing music and interacting with one another, okay, your opinions could have some credence
but personally, I've seen a lot of indie bands in concert and most of them are pretty likable, casual guys who take their music pretty lightly (not too lightly, because that bugs me too)
meanwhile hardcore guys seem to get pretty douchey and elitist about ways to act, both at their shows and in regard to their music
stop acting like you are stating these facts that everyone knows because they're just so obvious
thank you fallout that is what I wanted to articulate but couldn't find words for.

"911, hi, listen, my balls are stuck in a chair, can you send an EMT, thanks, oh and uh, would you mind not turning on the siren and making it as quiet as possible. yeah thanks. make it look like something awesome, like some shark fought me and lost."

You mean they actually take their lyrics serious?
no you're the stupid thing
Not I said the fly
It's hilarious.

give me an example of this band that DESERVES to have their lyrics taken seriously by all
and when did this great divide form in pop culture where things are only hilariously ironic or deadly serious
thank you fallout that is what I wanted to articulate but couldn't find words for.

I'd be concerned if you started to think I was smart
Well, there are 4 categories.
Bands with -
good lyrics that take themselves serious.
good lyrics that don't take themselves serious.
bad lyrics that take themselves serious.
bad lyrics that don't take themselves serious.
Number 3 is the tragic one.
Muse are terrible lyricists. I don't really know if they take themselves seriously or not and I don't care. I sure do like listening to their music though!
go wear a cardigan, faggot
Not my native language
And no edit button
oooh ice burn
no but really you are the champion of the internet, ready to right the wrongs of a city gone mad.

Where the hell are you from
I never got an answer to this
I don't even know
Estonia
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Germany.
I seem to mention it like twice a week.

in the video they cock their guitars like shotguns while a finnish porn star washes down a hearse
they're not saying "lol this is so gay look at how ironic we are"
but they're also not like "Yes, this is a pure expression of the innermost contents of our souls. Lo and behold!"
they're rocking out and doing awesome shit and they don't give a fuck
its about the music, faggots
whatever

the worst part is now everyone knows his testicles got trapped in a beach chair
there should be a law about these things staying on the DL
see, that's the kind of attitude towards music that I like, and the kind that most of my favorite bands have
you can think something is cool or neat without thinking it is the panacea to the unwashed plebes of the music industry
you can be aware of the goofiness or the flaws in the music you write without purposefully satirizing them
I think you're quite smart Dru. How does that make you feel?
I don't like going beyond the music and saying that one type of musician is superior to the other.
I just got hot and bothered and was defending hardcore a little over zealously
probably like taking a shower so he can wipe the lipstick off his ass
exactly
i think people who worry about whether a band is serious or not need to just relax
it kinda disgusts me, too
it's only one short step away from "oh, I didn't like them until I found out they were being ironic"
but what does "take themselves serious" mean
also that's wrong and you have a curious perspective on this topic
Actually I am just talking out of my ass.
i know
yeah, shit like that betrays a loyalty to a scene or a look rather than an actual interest in the music
for guys like that it's... just, please, kill yourselves
eat a bullet
music is about the music
It's just, "do you like them because they're on the radio all the time or because you think they have good music?"
This is what distinguishes a fan, not some stupid "we were here first" bullshit
