What is Red Orchestra?
Red Orchestra is a "realistic WW2 first-person shooter". It was originally a UT2K3 mod created for the Make Something Unreal contest. The guys behind the mod
won the contest, and they used their winnings and licensed game engine to recreate the mod as a standalone release, which is available now on Steam as Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.
Yet another WW2 FPS, you say? Not so! RO is about the oft-neglected
Eastern Front. Germans or Russians, no Americans to be seen.
It's also quite unlike Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and other WW2 FPS games in that it tends far more toward realism. There's no health packs, one bullet is usually enough to kill, and falling from any significant distance will usually result in death (or at least "my legs is broke" syndrome). One more thing: no crosshairs. Use iron sights, or spray and pray from the hip.
Here's some media to get your attention:
a trailersome weird french videosome dude telling you how to play the game with a weird accent
good servers we know of
63.211.111.43:7757 -- 32 players, 24/7 Danzig (a great map). no bots, and tons of good and very polite players here
63.211.105.109:7757 -- 20 players, Infantry and Combined Arms map rotation. has bots but still a decent server.

I never got to play Red Orchestra. Many other games demanded my attention. But this weekend I guarantee I will give it a thorough analysis.

That said, I look forward to looking down the sights and seeing K's and everyone else's dirty Russian/German faces right in the middle of my crosshairs.
It's the RO way!
Edit: And yeah, everyone should try to preload it too, if you have the time and bandwidth. It's totally worth it, and you'll want to jump in as soon as you can. One thing I hate the most about steam (which is really my fault) is that I'll get ready to play a game only to realize I uninstalled it for some inane reason.
It's a really fun game that I load up every now and again even when the PA guys aren't playing. Plus, when you get all of us together, it becomes super-fantastic fun.
preload this shit!
If it weren't finals next week I'd totally download it.
Hey, I almost failed chemistry when it was first released last year! I'm walking a thin line again this year.
Sack up, soldier! You might as well preload it to give it a chance. Can't beat trying it while it's free, even if it's only for an hour or two.
I call Commander so I can artillery your asses
But you know, I always end up mistaking my teammates for enemies and killing them.
That's half the fun!

Don't think we don't know what you do.
:P
I just tested the game, and it runs well, but I don't remember anything about it. All the keys and everything, and map objectives. I do remember I like the smaller close combat maps as opposed to the wide open maps, though.

I know a few people who play this, and I want to try it out. Oh well

I WANT THIS GAME! :x
But it won't work on my computer .
that still goes over steam.. so.. why?
I see them all the time in bestbuy/futureshop though
I will sprinkle some protips in this thread now.
Protip #1: Shoot the Germans. Doesn't matter what team you're on.
If your tastes demand more arcade-ish-ness, you're welcome to join the CiA/CoR server on weeknights EST time, where we frequently enjoy organized bayonet wars and our resident computer science major treats us to such abominations of game-code as this:

That said, more PA RO is always good.
Well, not really, but apparently fate doesn't want me to have a CC.
