I should probably feel terrible about that or something, but I dunno, I get really, really woozy at the sight of blood being sucked out of my body.
Like, I'm fine with needles and injections for immunisations etc, but the moment a needle is inserted into me and it starts drawing blood, my body just does this involuntary "holy fuck oh no you don't, time to pass out fucker" thing that I can't seem to control... I can usually only just get through a blood test without passing out... I get really light-headed. 'Tis weird.

Drawing blood kind of freaked me out too, but you get over it. I just don't look at the bag, or the needle. And if they rest the tube on my arm I'm like "TAKE IT OFF IT'S WARM AND GROSS!".
One time it all went smoothly til they took the needle out. Then all the blood seemed to rush out of my head and I felt like I was going to faint. They tilted my chair back and put a wet towel on my head and fanned me off for five minutes to keep me cool.
It's always an adventure!
Also holy crap they are reading the Count of Monte Cristo on Radio National, are they seriously going to read the whole thing? That will take like, a year.
Yes I'm an old man and I listen to Radio National.

I have told a story several times on this forum about my brother giving blood that routinely causes vomiting
The only reasoning behind it is that diseases spread way more through anal sex than vaginal sex, right? So people who have hetero anal should probably be banned from it too.

Question 24: Have you had olol butt secks in the past 12 months? Yes[ ] No[ ]
How can they possibly uphold something like that though?
In the linked pdf they justify it by saying that the current statistics say that the incidence of HIV/AIDS is higher for homosexual males than for the rest of the population so taking a risk minimisation approach they don't allow homosexual males to donate if they have had sex in the last 12 months.
Theoretically if the infection rates for homosexual males equalise with the rest of the community they will remove the restriction.
On a similar note, if you are a female who has had sex with a bisexual male they won't let you donate and they also won't let you donate if you are a sex worker or have had sex with a sex worker.
so if you're a dude and you've had sex with a dude in the last 12 months you can't give blood
because you might have AIDS
but if you had sex with a dude more than a year ago you can give blood
because... if you did have AIDS it would... go away? O_o
The test they use on the blood has a detection window where it may give a false negative if someone was recently infected but becomes more accurate the more time has passed after infection.
one time when i was giving a blood sample the nurses told me that young adult males such as myself are the ones who pass out most or get the most upset by needles and drawing blood
and i got this needle in my right arm and im just like 'haha is that right wow hey whats that up in the left corner of your ceiling is there a very faint stain there dont worry im on the case and i wont let it out of my sight'

tallweirdo talks about himself in the third person
So, is it just some weird automatic response that makes some people pass out at the sight of blood, or is it them actually getting consciously freaked out for some reason?

Homosexual males are only allowed to donate if they haven't had male to male sex in the last 12 months.

Anyone who lived in the UK for more than 6 months between 1980 and 1996 also gets a lifetime ban due to mad cow disease.

because there's a 12 month "window" between when a person could be a danger of passing it on, and when it can be properly tested
