Where to Eat in Atlanta??

Hey everyone,

I am writing this hoping people could give me either some decent bars to check out or places to eat during my honeymooon. My soon to be wife and I are going to Atlanta, mostly for the Aquariam and Zoo, and were wondering where are a few great restaurants to try, or local hot spots I should know about. I'll put in here I'm from Wisconsin, so I do enjoy my beer, brats, meat and potatoes, if that really helps. Thanks again in advance!

I saw a show on the Food Network not too long ago that raved about this place in the ATL that serves chicken and waffles. Sounds a bit odd I know but it really is a southern kinda thing and you know what they say, "When in Rome..."

I don't think I'd eat at the same places that you would, so I'm going to recommend some places my friends seem to like.

Fogo De Chao - Brazilian Meat Parade
    Ruth's Chris - Steakhouse

I've gotten the impression that those two above are expensive, but I haven't eaten at either.

Mary Mac's - Commonly believed to be the best Southern Food in ATL.
Trader Vic's Tiki bar in the bottom of the Hilton. The drinks are fantastic there. I've heard good things about the food, but I haven't had any.

Also, if you like Thai food, you can't throw a rock around here without hitting a Thai restaurant.

Stay the hell away from Mary Macs. It's awful.

Go to The Vortex (slightly NSFW) for the best damn burgers you've ever eaten.

    I'd suggest:

Flip - Richard Blais' new restaurant, which is a really great little burger bistro.

Wisteria - a good place for New Southern cuisine, but expect to spend $100 or so.

The Atlanta Fish Market - Good seafood place.

Ted's Montana Grill - Yeah, a chain, but they don't have it in Wisconsin. It's Ted Turner's bison restaurant. Awesome bison. BISON.

If you're looking for a really "honeymoon" place to go and you have plenty to drop, go to

    Bacchanalia.

Both of these places are chains that are pretty much everywhere.

Yeah, Sorry about the bad suggestions. I wanted to help out, but I'm vegetarian, so the places I'd go, don't fit the bill of the OP.

Most chains you guys have, we don't. We just got a sonic near by finally, and still don't have much else, its all local style joints in wisconsin.

Man what. Mary Macs is pretty much heaven on earth, and I don't even like southern food.

I came into the thread to recommend The Vortex as well, though. That is my favorite restaurant in the whole city. They have two locations, one in Midtown and one in Little 5 Points. The Midtown one has fewer bums trying to steal their trash (true story), shorter wait times, and fewer meth addicts trying to charge you for parking in my experience. You have to be fine with partially nude women on the walls though. :winky: I'll second that the Vortex has the best burgers you've ever eaten. They are extremely filling as well. If I plan on going to the Vortex, I don't eat at all beforehand that day, and usually I don't have to eat at all the next day either because I'm still full the entire day.

If you are beer people, you need to go to the Brickstore. The food there is good, and the beer is damn amazing. A little bit out of Atlanta in the Decatur area, but pretty much one of the best bars I know.

Oh, I can't believe I forgot to mention Taco Mac. The food there is good (nothing to write home about, though), but they have over 100 kinds of delicious beer on tap, and over 350 different kinds of beer in bottle form.

I just double-checked with msuitepyon (I'm his fiance) - he meant to say stay the hell away from this place and not Mary Mac's. Mary Mac's is awesome.

The Flying Biscuit was one of our favorite places to eat in Atlanta. It's a great breakfast place with three convenient locations, one in the heart of Atlanta's gay district (which is an adventure in and of itself).

Bones is a good steakhouse as well:

    http://www.bonesrestaurant.com/

    Its expensive though.

Like NiceGuy said, we have a crapton of Thai, Indian, and Mexican restaurants.

Also The Roxx (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/9/120413/restaurant/Cheshire-Bridge/Roxx-Atlanta) serves burgers.

And Roasters (http://roastersfresh.com/) mostly a rotisserie chicken place.

I'll second Mary Mac's. If you want to try some authentic southern cuisine it is a good spot.

Also, Ted's Montana Grill is good if you want a hamburger. Best I've ever had.

So I forgot the name of the rib place I was going to recommend, for some reason I thought it was Shane's Rib Shack, but that didn't seem right. So I just did a search on Google for "atlanta amazing rib place" and it was the first hit. Fat Matt's.

GO. What are you waiting for? GO NOW! NOW NOW NOW!!

They have live jazz bands coming in to play, which I think happens later at night. I've only caught the band once, so I'm not sure. The food is pretty amazing. I never knew I could finish a whole slab of ribs before, but my friend told me to get rid of my stupid half-slab order, and I've never looked back.
