things that turn multiple key presses into one key, like spy disguises or engi buildings aren't cheap. they do a job that doesnt really affect other people's game. shit like the pyro ax thing or rocketjump scripts are pretty terrible and shouldnt be used by any self respecting player
I have so many scripts it's ridiculous. But most of them are just for rebinding keys based on what class I am and what weapon I have equipped. Also engi build and spy disguise scripts.
I was playing on a sniper only map awhile ago on some pub. Just practicing some sniper on sniper action. This dude had a script that would make him strafe left, duck half way through the strafe, stand up, and then do it again the other way.
It was very, very lame. Surprisingly effective, though. The bastard.

Wouldn't that make him ridiculously predictable? What if there's a wall on his left? I've never understood scripts like this, just strafe duck yourself and get the pattern into your head...
I would probably just end up using the Engi build since it
1. is useful to me
2. I actually play Engi in a pinch
What I don't understand about the "gameplay" scripts is how it would work to your advantage. The one I pointed out does exist (and is listed in the tf2 wiki) but is very situational. And - for me - it would be more trouble remembering to hit whatever key I bind it to in the situation.
Rocketjumping seems useless since (while I am new to soldier and suck at RJ) I would want different kinds of jumps for each place I am trying to get to.
I should have been more specific: Are there other scripts like the engi one that people here find useful and legit?

It's kind of hard to explain right, but I tried a ton of times to get the pattern down in the game, but it was just such an awkward movement. I eventually just gave up and ignored him, because he couldn't shoot for shit anyway.
I think it had a semi-random distance it would strafe each time, so it was near impossible to time where his head would be. Also, the timing of the crouch made it seem like it didn't even effect his strafe speed.
I write all my scripts, so if there's something you want I can tell you how plausible it would be, as well as how cheap.
Is there a way to change loadout without using the menus?
The M button is quick and fine for the match start but in the middle of things it take more time than I want. Which may be my computer. Hitting "M" takes some time to pull up the menu.
Well, to give an idea of my scripts, I have an engi one that is kinda borderline cheap? Basically, I press 4, that puts me in engi build mode, and if I press 1, 2, 3, or 4, it destroys whatever I have in place and puts me in build mode for it. This usually works out for me, but sometimes I accidentally destroy something.
I also have a similar script for disguising, pressing 4 puts me in disguise mode, and then my disguise keys wrap around instead of being 1-9 (ie, 1, 2, 3, 4, r, f, v, c, x). This makes it easier for me to disguise as engi, sniper, and spy and such. I have to press a button depending on what team I'm on, since the disguise commands are color specific, not based on what team you're on.
Then the rest is stuff like, changing my right mouse button to taunt when I have the flaregun out as pyro, or calling for help when I'm an engi with my wrench out, or making t pull out the disguise kit before taunting.
Edit: Unfortunately, changing load out used to be one of my favorite uses for scripts, but I don't think you can do that anymore ever since they made all the weapons server side. Goddamn, I even had my scripts change depending on what weapon I equipped so that was an annoying thing to lose.

There's ways around that.. in my spy scripts, I have the zero key on the keypad change my color. It means I can always press the same button to disguise as a certain class. It works by changing aliases around every time I press zero.
I've never felt the need to use scripts as engi, the submenus seem to work pretty well in most cases.

Yeah, that's what I do, if I'm on red team, I don't need to press anything, but if I end up on blue, I press "-" once until I change back to red, or I change classes and change back to spy or something. If I want to disguise as my own team I press shift while in "disguise mode".
The only script I've seen so far that is absolute bullshit is the pistol fast-fire script.
I've not used any scripts so far but I did find myself on Well the other day as Scout with a pistol that at least sounded as though it were rapid-firing.
How would the pistol fire faster than it does?
Okay so I didn't get it to work, but it used to be you could just put like +reload in a soldier.cfg or something and it'd try to reload all the time. That still usable?
wouldnt that stick you in the couple second reload cycle after every shot? i thought it takes like 2-3x longer to reload each rocket than to shoot them
Pretty sure you can interrupt the reload whenever you want by shooting. But I've never tried to stress test the system by having the game constantly try to reload.

I don't think that's work, that would be like holding down "r" while you play. It would probably get interrupted after you shot or finished reloading and stop. You'd have to find a system of getting it to constantly do +reload and probably -reload. Sometimes things act funky when you try to do + actions without completing with a - action. You could just create something like,
alias +forwardReload "+forward; +reload"
alias -forwardReload "-forward; -reload"
bind w +forwardReload
And have one for each direction. I think I helped somebody else with a script like this and they said it worked to great success.
Yeah with the soldier, with either rocket launcher or shotgun, you can interrupt the reload and shoot. It's weird this was like a big thing last time I used to play that everyone used.
edit: OK, yeah got it to work, I made new .cfg files in teamfortress/cfg when they were supposed to be in teamfortress/tf/cfg.
Works like a charm.

Awesome, just to note though, unless you want all your classes doing this, you'll probably want something in your other class configs to rebind your movement keys, or else you'll be reloading your revolver between every shot. I have another cfg file that rebinds everything that I exec at the beginning of each class cfg.
Scripts are a bad thing to rely on if you want to become any better at the game. Things like crouch-jump, rocket jumping, reloading after shots should all become natural reflexes that you develop over time, not automated systems that you take for granted.
Also, saying you got a script for rocket jumping doesn't exactly impress anyone
Yeah, I built up my reflexes without scripts, so much so that my disguise kit and build scripts are based on the normal "Press 4 then 1" or "Press 4 then 3" reflexes. It took a while to adjust when I changed things.
It's like I said before, the Soldier is TF2's Mario. He tends to get beaten by anyone who's in their element, but he also tends to beat anyone who isn't at their own best range.
Not really, the soldier can beat any class, 1v1 or otherwise, it's just most soldiers can't predict for crap.
Doesn't having a +reload currently active while you're waiting to spawn mean that you can't spawn?
I tried it out just after I put it in, and went on one of the PA servers and spawned as a soldier just fine, tested it out and it reloaded after every shot, and switched to another class just fine and he didn't reload.

Just dont expect anyone go to, "Wow great rocketjump, bro"
I find it akin to the guy who takes off his shirt in a friendly basketball game, that isnt shirts v skins
Noones gonna stop you.
You may get some dirty looks.
Noone will like you for it.

old buddy, old pal, how could you
lol context? I thought we were talking about close combat and the guy had said that most classes can hold their own 1v1. It was a misunderstanding.
Also, accusations of passive aggressive coming from you are hilariously ironic.
Yeah, well, I don't get to program as much as I'd like to at work so I get my kicks other ways.
edit: nvm think I got it
Yeah, you can make it so it reloads whenever you move or after you shoot or something if you like. I try to avoid scripts like that though.

Oh, so just putting +reload into the soldier config worked? I have to say I'm surprised that works. Learn something new everyday.

It's the only way I can play using only my penis.
