It's summer, kind of.

So after a really shitty New England winter Boston has completely bypassed Spring and moved right into Summer as we're looking at our second straight day of 90+ plus today. People are already going to the beach and planning vacations. I finish classes on Friday, start my new job Monday and don't start earning vacation days for 90 days so its doubtful I'll be doing anything awesome this summer but surely some of you have some plans. I plan on living vicariously through you.

Spring's my favourite season because everything is gradually getting warmer so you don't need a jacket anymore and you can start wearing shorts again and you get those great breezy days. Summer just feels a bit stifling in the city.

the humidity is the worst down here. like, I've been to Texas in the summer: really not that bad, because it doesn't feel like there's a wet towel wrapped around your head the whole time

In other news, this is an awesome A Cappella cover of Brick from Ben Folds

I can never understand how Chicago can get so humid and hot while getting so goddamn cold all within the same year.

    It doesn't seem natural.

this is because the devil lives in Chicago

Back in 1837 he incorporated it on condition of always having fucking insane weather, so your eyelashes break off up til mid-March and then summer is spent wondering if it's possible to drown in your own sweat, and eyeballing the water at North Beach because it can't be THAT filled with dead fish and industrial waste and human pee, right?

That said, I have yet to make summer plans beyond teaching little kids English, taking Korean classes and squishing my birthday in there somewhere. There will be a pinata of some sort, and possibly a trip to Hong Kong or Shanghai. Then it's back to the grind until I'm officiating my friend's wedding in early September.

The one benefit summer brings to us is that you can walk across the grime-encrusted surface of the Thames and save quit a lot of time on your commute.

No really, it'd be cool if we found a place where weather still works on a regular 3-months-a-season basis, and it's hot when it's hot and cold when it's cold.

    Any thoughts?

    I <3 pinatas

I know! Usagi quoted Three Amigos a few days ago and suddenly I realized that it was the PERFECT ITEM to have at my birthday.

As for walking across bodies of water without the aid of miracles, you could walk across the smell of some of the streams here. It's like a solid entity you stagger into helplessly and all you can do is avoid touching your eyes while you stagger frantically toward safety. It doesn't save you any time commuting, though, because you still have to wrestle through all the motorcycles on the sidewalks.

I just bought a car and the first thing I tested was the AC. Granted I won't be stuck in traffic much because I live in the city and work outside the city so I'm doing a reverse commute of the vast majority of people.

If you go to a target or a walmart, they tend to have New Year 2009 pinatas for pretty cheap that you can redecorate yourself.

Shit yes, fuck people parking their motorcycles on the sidewalks. It's not a fucking bicycle, don't park it like one.

I love my bike! I'm too skeered to ride it in Seoul so far, although I biked to and from work in downtown Chi all the time.

I am sadly an ocean away from a Target or Walmart nowadays, but worst case scenario I can make my own out of papier mache and cleverness. I predict it will look something like a hollow lump of newspaper, covered in spray paint.

Yes, yes I do... and now that I have a car I won't have to experience that this summer unless I need to go downtown for some reason.

Added: Before and after games I now also get to avoid suburban tourist Red Sox fans who have no idea how to use public transit.
