Title says it all. Any and all recommendations are welcome. I'm coming from Final Cut Pro - decided to go with a PC for my next workhorse. I don't do crazy fancy chroma stuff or CGI.
I recommend Adobe Premier, i've been using it for years and find it pretty easy to use and flexible. Plus its nativly connected to photoshop and aftereffects which is a plus.
The biggest downside to Premier is it costs an arm and a leg, while Vegas, depending which version you buy, costs anywhere from a couple fingers to an arm and a leg.
The biggest advantage to Vegas is the codec support it has, and I am pretty sure you can buy and plugin additional codecs from Sony (and maybe even third parties).
Premier comes with fewer codecs out of the box and will put up a fight with even simple things like VOB files.
However, it's a lot easier to do effects and editing, I find, with Premier. It feels much faster.
My stance on it is:
Vegas for transcoding/splicing/slicing
Premier for pretty/shiny/happy
Premiere Pro is pretty much Final Cut Pro, but for pc's.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
I personally like Premier, but I'm an Adobe fan boy.
However for Special-FX there is nothing that beats After Effects.
