So my Software Maintenance course just wrapped up for the semester and I find out that the bookstore isn't buying the book back. I don't want it anymore and don't really know what my best option is. I have an eBay account, but specialized text doesn't really seem like a good fit for an eBay auction.
Can anybody with an Amazon account sell stuff through them (that's how I bought the book in the first place)? Or is there some other site that I might be able to pass it along to the next poor soul stuck in S/W Maint?
Anybody with an Amazon account can sell stuff. You might need to go through a little set-up to turn your account into a seller account, but it's free and easy.
Another good alternative is Half.com, which is run by eBay but functions more like Amazon Marketplace. Generally speaking you can get more money for your item on Amazon, but since they charge more fees it usually comes out about the same.
Also worth noting is that you shouldn't really expect to get any buyers until closer to the fall, when most people start thinking about buying their textbooks.
Not trying to hijack but I am in the same boat as OP. My question is, How do I determine the correct shipping cost of an item?

This is one reason that Amazon is nice; everyone gets the same shipping price. It kind of evens out if you do it enough time, with some books being cheaper than others to ship.
I like Amazon because so many damn people see it. I usually sell a book in less than 36 hours.
The only problem with amazon/half is a lot of books are listed as for sale for < $1.00, usually by larger resellers as opposed to people, which is really annoying. I have a book that we were required to buy (show proof of purchase, i know it was dumb) and I only opened it once. 100$. There are about 30 listings selling it for 1 cent.
I've only sold a couple books from amazon at this point (I'm not really banking on any of them selling until the fall), but I've sold probably close to 400$ worth of other stuff, and I've been at it for just about 2 months now.

Why didn't you buy one of the ones on amazon? Or at least tell the story of what the hell reason someone made you do that.

I bought mine on amazon for 75$ when I took the class (list price is 100$), that was the low price at the time.

I've had classes that requires some on-line code that comes with a new book, or you can buy just the code for nearly the price of a new book!

Go to USPS.com. There's a shipping cost calculator.
