I would argue that the past is not indeterminate.
You can’t get any information about the ancient Assyrians out of the fact that a raindrop will fall on your nose tomorrow.
But you can get information about the ancient Assyrians from a fairy cake.
I feel like I should get this reference, but all that comes to mind is one of Tolkein’s stories.

hey eddy, I was thinking of you the other day actually

do you think that there are aspects of the past which are not history, or which are off-limits to history

I have no opinion on the matter, I just think it's an interesting question, and I wondered what you'd say.

    what would be an example

off the top of my head I'm going to say no since the most overlooked events/narratives in history are often the most important

Just to throw out an idea: perhaps aspects of the past for which there is no evidence - while possibly important - are not History?

not necessarily. Nothing ever happens in a vacuum, and a historical event (battle, treaty being signed, social upheveal) generally has an effect on the course of human development even if we have no record of it.

Bt by contrast non-Historical Events would still be part of history, yes?

I mean this is pretty trivial but what Caesar had for breakfast on his 13th birthday is kind of lost to history, but it's still an aspect of the past

Then I'm either mistaken about the definition of 'past' or the definition of 'indeterminate'
I’m thinking indeterminate as the opposite of determinisim: i.e. determinism says that some Assyrian dude stumbling in formation could alter the course of a raindrop two thousand years in the future. That’s conceivably true, but there’s no way you can prove it.

Take the monuments of Avebury in England. Massive, impressive things. You can still go see a small percentage of them (most of the monuments were destroyed by Christian Puritans in the 17-18th century at the behest of a series of local pastors).

Yet despite their presense to this day there is not sufficient data to make any kind of definitive claim about their meaning. Why were they built is very much a matter of speculation rather than (in my opinion) History.

Lister: What makes you think these aliens exist?
Rimmer: They must do, Lister! There's so many things that are strange and odd. So many things we don't have any explanation for.
Lister: Like, um, why do intelligent people buy cinema hot dogs? Do you mean that sort of weird and mysterious thing?
Rimmer: No, Lister, I mean like the pyramids. How did they move such massive pieces of stone without the aid of modern technology?
Lister: They had massive whips, Rimmer. Massive, massive whips.

yeah, and it answers the question - what did powerful monarchs during the roman empire eat? Why did they eat that food, was it a symbol of power or did ceasar just like it? Was it a commonly available food, or a rare one?

obviously you have to draw the line somewhere. that's why you can write an entire book on a very very specific piece of history or a very broad swath. You can focus on the mundane or general trends

One of the best books I had to read for a course on Late Imperial China (prof. Kent Guy at the UW is a kick ass lecturer) was called 1587 A Year of No Signifigance.

A year in which none of the notable or famous events of the Ming dynasty occured. It is an attempt to get a sense of daily life during the time.

Yeah, AMD processors are much less expensive but they're also less powerful. I believe they've only very recently been releasing products that can compete with Intel's offerings. That processor is intended for my current computer as an upgrade and it's actually one of the cheaper ones available.
