I wonder if they're going to have the Berlin and Paris groups battle each other. Right before inevitably making friends and teaming up to fight the actual endboss.
That picture looks like it could have been faked. Not saying it is fake, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
On another topic, the PS2 version of this game is the one to get, right? It has both language tracks, and the Wii version doesn't seem to have anything to really compensate.

I have no trouble believing the game is coming. I remember reading a Famitsu "Most Wanted Sequel" poll a few years back and Sakura Taisen was top of the list.
It's just that picture looks so fake. Or at least quickly-made. But hey, I'm willing to be wrong.

The thing that's making me lean away from considering it a fanmade piece is that the girl looks a lot more Fujishima-accurate than most of the other fanmade ST6 pics I've seen. Granted, there are plenty of Japanese fanartists good enough to put something like that together, but I still like that design.
There was that pair of Sakura Taisen Online releases for Dreamcast. Never played them, though. I think they were mostly just multiplayer minigames, IIRC.
I finished up the Sakura Taisen 1&2 yesterday. It'll be awhile before I get up to playing 5, but the first two games have stood up pretty well to the test of time, and probably would have been better if I weren't playing them off a UMD. The whole steampunk mecha alternate history Taisho era Tokyo thing just works really well, just about all the characters are likable and the girl game elements really are a side attraction. On the other hand, the combat is some of the most tedious bullshit I've ever gotten though. The battles are all absurdly easy, they just take fucking forever.
I started up ST3 right after getting through 1&2, and while I don't think Paris has the charm of Teitou and the girls are kind of meh (so far), I'm impressed with the improvements made to the gameplay. Episode 1 simply played much better, and it was very rare for me to go someplace only to discover that there was nothing going on. And the battle sequences actually feel kind of fun now.
Honestly, I don't get why this franchise was abandoned, even if ST5 didn't sell as well as Sega might have hoped. Well, there IS the new female oriented Sakura Taisen Kanade series, and I'd seriously considered actually buying a game based on it if the romance elements were as low key as they are in the main games.

I kind of left this thread in the cold, didn't I? Let me offer reparations.
Some time ago, an interesting subject at RPGFan was brought to my attention.
Sakura Wars 1 received an official release, in Russia, on the PC.
That on its own its pretty awesome.
Now it gets interesting.
Thanks to the kind soul who first brought this to my attention, it's now being fan-translated.
Using the Russian version as a foundation, and the original Japanese script for the translation.
Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be helping to test it out.
Mostly because, if I'm remembering correctly, Sakura Wars 2 also got a PC version--which I do believe is, overall, the best game of the series. And maybe this could happen to it too! Within my lifetime! Hyped!

For a localization? not so much.
And are Wiis region-locked?
But hey, there should be an announcement soon in any case.
