The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
World famous in New Zealand are Jemaine Clement & Bret McKenzie, better known to the planet as the 'Flight of the Conchords'.
They first met in Wellington as university students and felt that they'd like to learn to play guitar. Initially they tried playing other peoples songs, but finding that was too hard decided to write their own.
Their first major international success came at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they received rave reviews and built up a solid fan base (most of which, it seems, now run fan sites for them).
In due course, they made a series of adverts for Phones4U in the UK, a radio series for the BBC and, now, a self-titled TV series commissioned by HBO.
Having developed a small but dedicated cult following at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2003 (post Robotic invasion), the Conchords have gone from success to success. An initial BBC radio series in 2004 was followed by rising internet fame, which led to HBO picking them to up produce the self-titled sitcom. Along the way they've picked up a Grammy for Best Comedy Album, been nominated for Emmy's and picked up a host of NZ awards.
Also, the landlord from the show (Eugene, played by Eugene Mirman) opened for them, and was pretty funny as well.
So, we should talk about them and/or the show, because they're pretty outstanding.
Everyone always mistakes me for Jermaine. It was kinda cool at first because he has features which some would consider to be classically handsome, but dangit, there is more to me than just simply hangin' out and lookin' like Jermaine!
I love these guys, but Season 2 had me going "meh" so much...
I am hoping my brother's g/f comes through on those tickets in May. She is dead to me if she doesn't.
Some of the songs were kind of "meh" in Season 2 but I found the sitcom stuff as good or better than Season 1. The songs often seemed overproduced. It's hard to find lyrics funny when you can't understand them over the music.
Yeah, within the context of the show they don't wear retro fashion to be ironic, it's just that they are poor and from New Zealand, where things haven't progressed past the 1980's.
"Sugarlumps" was the best song from Season 2. That and "Too Many Dick's on the Dance Floor".
The second season reused a lot of plots and themes from the first season. The duo had said they couldn't think of anything new and ... they were right, I guess. It was just a lot of rehashing, with fewer memorable moments.

Still a lot of good episodes in season 2. The pepileptic dog benefit and Brahbrah... the one where Jermaine was dating the Australian girl... the New Zealand PM's visit...

As a general rule of thumb, ALWAYS look up FotC songs on Youtube for live versions, not the stuff on their HBO show. They have a significantly different amount of energy that goes into their show, and quite frankly, their songs are shorter and considerably less funny on it. Their live performances, however, are absolutely fantastic.

It exists in that mystical place called "The City." I dare not cross that invisible boundary and enter into its vile clutches.
depening on the direction you're coming from, you could skip downtown entirely
and the architecture is amazing.

I hail from New Whiteville, aka, West County-ish. If it weren't for the Cardinals I don't think I'd ever come downtown.
The mad dash through Crackrock Park after an evening of boozing is not that fun.

Ha! that's true.
My favourite Dave moment was the line abut chopping the guy's whole body off and leaving the dick behind.
Or ... wait, is that the follow-up line?
he had so many good ones, like
"it's great that you two found love, even though you're from Austria, and you're from some place nobodies even fucking heard of."
or when he was manning the new zealand info booth

I graduated from highschool in that building, wearing a white tuxedo.
