The crazy thing about Empire at War was when I first got Imperial-Class Star Destroyers. I thought they would be slightly bigger than the Acclamators and Victory-Class. But goddam!
EaW would have been fun if the automatically decided battles didnt lose half your god damn fleet. If I controlled the battle myself id lose like a frigate and maybe a destroyer (empire lol) but after a while and i got bored I would autofight and lose like 8 destroyers vs 3 squads of xwings X(
Well, if TIE Fighter is anything to go by, capital ships never regenerate shields so you can take them down pretty easily with fighters - even ones without torpedoes - unless they counter with a fighter screen of their own, or Lancer (or Rebel equivalent).
Anyone else remember Galactic Conquest in Battlefront 2? Did anyone else here get stuck with the enemy's last stand at fucking polis massa every single campaign?
It always went down like that for me, I just sent wave after wave of fleets at that rock, trying out every bonus but I failed every time.

Polis Massa was my goddamn Waterloo.
That was one of the more unbalanced levels in the game. The only strategy that I found that even had a chance of working was taking a vehicle around to steal their rear base.

Getting Star Destroyers in that game is so goddamn awesome. So much firepower.
Though nothing really compares to bringing Vader with the Executor into a fight. Goddamn thing takes up half the screen, and is just so stupidly punishing.
X-Wing - My friend had this on his 486. Once, when his sound card broke and he couldn't use his joystick, he had to use the mouse... we still crack up today when we remember how he would frantically move the mouse down on the pad several times, trying to catch the TIE's that came screaming past.
X-Wing Vs. TIE - Once I'd gotten my first pc, we played this modem to modem. Calling each other late at night after each game, trying not to wake up other people in the house.
X-Wing Alliance - One of the greatest Star Wars games ever released. I played it for years.... unfortunately I can't anymore because it won't work with the X360 pad, and it won't let me re-assign the x axis, so Joytokey and xpadder are out....
Jedi Knight - Oh God, one of my favourites for sure. My first pc was a heap of shit, a Pentium 133MHz AST that couldn't play it online. When I got my second, a 450MHz K6-II with a Voodoo3, I played Jedi Knight online for around two years, on Microsoft's Zone. I even co-ran a clan, round about the time Phantom Menace came out when everyone was obsessed with Duel of the Fates. It kept the game going longer online. It's sad to see the Zone now, filled with nothing but those casual web games.
Episode One - The Phantom Menace - I knew this wasn't a great game, but I liked it anyway. I went back to it about a year ago to see if I could get any enjoyment out of it these days, and... oh, God. Oh, God, oh God, oh God. Just, no. That freaking top-down viewpoint, not being able to see far enough ahead, and they put in platform jumping sections.
Jedi Outcast - A worthy sequel to Jedi Knight, but everyone in the clan had gone their seperate ways, and, seeing as we were still living out in the sticks in pre-broadband Ireland, our 56k modems weren't fast enough to play online. Loved it but I didn't spend nearly as much time with it as I did with Jedi Knight.
Jedi Academy - When this came out we still didn't have broadband. We played a lot of this on our lans, especially with mods. Eventually I got broadband, but it was wireless site-to-site and wasn't great for gaming. But now that I've moved into town in my own apartment, we have fast broadband now (Ireland's national network decided to offer broadband in the area only after other companies started offering alternative solutions), online games are no problem. I am still playing Jedi Academy today, in the form of the awesome MovieBattles II mod.
KOTOR/2 - These games were great, offering a new way to access the Star Wars universe. I've only ever played each of them once, though. There are only so many space rats I can kill before it starts feeling like WoW, and then I get very bored and quit.
Republic Commando - Such a shame that this game never got a sequel, it was a lot of fun. Like someone else said earlier, this with co-op would be great.
Battlefront/II - These two were supposed to be the X-Wings of today? Well, they're not good enough. The flight and vehicle sections are too "console-ish" with little depth, the troops with basic rifles (the most numerous type in the games) have blaster guns that take several shots to kill one enemy, and the Jedi parts are a joke compared to the Jedi Knight series. That said, however, they can be fun to play. We haven't played them in years now though.
CONSOLE GAMES -
Episode One Racer - Loved this game. Had it on the N64 and we played it all the time when we went to the local arcade... it's still there as far as I can tell, though the second cab is broken. As Anakin I was awesome in this.
Shadows of the Empire - Pretty mediocre, but oh boy, that Hoth level. Over and over and over. And you got to fight Boba Fett.
Rogue Squadron/2/Leader - On the N64 they were great little shooters, but when I bought the GameCube and Leader with it... wow. My jaw dropped. It looked better than the films themselves! These games (Leader especially) came the closest to the X-Wing games of old.
Jedi Power Battles - We had this on the Dreamcast. A pretty cool little game, though the platforming got old quick and it was really unfairly difficult. My brother and I did beat it, playing as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan respectively, though there were some harsh levels. I remember an end-of-level boss in particular, this robot that would move from left to right and fire things at you, and you couldn't get up close to hit it because it was hovering in the air where you couldn't jump. Drove us crazy.
The Force Unleashed - Oh, how pissed were we when we learned this wasn't coming to the pc. Turned out to be not such a bad idea in the end though, as it isn't that great a game. When will we get a new Jedi Knight game, LucasArts? When?
Can't think of anything else at the moment. But yeah, I've had good, long years of Star Wars games. It's just a shame LucasArts is a joke now and they've left the pc behind.

My band members and I spent many an afternoon with Battlefront 2. We all got so good at it that battles were over in about five minutes, because we'd just slaughter the computer opponents.
Oh God, I'd forgotten about Supremacy/Rebellion. My friend and I would play that for hours. We edited the characters to replace them with powerful Jedi/Dark Jedi, then agree to send them to the same planet to see who would win. We would have only one fleet battle typically, when he as the Alliance would send his fleet to Coruscant. We had so many ships on either side that the game would start to break down, as it just couldn't handle the numbers, even as our computers grew more powerful and we continued to play it. If only someone could patch the game with DirectDraw or something, we'd still play it today, and actually finish all those fleet battles.

So, to celebrate Star Wars Month, I'm gonna install Jedi Academy and try to get TIECD running. If those pan out well, I might do a KotOR run or maybe XW:A.
The levels themselves of Jedi Academy are tons of fun. Too bad the story is a bit lacking. But map for map, the missions are a blast.
I'm curious what character most people choose to play as. I'm pretty sure I've played through JA three times, and two of three I've gone with the Twi'lek female and dual wield focus. The third play through was as the face-mask dude (I forget the race) and a double bladed lightsaber.
I've never actually played JA with a single lightsaber, since I've gotten my share of that in Jedi Outcast.
In a related note: I wish they would have added some lightsaber stances and styles to The Force Unleashed.
Did anybody hear anything about JO and JA getting digital distribution? I want them real bad but 40$ for JA is just awful, and that's the used copy. It goes for like 130$ on Amazon. Lucasarts would make a shit ton of money if they put games on Steam.

Quite the opposite for me. First time I ran through the JA single player was a couple months after it had come out, and by then I was pretty deep in the online community. Single-bladed was my thing, since dual and saber-staff were pretty much just katas and all. I stuck with the single from so much JO, and it paid off.
Something about the mechanics with the dual and staff kinda threw me for a loop, and I did eventually play through with both of them. Single is just so much more versatile, because there are three stances as opposed to two. Stick with red for well-timed defend/attack, counter with blue, defend with yellow necessary. Pretty solid strategy, I always felt.

All this talk makes me want to fire up my Wii and pop in Rogue Squadron II and to a lesser extent, Rebel Strike. Who else thought Rebel Strike was worth it just for the co-op RSII? Say what you will about the inconsistent single player, taking out two Star Destroyers with a friend was awesome. Shit got tense when one person had to pilot the Falcon through the Death Star's pipes though. I remember raging at my brother whenever he got us game overs.
So i just found out about the hidden level in MotS. Pretty great easter egg. (is it an easter egg if you have to unzip a file on the CD, and download a file from the internet to get it to run?)
That sounds familiar. Its been a really, really long time since I played Mysteries of the Sith.
Random story: I have a strong memory association of JK2 with Halloween. I really enjoyed Star Wars Lethal Alliance. Mainly for the fact that it's a third person action game and for once, you aren't a Jedi, and also, you were a hot twi'lek mercenary. It was a bit rough around the edges, but it had some cool bullet time acrobatic shootouts and interesting use of a droid as a weapon.
Am I the only one who liked Star Wars Bounty Hunter? I remember playing that on Gamecube with my brothers, and just the jetpack made it so awesome, and it had some pretty cool weapons as well. Favorite level was definitely the Coruscant one, cause chasing after the bounties through crowds in the city was so freaking cool. The game seems to get a lot of hate though.

When I played it I actually did quite like it. Right up until that level where you had to break into a jail for some reason. My young self couldn't beat it and gave up in frustration.

Yeah, it definitely had frustrating parts thinking back on it now, but I just love jetpacks I guess. Best part of battlefront was the dark trooper and the clone jet trooper. Naturally I can't wait for Dark Void
One of the first computer games I got on CD-ROM was a big collection of Star Wars games. In this huge box there was TIE Fighter, Rebel Assault 1 and 2 (I played the shit out of 1), Dark Forces and a making of the re-making of the original trilogy (this was about when they re-released the original trilogy in theaters).
Edit: This thread is so gonna make me replay some of my favourite SW PC games: KotOR, Republic Commando, EaW, Jedi Academy... all so good.
I had that same collection. TIE Fighter was freakin' awesome.
As was Dark Forces, and I JUST found out about a game called Outlaws that used the same engine. Looks like I'm going to have to go bargain bin hunting...
Oh man, turns out I still have all those CDs. I'm gonna install TIE Fighter tomorrow.
The person who brings us new that TIE fighter is being made available for download free by LucasArts had better be gay because a lot of people are going to be looking for his penis.
I've never quite figured out why Lucasarts hasn't thrown up a lot of their old catalog on XBLA and PSN.
Because releasing the old classics on consoles and not developing sequels or anything new of merit on the pc will be the biggest slap to the face of all time.

Also, that would require them to actually have some coders to port it. They fired them all even before TFU was actually released, remember?
No wonder they didn't want to release Force Unleashed on the pc... what if it needed a patch?
Anyway, the flight sims at least could never work on the consoles, not unless they had a keyboard hooked up to them. All the power/shields/weapons level recharges, next/friendly/enemy/neutral/mission critical/ targets, dock/undock, hyperspace buoy select, communications, disabling blasters, single/double blasters, switch secondary weapon type, open/close wings... yikes.

Ugggghhh. I've been replaying KotOR 2 and I'm stuck on Nar Shadda. Not suck as in "I don't know what to do" but rather I'm stuck in the sense of "I have very little motivation to push through this area."
Seriously, the quest to do random acts of kindness or meanness is like the worst quest ever. The whole purpose of this planet is to attract the attention of the Exchange so they will set-up a meeting with you. Well, I know for a fact that if given the option, I could just murder my way to the office of the main guy, but that isn't an available option, so instead I'm stuck doing a whole bunch of pointless busywork, building up an invisible counter of "Things done to attract the attention of the Exchange."
I loved Star Wars Rebellion... beat it at least 3 times as both factions. I think it is easily and by far the most underrated Star Wars game. It has so much depth to it and once you figure out the game via lack of documentation, it's fucking addictive.
Second most underrated? Tie between Shadow of the Empire (which I always perceived as being received badly by the gaming press), and Force Commander.
Yes, Force Commander.
Fuck you people, my computer ran it fine, it was great, way better than the 2D bullshit RTS that came after it.
I just got Jedi Academy in the mail today, and I'm loving it. Only problem is it's a bit tough to do fluid saber/force combat, maybe The Force Unleashed spoiled me. I'm doing the tram level on Corellia and it's a blast. I'm a sucker for moving levels.

Star Wars Rebellion's problems go far deeper than lack of documentation. The interface was designed either by a sadist or someone that makes money fixing carpel tunnel syndrome. The AI is retarded and certain things are completely unbalanced (like the ability to have Han Solo and co convert an entire sector to your side in very little time or Nebulon B Frigates).

Oh man. I just went on a pre-finals KotOR replaying binge, and I forgot how awesome dark Bastila is. Maybe it's just because I'm in love with Jennifer Hale's voice, but Bastila makes the best apprentice to the dark lord ever. And it's so refreshing after she spends the first 3/4 being such a stuck-up goody two-shoes.

This is true, the AI could have been improved.. I am not sure the AI actually knows how to train Jedi, etc... but there's something very satisfying about taking over the whole galaxy.
I am not saying it's perfect, I'm just saying that the concept was very solid and I think that Empire at War did a piss poor job at trying to merge it with a true RTS. I think a better emphasis on agent development and less on planetary management would have made Empire at War, to me, much more enjoyable.

Yeah, in theory Empire at War is clearly superior. But in practice I played Rebellion much more.
Hmmm, I never spent much time training any Jedi except for sending Luke to confront his Father over and over again if I had Vader pinned down. Always seemed like the rewards were not worth the effort.

CoH is more about small skirmishes. I want a Star Wars Medieval II: Total War, because THAT could capture the scale of the Clone Wars. Huge batallions of droids + air support and tanks and stuff? Yeaaaaah. A Star Wars version of CoH would work better for Rebels v Empire.

I think a better emphasis on agent development and less on planetary management would have made Empire at War, to me, much more enjoyable.
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
Yeah, in theory Empire at War is clearly superior. But in practice I played Rebellion much more.
Hmmm, I never spent much time training any Jedi except for sending Luke to confront his Father over and over again if I had Vader pinned down. Always seemed like the rewards were not worth the effort.

Holy shit. I think I just created the only game that sucks more of your life away than Civilization, MMOs non-withstanding.
edit:
fuckit, I just want a Star Wars version of DoWII or CoH. That would be phenomenal.
Yeah I want a CoH reskin set in the Clone Wars. Is it too much to ask?
