Playin' a little more Rimworld this evening because surprisingly it has become an acceptable couple's activity and I'm not one to ask questions when things are going my way

And we notice that our pal @HerrCron 's mood is perilously low

So I check in on his mood statuses to see what could be negatively affecting him

It means that it’s really tough to ‘make it’ in nyc. So if you can succeed there you’re awesome and could succeed anywhere else, too

Exactly, so why don't I just go succeed anywhere else

Ladyfish derives most of her enjoyment of Rimworld from a) the social aspects and b) getting frustrated at her digital avatar

We had to stop playing because for complicated reasons we had to kill our pet cat and that was just too heavy for her :P

Well, having spent my early teen years in one of the states bordering ny, I can tell you many people are drawn there by their ambition and pride- to make it on the biggest stage and such. Especially people into theater or the arts

17 years ago today I locked the doors to the Blockbuster I managed, finished the closing duties, carefully removed the security tape on a retail Xbox, hooked it up to the DirecTV kiosk in the store and played Halo for 4 hours with a friend of mine.

I’m not saying that nyc should be something people aspire to- just that it (or la or London or whatever) is for many people. In addition to the plethora of culture, restaurants, bars etc many people dream of being rich and famous or competing at the highest level which is something offered to you by megalopolises

Remember, New York is primarily made up of people whose ancestors got off the boat, took a look around and said, “eh, good enough.”

But what about all those people who showed up, said “this place sucks, let’s go further west” and ended up populating settler-colonializing the rest of America
