Yep, I used the Gauss rifle throughout the majority of Broken Steel.
One shot, one kill when getting the sneak attack bonus in the head. Goes for Deathclaws as well.
Also the range at Adams was good for it as well. From the other side of a hangar. BAM.
Oh right, not only that, but when I'd miss and hit the body, the knockdown was supreme. I didn't even know they had a knockdown effect in the game, until I shot a Deathclaw in the back, and it would keel over, allowing me to easily reload, and pop one or two in its head before it gets back up.
I completely forgot about the Gauss Rifle, I will have to use that again because I was using the Victory Rifle and Terrible Shotgun but I would have prefered to use the Gauss Rifle.
Yeah, it's really great.
Tesla Cannon was fucking king though as well, justifying the Big Guns (if it is counted as a big gun, maybe it's counted as ENR, dunno, don't care) assignment of points. That shit would take out 6-7 of the highest order of bad dudes if I got them to cramp in a small space against me.
Anyone else having random missing textures and crashes after installing Broken Steel? I loaded up my game today to discover that the back of Tenpenny Tower was missing. Then it was a raider skin, and then some other stuff, and throughout all this the game was crashing every 10 or so minutes.

According to this it's an energy weapon, but sometimes they have inaccurate information before it gets corrected/edited out.
Although I don't think it would matter anyway, the tesla cannon seems so powerful that as long as you actually hit something with it then it probably doesn't matter what your skill is.
Okay, clearly they're involved in doing something else right now. Swell for them. Why don't you turn around and go away before they notice you. Unless you like getting fucked up by a horde of Feral Ghouls.
For anyone with invisible monsters, pink skins, etc, make sure you're using the latest copy of Archive Invalidation Invalidated. Also, if using MMM, you may want to check your load order. You want the main MMM esm at the top and the main MMM esp at the bottom of your load list, followed by any optional MMM esp files.
I'm running MMM, FOOK, and parts of XFO as well as quite a few smaller mods with no real problems after a little tweaking. But archive invalidation invalidated is a MUST if you're using ANY mod that replaces textures/meshes.
You'll also want to look into the fallout interoperability program (foip) if running MMM with FOOK, XFO, FEV, etc. It helps them play nice with each other.
::: Install Instructions :::
0) Make sure you have installed the latest version of ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated!
1) Unzip the mod to your Fallout 3 Data directory -- make sure you have extracted the Meshes and Textures folders as well.
2) Use FOMM to select the following files to load (you MUST select both):
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod.esm
...
... (other mods)
...
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod.esp
3) Optionally, also select your choice of plugins, loading after the .esp:
...
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod.esp
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod - Increased Spawns.esp
[_] Mart's Mutant Mod - Increased increased Spawns.esp
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod - Zones Respawn.esp
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod - Tougher Traders.esp
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod - Hunting & Looting.esp
[*] Mart's Mutant Mod - Natural Selection.esp
[_] Mart's Mutant Mod - Wounding Effects.esp
Also, make sure MMMF3 .esps are loaded last in your load order.
4) Go inside somewhere without creatures and NPCs, rest for 4 days
5) Save your game, and load your game.
6) Enjoy!
Also I didn't know those were real, to the googlemobile! Or is that a shoop?
Didn't notice that at first.
That pic is the original prop of Deckard's pistol from Blade Runner. The weapon was created by combining a hacked up Steyr-Mannlicher Model .222 SL receiver on to a Charter Arms .44 police bulldog double-action revolver.
I picked one up last night before bed in Rivet City on a new game, time to go out into the Capital Wasteland and see if its still the monster it once was. 8-)

Is it just me, or did they make hacking dramatically easier? Now theres only like 5-6 choices, even on very hard.

I never thought hacking was that bad. Annoying, sometimes. But having a 100 Science usually allows you to eliminate most password options, plus one attempt reset. If you can find the patterns at that skill level, you're set.

I honestly get lucky most of the time now and get it on my first try.
The .223 Pistol, amongst other weapons, can be obtained from the "Classic Fallout Weapons" mod in the OP (or was it the first post?). Then I just had to find it at a weapon's vendor (though it might show up in the wild, I've encountered raiders with Greaseguns, cattleprods and Tommy Guns(!) as well as Super Mutants with new stuff, like the FN FAL, an accurate assault rifle using the .308 sniper ammo.)
It is proving pretty powerful so far, blowing off limbs and popping heads even without bloody mess. However, I've only been going against ghouls and raiders mostly (level 6). I haven't found any other guns that can be used to repair it though, maybe the .44 magnum since its also a break action revolver (which is totally wrong, its supposed to be a side-loader, but I guess they needed to use the .44's reloading animation). The model isn't super accurate, but eh, close enough.

I just played a small arms character, but that gun makes me want to do another one.
Can't though, have to start my Iron Man play through.

Just... playing through as Iron Man. Energy Weapons, Hand-to-Hand, Repair. Have an awesome mustache. Get a hold of some power armor, the cybernetic shit, etc. as soon as possible. Kill everything.
Good god the feral ghouls in the Presidential subway track thing...
It's lucky I had the stealth suit and about 15 nuka grenades and bottlecap mines or else i'd never have made it. I love that they've added new enemies that can totally kick your ass if you use conventional methods. The android's plasma rifle does nothing against the Reavers.
Trying to get to Washington Monument with MMM and Stranger. The keyword there is trying. If I get spotted it's usually 4+ brutes with miniguns breaking my limbs from snipers distance away, and the battle between Talon and the super muties? I can't see through that shit from lasers, minigun fire and rockets.

Fuck, that battle is intense even on normal regular, I can only imagine what its like with increased spawns. Must try!

There's also a couple quests related to project purity, but nope that's it. What made you think you could get to 30 just from broken steel?
I thought I had read that somewhere. I've been purposefully avoiding anything regarding the content of it so I wouldn't spoil myself like an idiot like I did with The Pitt.
Too bad i've also done every other quest I can think of with this character >_<
So how does Broken Steel work...? As in do I need to finish the game to get it to work? Is it a quest that pops up like the other DLC even if I'm not finished (and then what happens to the quests for the main story I haven't finished)? And finally, can I finish the main quest with Broken Steel on and have it continue unlike where it ends now?

There are a couple of minor post-conclusion mini-quests like:
Helping fix Liberty Prime and collecting mutant blood
I've also found a handful of extra content based on the new status quo, which may mean there are some other small side quests hidden in the expansion. I do wish that all of the expansions had added a handful of mini-quests. They add a lot, without being that difficult to develop.
What I'd like to see is an expansion that just adds a bunch more side quests, random encounters and new new dialogue based on the changed status quo. You could squeeze quite a few more hours of wandering around, checking up on people and finding new missions.

That's what I did. I had several unfinished major quests when I accidentally completed the game. With Broken Steel, I did the original finale and then went back and finished the quests I had left without a problem. The only caveat is that the super mutants have better weapons and new stronger unit, which can make some quests harder than they would have been originally.

What mod are you using to up the number of Ghouls there?
MMM with ghoul rampage and IIS ticked.
I killed em all
Blue HUD is in the options ingame, no mod needed there.
