How about we drug her, put her in one of those dream-stealing devices from City of the Lost Children, and then just copy the character designs from there? Everyone cool with that?
Guys, Wayne Allwine, the man does the voice of Mickey Mouse, died 10 days ago from complications with diabetes. He was the third voice actor for mickey and had been doing it since 1977. He already finished recording his voice for 358/2 Days which was the last time he would do so.
Wow. The comments on that article are ridiculous. There are some pissed off sony fanboys commenting and complaining how the 360 has been recieving some exclusives (however terrible to average they may be) from squeenix, and how they don't deserve it and sony should have all the squeenix games.
So refresh my memory...we've got one "mystery" project that's clearly Front Mission something, and one as yet unidentified project? But we know they're working on a new MMO?
I hope any new MMO they do is closer to being fun than FFXI ever was.
FF IX? I'd kill for a remake of VII with the graphics from the PS3 tech demo. I don't know why they won't remake VII. Wasn't that Square's most lucrative Final Fantasy title?
Finally in LA ready for E3... 3 days to go. Learned some very strange out-of-nowhere Square news today, but I can't repeat. All I can say is a previous comment of mine in this thread is now null and void.

It probably was, and it's more than likely the most popular one of all time, which from where I'm standing it'd make a lot of sense for Square-Enix to keep any ideas of a remake very close to their chest - it'd make the perfect ace up their sleeve in a dire situation. If I were a betting man I'd put my money on a FFVII remake being released to mark an anniversary for the franchise or the game itself, meaning we've missed the 10th anniversary for the game by 2 years, and the Dissidia is covering the series' 20th anniversary.
I'd be more interested in a remake of IX myself. 2nd disc right now, achingly in love. A shame Steiner doesn't have more dignity and grace though.
My second favourite FF, only just losing to FFIV. I kinda liked Steiner being a bumbling idiot though - he had the best intentions, but he's even more sheltered and closed-off from the rest of the world as Garnet is. If Garnet is a fish-out-of-water, then Steiner's a goldfish in the middle of the Sahara Desert. That said there's nothing in the storyline I didn't automatically get on board with, considering the environment.

Time to scan the thread for your comments due to cryptic metaphor!
I'd like to see more games like Tactics. Not Tactics Advance, Tactics. No stupid monster people, no fucking idiot adolescent girls claiming to be boys, no retarded clothes. Just guys in armor hitting other guys in armor with their swords and going on about duty and honor and how the church is manipulative and evil.
God damn, I love War of the Lions.
EDIT: Most of all, more character like Delita. Seriously, what a guy.
I would be content with Square reviving the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre franchise and letting it be the "grimdark" console strategy franchise, while the Tactics Advance series can stay portable.
At the least, it'd make expectations from one camp or the other a bit more reasonable.

Double Helix is working on a reinvention of a famous franchise. This is all I can say right now, but from there it should be relatively clear.
Well, both Secret Project 1 and Secret Project 2 are 360/PS3, so Multiplatform appears to be the line for SE now, bar Versus which is PS3 fanboy Nomura's pet project.
And yes, that is definitely one...
No Square Enix E3 Press Conference this year, so don't expect any big announcements.
I do have some pretty cool stuff lined up with them behind closed doors, though, and they'll be doing a lot of...

Yeah, Ward. I remembered he carried some kind of marine weapon, anyway. Cut me some slack, I haven't played the game in ten years (and never will again)
Honestly I don't really care about an 8 remake so long as it doesn't get in the way of a (good) 7 remake. 'cause that's more money for FFXXIV or whatever they'll be up to by then.
An FF8 remake would be great if they changed everything after halfway through the third disk and got rid of the junction system. And this is coming from someone who liked FF8.
Also, Ward's weapon was an anchor that had been made into a harpoon. I guess that's standard issue for big dudes in the Galbadian army.
I really, really doubt we'll ever see a remake of that game, though. FF8 just wasn't all that popular. I've always liked it for various reasons, but it was pretty controversial, and Square is out to make money. They're not going to dump a big chunk of money into remaking an old game that they're not even sure is going to sell.
They should just slap FFI - XII on a Blu-ray and release that as a collection. It would be awesome and also sell a shitton. They could also do all the PS1 games on PSN. More money. Get I - VI on PSP, slap that on PSN.
Really they don't even have to do remakes. Just straight up ports of everything would sell a hojillion copies.
Edit: Man with the Machine Gun is a good track but it pales in comparison to Still More Fighting, the Cosmo Canyon theme (Valley of the Fallen Star I think it's called?) or my personal favourite overlooked track, Jenova Absolute.
Unless you were talking about the literal man with the machine gun. Who I guess maybe ties with Barret.
He single handily saves the plot of FF VIII by being awesome.

Agreed. The only parts of VIII that really stuck out for me was any part with Laguna involved. He makes a far more compelling character than Squall and his idiot parade.
I don't see why the characters in FF8 get such shit. No, they weren't straight out of Faulkner or anything but they were as good as your standard JRPG/Anime stock character heroes.
I'll never give up on that dream. EVER! While I'm at it. How about a full port of all the GBA remakes over to DSi Ware? And how about some Secret of Evermore love too? You know what I'm going to call ALL out baby.
Translate Romancing Saga 3 and Bahamut Lagoon while your at it! Chop, chop!

I hated the 8 characters for a bunch of reasons.
Spoilered for rampant FF8 hate and the convenience of those who would like to skip over it
a) I can't stand the whole 'highschoolers save the world' thing, so that's an automatic negative on all of them except the Laguna crew
b) I hated Yuffie in 7, and Selphie was just Yuffie with nunchucks. And Zell was dude Yuffie. HEY LOK AT MEEEEE I AM SO HYPERACTIVE AND CUTE WOO WOO WOO YEAH ENERGY HYPER GO FUN TIMES YEAH!!!
c) Squall didn't give a shit about anything. Why was he even there? Why not just curl up into a ball and die if you don't care about saving the world? Oh poor you, you had a rough life. Cloud and Terra didn't even know who they were for half their respective games and they still went out and saved the world.
d) "Oh by the way we all forgot we lived together in an orphanage silly GFs!" Why do you know this, Irvine, and why does everyone else just accept it?
e) Squall spends half the game hating Rinoa's guts and then all of a sudden decides it is twu wuv and he is the knight in shining armor for no goddamned reason. At least Tidus and Yuna made sense.

Secret of Mana - better than Children of Mana? I'm assuming so, but GAME only had CoM.
Regarding Squall; I don't see why people in the game would gravitate towards him. Sure, from the outside he's an enigma and they are quite fun to try and unravel, but he just doesn't give way enough to make the effort worthwhile. The rest of the cast had every right to say "Fuck you, Squall, go mope in your room" and do things without him, but for no real reason (until the whole "LOL HAI ORPHAN FRENDZ!" bit) they're still trying to get him to open up. He cares for them, but he's got such a bullshit way of showing it. Take a look at the scene where Squall saves Zell in the prison. Granted Zell acts like a moron, and yet Squall's so wrapped up in his own persona that he couldn't even tell Selphie "Yeah, Zell's important. What about it?"
I can see your points but then again if you hate the whole "highschoolers save the world thing" you're cutting out 90% of JPRGs there. Hell, Cloud's battle-hardened ass was all of 21. I think Cecil was 20 or something. I'm not saying it's sensible but that's a genre convention we're dealing with here.
The game definitely had some plot holes, not going to deny that for a minute. I've often felt like it seemed that they got about two-thirds of the way done and just kind of said fuck it. I would have loved to have seen an FF firmly grounded in a realistic world (with a little bit of SF in there for flavor of course), without crazy stuff like the Shumi and Lunar Cry and Esthar.
The reason I liked it, though, was because of its setting (at least for the first 70% of the game). It was kind of like a futuristic version of the Cold War; Laguna and his crew were kind of like 'Nam buddies. If Galbadia had worn realistic military fatigues instead of that goofy armor those sections in the past would have been so badass.

Secret of Mana - better than Children of Mana? I'm assuming so, but GAME only had CoM.
O.o Seriously? Okay, Imagine this:
A 3 player SNES game that utilized the multitap. It played like a top down beat them up with magic. It had levels, but didn't focus on it. Menues were an easy to understand radial dial. The plot was actually decent and the fights, the fights a pure delight.
Children of Mana...hell anything except Secret of Mana 1 and 2 (which never came over to the US...grrr That's Sekin 3 he's talking about) sucked.

Alrighty, I'll ditch CoM for SoM as soon as I can. And yes I was serious; I've been out of the JRPG circle for quite some time. I blame Mass Effect for being awesome, but that's a different topic all together.
Oh yeah, I realize Cloud's right young in FF7 but it's not like he's worrying about prom night whilst fighting Sephiroth, you know? If they changed the gardens from high schools to like... actual military bases with squads of actual soldiers getting deployed on missions, and not precious Selphie organizing a battle of the bands in between jobs or whatever, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with the game.
I mean, I'd still hate Squall but at least the whole crew wouldn't be all "We can do it with the power of friendship!! Scooby gang ho!"
Throughout the years of playing JRPGs, I've never really identified with the plucky young hero. I've always been more for the battle-hardened veteran type, even back when I was a teenager.
Considering how often the battle-hardened veteran type tends to die or turn evil at some point as a plot motivator for the young hero, I've had to endure a lot of disappointments over time.

Pretty much it for obvious ones this thread.
I have the firm belief that very few games should be "Re-made".
X-COM is one of them.
FF7 may be one of them (for purely marketing purposes).
FF8 is not one of them.
Let 'em eat fucking pineapples!
I'm hoping it's not this one.
The Pipe Vault|Twitter|Steam|Backloggery|3DS:1332-7703-1083
I concur.
Except I've never played X-COM and I'm worried they will shovel stupid Genesis crap into the FF7 remake.
But seriously fuck 8 and its entire cast except maybe the guy with the giant harpoon who doesn't talk.

Also it's clearly an anchor.
Also VIII is awesome, but VII needs a remake much worse.

Also Junctioning is awesome. So is having a salary, and the way they handle weapon upgrades is awesome.
Plus the game has the Man with the Machine Gun and Triple Triad. That already puts it ahead of FF VII.
