So I'm trying to become a teacher and I've been doing some observing and teaching some pre-prepared lessons to some fourth graders.

I gotta say guys, I fucking love doing this. The kids really get into it, they're all raising their hands to ask me shit, running up to me to tell me things, and just generally getting really excited when I walk into the room. They all want to talk to me.

Today I had to tell them that the next lesson would be my last, which was met with a loud "Awwwwww."

Also today they were signing each other's shirts, and as I was packing up to leave I was ambushed by pretty much the entire class wanting me to sign their stuff before I left.

These kids love me and it's a fucking wonderful feeling, dudes. I haven't been this happy about anything in ages.

I want to be a teacher that kids look forward to seeing.

When kids are looking at their schedules for their upcoming year, and asking older students about the teachers, and sometimes they'll be like "oh, you got Mr. X, you'll like him, he's great", and I wanna be that guy.

Let's talk about eduction, folks. I know there are some teachers and some of my fellow wannabes on this here forum.

I did primary school teaching at uni for like 2 years.
I really enjoyed the teaching part but edcation politics is such buuuuuulllllshhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, which kinda killed it for me. And it's not something you can do half-heartedly.
I'm pleased for you that you have the enthusiasm.

Beware the administration, they regularly cause trouble for my mom who teaches language arts in a middle school here

Do they call it Language arts or communications or something else where you are TDOT? It's a regular debate

I was asked by a local art supply store to put together a kids' cartooning class for this summer. It would probably be a lot of fun but I've been too swamped with freelance work lately to give it much thought.

That seems like a debatable decision. Just because newspapers are redundant doesn't mean that journalism is.

Though I guess if we keep going down the Huffington Post Rd., eventually we'll be able to outsource all our journalistic needs to retards who'll write for free

ive spoken to people in the field, from my professors to local journalists, and there just aren't jobs right now, at all. i used to write up freelance prep sports stories for my local paper, and even that isn't an option anymore.

besides, it was a 50-50 decision all along between education and journalism, and i can always get back into writing in the future.

    The administration is the devil

I decided to go into teaching mostly because I never had one of those teachers that make a difference in people's lives. Most of the teachers I had sucked balls and couldn't give a crap about the students. Plus, I love teaching and kids and I want to be home with my family as much as possible and teaching affords me this opportunity.

I intend on teaching English. I'm getting my english degree but in Florida you don't have to go to school for teaching specifically. They always have a shortage of teachers down here so it's a lot easier to get in.
