I've tried a couple that don't seem to work, so I'd like someone who's used one to reccomend, if you would. Thanks in advance.

If you're familiar with VirtualDub, there's an FLV plugin for it. Load it in the video, set it to recompress with the desired codec, and save the AVI. Voila.

edit: should mention that the plugin only reads the file format and doesn't come with any codecs Flash uses, so if you don't have a way to decode VP6 or FLV1 formats (the author recommends ffdshow which I do as well), or simply don't want to, then that method probably isn't the best.

MediaCoder is a pretty great little program. It's even got plug-ins so you can reencode video to ipod / psp / whatever with just one click.

From my experience, free converters never work properly or even don't work at all :|
Personally I use Flash to Video Encoder, this one does the job great, but it costs:| I haven't bought it myself - my mother has it on her computer :P

Wait, did I just get two people who have no posts other than this thread recommend a paid converter?

    That's not suspicious at all!

    I disagree, I think it's really very suspicious.o_O
By the way, though the converter is really paid, I use a free trial and it's enough for me.

FFMPEG, which is likely what all these are using as a back-end anyway. If you are comfortable with the command line, that is.

I can complain. They stole FFMPEG's work.

It looks like the geovid people are also stealing other people's work.

Free Video Downloader is a decent front end to FFMPEG.
