Around Christmas time, my girlfriend ordered me an awesome present; the Gentle Giant Han Solo animated maquette. This item costs around 60-80$, and she got it from Entertainment Earth. When Christmas loomed near, she started to worry, as the package never showed up. After she told me about the problem, I told her to do the obvious thing and check the tracking. We found out that the postal service delivered the package, but we never got it. The mail couriers have this problem where they don't ring your doorbell or let you know in any way that you have a package, and just leave it at your front door. I live 5 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.
We contacted EE, and they literally said "We shipped it, good luck!", and that was all. We contacted the post office, and after getting the run around for about 2 weeks, they finally told us they were going to request a refund and repay us the money. I don't know if they meant request the money from Entertainment Earth, or the higher ups at USPS. Needless to say, we never got any money and we just kept waiting till we eventually forgot about it.
That brings me to tonight, I was talking to my mom and she asked if we ever got refunded for it. I had forgotten about it till now, but now that I'm thinking about it I'm kind of pissed off that we lost 70$ and some fuck is enjoying my Christmas present. I know that it's been a while, probably too long, but is there anything I can do or am I fucked? Anyone work/have experience with the post office that can help me out?

If you have a tracking number for your item and would like assistance, please contact our Track and Confirm customer service at 1-800-222-1811.
A claim for a lost item must be filed by the mailer. If you believe you have not received a specific item in the mail, contact the mailer of the item to track the item or to file a claim.
If you have not received any mail within a two day period or if you are not receiving mail regularly (i.e. on a specific day of the week) for two or more weeks in a row, please contact our general customer service at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).
From the USPS.gov website. Personally I'd just call them again.
Generally when something shows as delivered and you don't have it now, it's good as gone and there's nothing you can do even if it had insurance on it, unless your Post Office is exceptional in that they give a darn.
I work for their customer service, and when we report these things the person's Post Office is almost always like "welp, we can't do anything about it"

yeah that's a possibility, but I live in a duplex that is sideways if that makes any sense, so my door isn't visible from the street. Even so, isn't it wrong for the mailman to just leave packages? I've had times where I was home and heard the mailman set my package down and leave without knocking or anything.
If it was stolen, I feel like I should be reimbursed anyways because it's pretty irresponsible to just leave packages in places like Pittsburgh. I once had a Gameboy Micro sit at my front door for 6 hours in the snow, I was pretty pissed to say the least. I've complained and asked the mailman directly to not just leave packages, but it still happens.

Good luck getting your refund, but in the future, always insist on delivery confirmation. If you have it, even if you're not home when they try to drop something off, they'll hold your package for you at their local depot instead of just leaving it there.
I hope you get your money back.
An insurance claim for a lost item must be filed by the sender. I don't know what your Post Office did in this case, but if you want to see if anything else can be done call or go in person.
A package can be left at an address if the item does not require a signature and "can be left in a secure location." The latter is entirely subjective since the carrier decides if a spot is secure or not.
