The other thread is two months old and the OP sucked, so I made my own. I also don't have a witty tag line for this one.
Inglourious Basterds is a new film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Like his other films, this is going to be about two different, but meeting plot lines. One follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers led by a First Lieutenant Aldo Raine whose mission is to take down groups of Nazis in Nazi occupied France in targeted acts of retribution. The other is about Shosanna Dreyfus, who witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa. Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. While this is a war film, QT has said it will be a "spaghetti-western but with World War II iconography", whatever the hell that actually means. The title and premise is inspired by Italian director Enzo Castellari's 1978 movie
Inglorious Bastards. QT is really,
really excited about making this movie. He's been writing it for over ten years and viewed the script as his ultimate masterpiece in the making.
So, who do we have playing the Inglourious Basterds? Well...quite a cast actually.
Brad Pitt as 1st Lt. Aldo Raine aka "Aldo the Apache"
Eli Roth as S/Sgt. Donny Donowitz
B. J. Novak as Pfc. Smithson Utivich aka "The Little One"
Til Schweiger as Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz
Omar Doom as Pfc. Ulmer
Samm Levine as Pfc. Gerold Hirschberg
Michael Bacall as Zimmerman
Paul Rust as Andy Kagan
Gedeon Burkhard as Cpl. Wilhelm Wicki
Also in it are...
Michael Fassbender as Lt. Archie Hicox
Mike Myers as Gen. Ed Fenech
Rod Taylor as Winston Churchill
Mélanie Laurent as Shosanna Dreyfus
Cloris Leachman as Mrs. Himmelstein
Christoph Waltz as Standartenführer Hans Landa aka "The Jew Hunter"
Daniel Brühl as Frederick Zoller
August Diehl as Sturmbannführer Deiter Hellstrom
Samuel L. Jackson as The Raconteur
Martin Wuttke as Adolf Hitler
So, anyone else think this is going to be awesome? Because I think this is going to be awesome.
Posts
but I don't care
I want to see a whole lot of Nazis get fucked up
Anyways, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were good, but damn that was fifteen years ago.
Plus it has Eli Roth in it.
the poster is pretty owny
I hated Kill Bill but I like the majority of his other movies.
but he makes badass movies
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
The Chronic-WHAT
that was the one i liked.
I haven't seen Planet Terror yet cause I want to watch the cinema Grind House cut
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
old theatre, late at night, surrounded by people who knew exactly what we were getting into
Planet Terror was absolutely hysterical just because the audience knew when Rodriguez was being ridiculous to be funny
Same thing as The Road Warrior being a western with post-apocalyptic iconography
Then I watched the first one and the second one together and I just thought it was dumb. I liked Death Proof as a lot of other people have previously said.
I think as an homage to a certain style of film he did an impeccable job, and although I also loved Planet Terror for the crazy gorefest it was, Tarantino's contribution to Grindhouse was I think a better tribute to the genre and more well-composed in general.
To be fair to all the naysayers, the old road movies it nods at (mostly) aren't exactly regular fare. Obviously Vanishing Point is the big one, since it's the one that he name-drops in the movie. But Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, or Duel or even Two-Lane Blacktop (my personal favourite) - heck, even The Wild One, to some degree - all have a certain weiiird, lone wolf, western vibe. None of them are what you'd call great movies in the sense of Oscar-worthy material. But I love the mood of the action in those movies, and I think Death Proof does an excellent job of recapturing it. (Also I love it for putting Kurt Russell's Big Trouble in Little China shirt on the wall of the bar.)
That said, watching Nazis get the fuckshit kicked out of them makes me happy whether or not it's stylish. I suspect Inglourious Basterds will be right up my alley.
Edit: And then I wrote a small essay about a car chase flick
"Sandra has a good solid anti-murderer vibe. My skin felt very secure and sufficiently attached to my body when I met her. Also my organs." HAIL SATAN
also, while you are technically correct, Sali, watching girls talk is still boring as allfuck
This was a good post, and I agree with it.
Also, Two-Lane Blacktop is fucking badass, and anyone who disagrees can go lick a live wire.
Mysst, you are fueling my suspicion that female voices resonate at just the wrong pitch to be processed by the male brain 50% of the time.
Apparently the title is a deliberately misspelled wink to this movie, Inglorious Bastards.

ohoho
Not so much a wink and running up and hugging it even though it has no idea who you are and proclaiming loudly that it is your best friend in the whole wide world
We always lose.
This has potential. Brad Pitt's accent is really weird. I need to see more trailers before I decide when and how I will see this movie.
