DNF: Pipe Bombs are still pretty awesome

A very reliable source with inside knowledge of Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms today told Shacknews that the company has been shut down.
The closure came about as a result of funding issues, our source explained, with the shut down said to affect both 3D Realms and the recently resurrected Apogee name.

Phone calls and e-mails to various 3D Realms veterans have thus far gone unanswered, with publishing partner Take-Two likewise unavailable for comment.

3D Realms was founded in 1987 by Scott Miller and George Broussard. The company had infamously been working on Duke Nukem Forever over the past 13 years.

God I hope not...

This is the best course of action, maybe then the community could make Duke what he should be.

DNF stands for both Duke Nukem Forever and "did not finish" for those that don't get it.

It's really only amazing that they held on this long. I'm not surprised that their creditors came knocking and that they had to liquidate the company (I imagine).

I do hope we get to see the old DNF protos, though. What a bit of history that'd be.

Also this means that Slash has to frame his preorder slip.

    Paging slash000 to this thread

That out of the way, I'm sort of glad to see some closure on this sad story. Now I can remember Duke Nukem for what he was, rather than the horror that he was becoming.

    Shine on, Duke. Shine on.

Just out of curiosity, has slash ever contacted anyone at gamestop to make sure his pre-order is still valid?

i mean, when i worked there DNF wasn't in the system, and typically reserved games that never get picked up or canceled games that never have the deposit reclaimed i think eventually have their value folded back into the company coffers.

Which, if he never got his money back, i'd claim bullshit. hah

i'm sure they have something written legalizing the absorption of his money, but it'd be fun as hell to read a news story about him trying to get back his money.

I might be wrong, and I wouldn't bet my cock on it, but this feels like the start of a marketing campaign.
