So I just hit level 20 in the core game on my first playthrough, and I still have so much to do. Is it worth trying to do everything in one game, or would it be better to finish the story and then start a new game with the intention of doing different stuff?
Looks like we're done with Fallout 3's story, and now it's just Redneck Woods and Aliens joke DLC.
Time to announce what Fallout 4 will be all about, or give some new info on Vegas. Sideshit doesn't interest me much.
I picture this being said in the Simpson's Comic Book Guy voice.
It amuses me.
I can't imagine him saying "Sideshit".
Yes, because in the life of Mad Max or Kenshiro it was one epic arc after another, that in no way had side stories where they were, you know, WANDERING FROM PLACE TO PLACE.
It's the post apocalypse, it's not like you're getting charged at the toll bridge any more.
We got enough sidequests and minorquests in the main game. Broken Steel was rectifying the REAL problem of the MAIN STORY being SHORT AS FUCK. That's why it stands as a useful piece of DLC.
Anchorage was... I don't know what the fuck that was. For a game that prides itself on its vastness and "do whatever" gameplay style WHICH SOLD YOU ON THE GAME, to introduce some... what was Anchorage? Attempt at copying Modern Warfare? That shit was mind numbing. The concepts were cool, as far as the Gauss rifle and the Invisibility Armor are concerned, but the "story" offered was weak, while the gameplay was unbearable.
The Pitt, with its super fetch-boy steel ingots was a fairly pathetic side story, with bare-bones quests, which in contrast to the sidequests in the vanilla game show just how much of a minimal amount of effort was put in to script the whole thing together. The voice acting was beyond poor, except for the main guy at the end of the road and his kid, and even he had a limited amount of lines. The whole idea was kind of okay, and the ending was fairly colored if not simplistic, but the price certainly did not justify the extremely short experience. At all, if Broken Steel is measured as an equal (which it is, $10 for missing content from the main game was more than enough).
With BS done, it's obvious there's nothing more to tell in that area, or that they don't want to tell anything else relating to the Vaults, Brotherhood, FEV and the general core lore that keeps the windmill going (and has done so for the past twelve years). They obviously decided Fallout 4 was going to do that, and/or New Vegas.
So now, to extract some more money because it worked so nicely the last 3 times, they're releasing Rednecks in the Woods and ALIENS HOW JOVIAL!
Sideshit.
You'll have to excuse me if I'm not all that psyched for it.
Have they said anything at all about the new FO game set in Vegas during E3? My understanding is that this is gonna be a full fledged new game that's more of a side-story and not so much of a sequel. Is that right?
I walk in with an advanced radiation suit and enough RAD-X and RADAWAY to spend a weekend getaway relaxing in a vat of nuclear waste and I still have to die? Fawkes you bastard, why didn't you go in there? I'm not hoarding all this radiation treatment to pile it in a corner and take pictures of it.

And yet, I'm surprised no one's made that particular screenshot yet...
People need to start posting their reactions to the ending on Youtube.
Or even better, someone should do Hitler's reaction to the Fallout 3 ending. Not saying that particular Youtube cliche isn't way overused, but it's funny to me.

I had to resist reading the spoiler. I haven't finished the game yet. I'm working on finishing up a few loose quests before I finish out the game. I think I've decided that I'm gonna finish this game as is and then start a new game with an evil character. My current character is Good/Neutral. I was good up until I blew up Megaton. Now I'm neutral. My next time through I'm gonna be a total dick in every way possible. Also, my current game I'm using small weapons, and I'm gonna go for energy weapons next time around. And perhaps crafting my own shit too. Sort of an Evil Scientist build.
One question though: I'm trying to complete the quest "Head of State." I'm going for the good ending on this one, so I murdered all the slavers at the Lincoln Memorial. I went back to the Temple and told Hannibal the deed was done. He said to meet him at the Memorials. I've completed like 4 other quests and he still hasn't shown up at the memorial yet. What gives?

You usually have to zone back and forth between the Temple and Memorial before they'll come in for some reason. They'll come up out of that subway down past the steps of the memorial; look for the pack Brahmin.
Be forewarned that fast travelling at the temple of the Union is kind of a pain in the ass because there's some kind of anti-fast-travel field around it and you have to go a few hundred yards away before it'll let you do it.

For some reason it takes for god damn ever. Try this though: the game will actually want you to meet them at the exit of the subway that is closest to the Memorial. Try to go over there, and if they still arent there try going into the subway and then coming out.

You can do like, 4 quests in a single day. It takes a week of movement to move a convoy of slow slaves.
My statement that I had completed 4 or so quests was really more to be indicative of the time that had passed. With as much fast travel, sleeping, waiting, and other shit I've done, not to mention time spent dungeon crawling, killing baddies, and filling in the map, I would say a whole shitload of gametime has passed.
I have some questions regarding mods. They each tie into each other.
Is there a way to separate saved games into folders? I'm a save whore and am going to start another character soon. My brother also plays.
Is there a way to set it up so that texture packs and their ilk are unpacked via an .esp file that applies it's changes only when selected in FOMM?
Is there a way to separate mod load out depending on character?
Basically I want a way to separate my character saves, as well as be able to quickly and easily apply mods so that they only affect the chosen character. That way I can have one set of mods running on my character while a different set of mods runs on my brother's character.
So where did this new DLC come from all of a sudden? I thought they announced 3 and yet they've got a fully fledged new pack ready to come out only next month?
And damn't, I want New Vegas info motha-mutant fuckers.
Anyone know if there's a good flashlight mod? The real time shadows engine in this game is...lacking, and the flashlight does not perform very well at all. Some rooms I walk into I can't tell a difference one way or the other.

they announced it awhile back, there are 2 more coming back, this and mothership zeta, there may even be 1 more after that to go wtih zeta on a retail disc, since point lookout is on disc with broken steel.
I got tired of stomping everywhere in power armor with big guns and blowing up everything in sight . So I picked up a regulator duster and the wazer wifle and now im the high tech sheriff of post apocalypse D.C. Also I agree with dark warrior , I never got to play fallout 1&2 ( watched a friend play them a bit though) so im really interested in how some of the original creators view their universe. Plus its Vegas .
I'd also like some input on the DLCs from someone other than BlackDove. I just got the game and it's awesome so far. I love how it manages to give you a big open world to explore, but it's easy to navigate and easy to get back to the main quests. It just clicks for me more than the Elder Scrolls stuff.
Broken Steel is the best and should be bought by anyone who hated the ending. (Everyone)
I'm playing Operation Anchorage right now. I had put off buying it because of all the negative comments made about it, but then decided I should play it for myself and live with the choice. I really like my choice. It's a great change of scenery, and the first mission had a cool Metal Gear feeling to it. (Not saying it's like MGS, just it felt similar in some way) The second mission feels like MoH to me for some reason. Plus the Invisible Ninja suit and Gauss rifle are freaking awesome. Honestly, for $10, I say buy it.
I'll let you know what I think of the Pitt when I'm done with OA.
OA wears thin towards the end of the last part but it does have some of the most OP weapons and armors in the game.
I'd still buy the pitt and broken steel first.
Question about the disc release of the DLC.
So it is going to be, Anchorage/Pitt, Steel/Lookout, what is mothership zeta going to come with?
Either nothing or an unannounced 6th DLC.
Personally, I'm hoping for a DC Expansion. There's no Supreme Court, Union Station, Reagan National, Dulles, etc. That or Baltimore.

You know what I find myself wishing for? A GTA4-style map where they meticulously copy over plans and architecture from real DC - road maps, alleyways, signs, then blowing it up and adding some 50s "SCIENCE" style flair.
Of course, it'd be way too big for the scope of the game, but that's why this is a dream.

Is the White House in FO3? I haven't found it yet if it is.
Also, is the Capitol Building actually for anything story or quest related? I'm not really asking for a spoiler here, just a simple yes or no would suffice. I went in there and cleared the first floor and started working on the second, and I decided to leave because I was getting a feeling that it was might be important later.

You can go to where it's at but there's nothing there anymore. I was kind of disappointed, the White House could have been a really fun area to mess around in.

Other than some very good loot, there are several quest reasons to go to the Capitol Building.
You can just go there right away and dick around inside, but it's best to wait until you have goals. It's a big place.

what? ive done all the quests and never once did i have to go into the capitol building, explain good sir!
I decided to beat the game, even though there are a few remaining quests that I could finish. I figure I'll nab them on my next play-through so that there will be a few new things for me to do.
I honestly wasn't really shocked by the ending. I've managed to stay away from spoilers, but it wasn't really a surprise that the game ended like it did. However, I do agree with the sentiments of the post on the previous page:
I walk in with an advanced radiation suit and enough RAD-X and RADAWAY to spend a weekend getaway relaxing in a vat of nuclear waste and I still have to die? Fawkes you bastard, why didn't you go in there? I'm not hoarding all this radiation treatment to pile it in a corner and take pictures of it.
I'm not upset about the events of the ending at all. The thing that annoys me is, as stated above:
The radiation wasn't that bad in there. I was wearing the advanced radiation suit. I was wearing the power armor helmet which also gives rad protection. I was under the effects of Rad-X. There's no way I should have died. Not to mention I also had Fawkes with me. Why couldn't I tell him the password and have him walk in there and do it himself.
It seems more like bad storytelling than anything. Its like the devs didn't consider all the possibilities when they wrote the ending.
Ahh well, not that big of a deal. Like I said, I wasn't really surprised, even though I didn't know any spoilers before hand.
I do have one question, however:
In the Broken Steel DLC:
(Story Spoilers Warning)
If the main character dies inside Project Purity, do the events of this addon take place before the end of the game? Or are you playing as a different character in this? How does Broken Steel fit exactly into the core game.
For that matter, how do all of the DLC packs fit into the core game?
If you have BS installed you don't die, you just go into a short coma and wake up later, tasked with kicking the Enclave's ass, so it all happens after Project Purity. There are also a couple of other quests that relate to the new supply of water. The other DLCs don't relate to the main story, you just get some radio signals and follow them up.
My one regret from my current save file is that I never got the opportunity to enter into lesbian relations with Sarah Lyons. Heck, I never got to be a lesbian with anybody. What a shitty game. I even decorated my Tenpenny Suite with the Love Nest theme. What a damn waste.

I remember Oblivion ran a little worse with the various mods on the 360.
i'm thinking about waiting for October to get the Game of the year addition for regular price with all the content included.
Shall enjoy the regular vanilla version until then.
