I got some hate mail from a Fei Long player about how my devastating Chun-Li fireball trap was super cheap. My one fireball that goes the whole screen deals RIDICULOUS chip damage.

Just lost a super close match against a Blanka. Game seems to be determined to make me eat my words, I've been playing a bunch today and yesterday. I maintain he's not that bad!
Chun Li has a fireball trap? Or is that sarcasm?

I had some due hate mail me because he got hit with Chun's ultra through fireball twice in two rounds. If you see that Chun has an Ultra, don't go around spamming fireballs. :P

Super sarcasm. What would I trap someone with on jump in? Standing roundhouse? Come on. Was just zoning the guy because I was ahead on life and I'm just not going to run gleefully into his arms to finish the fight. I'll wait for Fei Long to come to ME.

how dare you play the game properly!

Most irritating cross-up in this game is C.Viper's ability to cross you up from anywhere and the side it hits is determined entirely by the button she decides to push.

Most irritating cross-up ever is still Super Turbo Bison where the side changes depending on if he hits mk or hk, and if you guess wrong, you get hit with a combo that does 50% damage and dizzies.

I'd love a link to a vid of that Bison combo :).

I think my Gen faced your Bison once or twice. Your Bison was pretty good

Biz has a really nice Bison. His HK pressure makes me afraid to do anything, that thing has the weirdest hitbox. I also learned not to use FA so much against him, I always end up paying for it.

Uh...it does 50% damage, if not more. I actually think it's closer to 60%. All I know is that if it hits, it's game over because the dizzy follow up will kill you.

It is in Super Turbo. It's basically game over after he hits that. Dizzy + combo again without scaling.

Worst loss ever. I time the ultra perfectly to punish this Ken's hadoken. Instead he whiffs the move and throws out a regular fierce punch. I lose because he's bad at this game.

    Boxer vs. boxer

I have 1 chip damage of life left, he has like 20%, I have ultra and we are full screen apart. He's waiting for me to close in order to chip me. I whiff a jab headbutt. He does an ex rush punch on reaction. I answer with an Ultra from retaining charge on the headbutt. I win. yay.

I thought about that and if so he is a diabolical genius. He perfectly bluffed the crouch and everything then! But I doubt it. I have yet to find one player who I can definitely say "yep, he baited that" with a fake hadoken. Plus he'd done the jump away fireball so many times...

That's awesome...I have kind of a similar story that happened a while back.

I was Blanka fighting a Boxer, we go 1-1 and down to the final match. I have just a small amount of life left and he goes for the chip win with his ultra. I know I'm fucked and I got one chance, I don't even know if it's possible: in between his punches, I do my ultra for the KO. I think one more blocked punch and I would have been toast.

Good stuff. Just ran through my first tournie since beating that GP bug and I won it. Even got to upload so check it out PSNers. Not my best fight by any means, but that's what 5 days off will do to you. A pretty aggressive Guile which can be a difficult match up for me. A wins a win, that's all that matters.

Hopefully that's a sign of good things to come and I'll start working my way up tonight.

What is the deal with all the Guiles out of the woodwork. Haven't seen him at all through ranked or player matches, I must've fought at least 6 or 7 different ones in the last week. They all were turtling turtletons though.

I had a video uploaded last night of my horrendous playing. Some dude using Seth that did nothing but jump back+FP and sonic booms, and then whenever I tossed a fireball would wall jump+HK > MK and then jump back+FP. So satisfying when I beat him by catching him with Chun's ultra during one of his jump backs. Ended up fighting him immediately afterwards again for 1st battle and lost (I was just bored of dealing with his shit, I hate having to chase after people).

I need to add Grove to my list, I enjoy seeing what my fellow PA peeps are doing via replays and spamming beautiful remarks during Ah_Pook's Vega fights. :)

ive run into a lot more random characters in tourney mode. i guess taking out counterpicking and not losing points opens things up a little. you do still run into huge amounts of the the regulars, but ive run into a bunch of abels and guiles, some sakuras, a couple dhalsims and gens, a rose, even a fei long. oh and a lot of fuertes too. i played this 5000gp range fuerte and it was probably the most brutal beat down i have recieved in this game to date.

    That article is from February.

So, I don't think it's as a response to the CE update.

No I don't mind at all, the more people it helps the better.

Oh and Pook, do you use a stick or pad? The reason I ask is because I don't have a stick yet and as a result I am pretty much unable to perform Vega's EX wall dive into an opponent when not in a corner. I've tried to figure it out on a pad but it escapes me.

If I can work that into my game I feel I can really start dominating since I win nearly 80% of the time even without using it. Mostly I use it to fake EX sky high claw attacks to mix things up.

My understanding is on the upward motion, you either hit up-forward or up-back to pick a wall, but I always seem to go to the opposite wall regardless.

For whoever had a problem blocking crossups, here is the explanation that worked for me: He's basically jumping over you and, while still airborne, kicking you in the back of the head. So, it's your back you need to protect and you need to block high.

That means that if you suspect a crossup, press whatever you considered forward (not down-forward) at the moment he left the ground. You should block it.

Dunno, for me it took forever to not block low in that situation.

Yeah I'm kind of bummed about not having a stick, but I do well enough. The shitty thing is I've only got like 3 or so weeks left to play SFIV regularly. I've got back to back movies that'll last till November:( That means I'll be able to play only on the weekends, and even then I'll be too exhausted and you guys will have surpassed me by a great deal. Oh well, at least I should have a TE stick when I start back up.

Yeah it's pretty much just that. Up-forward and up-back decide which wall you go towards. The down charge direction doesn't matter.

df. rh->ex barcelona->izuna drop and cr. jx2, cr. mp->ex barcelona->izuna are his best bnb's and both require you to go towards the opponent with barcelona. For the first one, you hold down forward as the charge, press rh kick to do the little hop kick juggle and then press up forward to do the ex bar->izu.

I use the 360 d-pad (modded) and they come out reliably.

I usually go into that matchup with some mad mad pressure. I'm not going to win the fireball war so I just gotta keep him going. Lots of quick crossups and short hasan shus. And then just randomly stop. He'll take the shot to flash kick and then you can start it up again.

Well I just need to stop doing it. Mostly because chun can't really punish guile's sonic booms because their recovery is so fast. I usually switch to a fireball war when playing other character as a way to bait them into her ultra. If I start a war with guile I just have to wait out the clock :(

You can (usually) sub a RH.scarlet terror in place of an izuna drop (edit: or a short scarlet terror -> ex.scarlet terror if you want the stun, but it's going to cost a meter and end up doing the same or less damage than RH.scarlet terror followup). It can be character specific though or just plain whiff. Too many links before and you tend to whiff on crouching guys.

RH.scarlet terror hits fine after a df.rh though for only like 10 damage less (10 damage more than ex-izuna followup if you EX scarlet terror, but you have worse wake up positioning).

Also note, cr.jabx2 -> cr.mp are ALL 1 frame links, and you can't plink the jabs (AFAIK)... so uhhh, have fun with that. You're a lot better off trying for cr.mk -> cr.mp (or cr.jab) which is a 2 frame link that you can plink.

Yeah he's pretty boned. i can get some combos going, but really it's about stick and move...at least my style is. I find it to difficult to utilize standard pressure with Vega so my "combos" generally consist of many unanswered hits coming from a lot of directions that don't link. I then put distance between me and my opponent and let them think about it for a bit, seems to work pretty well.

The sad reality with Vega, with me at least, is I can't keep people locked down. My entire game is mind games and evasion.

Edit: The bonus of all this is I've become pretty damn psychic against most characters and really good at estimating how long their animations will lock them down in regards to a wall dive. Psychic scarlet terror seems to be pretty demoralizing against most opponents.
